We don’t need anymore people testing bikes or knee-braces. We need someone, or a group - to travel about and give honest, comprehensive, objective evaluations of motocross tracks, parks and facilities. Perhaps on a scale from 0-100 ? Featuring everything from online presence and timely information, to the track(s) themselves, amenities and, area information, regarding lodging, dining, etc. All over America. Every state that has a track. You want to make a name for yourself in motocross? You want a mission ? Go do this.

Ok, we can get Vital to pay all my expenses and I will gladly tour the US, first, and then head to Europe. Evaluations by an old multi year racer. I will be willing to fly coach to save the members some money but only 4 star rated hotels. haha

I see a road trip opportunity for a couple of experienced (i.e. old) grizzled (raced on 2-stroke, mud, dust, hard pack) tech savvy (Can order pizza at the track without needing a dime for the pay phone) moto guys to load up the mini van and write articles for the magazines, create podcasts for the internetz plus witty posts for the “gram”.

Good idea, Rupe!!

Also need straight up grass roots level races. You know, the kind with ZERO draw for LL hopefuls. Strictly for fun.
Low budget- so no starting gate. Hand-on-helmet or other methods, instead. Etc.

This person ( or persons) should (ideally) bring impartiality and an open mind to every track/facility they visit/review. Obviously, since the track(s) are by far the most important aspect of the process, it would be absolutely necessary for the reviewer to actually ride each and every track, as to provide the substance for a comprehensive evaluation -that would involve the circuits ridden, being given far more consideration, than any other aspects of the overall evaluation. (In other words, perhaps 50% of the evaluation points would be towards the track itself, as that’s why we came here, to begin with....). *Curious as to your thoughts into establishing a well thought out set of parameters to accomplish this.....(?)

Like the idea but how many good tracks would get passed because they arent known? If you ain't from N Ga, you probably dont know about the track in shannon. No amenities, no prep, always hard packed and dusty. But the layout is awesome.

Itd just end up being tracks with an online presence, and those are gonna be the typical prepped track with a bathroom, food, bike washes, and so on.

A couple "types" of riders input would be good too.

Baja Acres isn't a beginners track but it's one of the best tracks out there. It should be a crew of guys.

We'll start working on the mid east.

I really hate the idea of dipping my toe into stupid, but isn't this basically what you find on Rider Planet?

What the OP suggests is a great idea and there’s been a few over the years and I’ve found them very helpful when going to another state. For Canadians coming south in the winter would be useful. FB and Instagram have somewhat superseded the usefulness IMHO.

I had a nerd flare up a couple years ago and in about 2 min came up with a track ranking system.

MX track ranking system (10 items, 5 points max each) this example = 4.15

4.5 Fun/thrill factor (speed & jumps)
4 Challenge/difficulty/roughness
5 Quality of dirt
5 Quality of prep including water thru day
3.5 Facilities main (bathrooms/showers/water/speakers/announcing/RV hook-ups/parking)
3.5 Facilities bonus (bike wash/music/shade/food&drinks/parts store)
3.5 Bang for buck practice/racing (efficiency)
3.5 Near restaurants, grocery, entertainment
4.5 Hospitality
4.5 Safety

To you two that suggested RiderPlanet, I had to go look at it again, hadn’t peered for awhile, and, truthfully, there’s a hell of a lot of great information there. And, to be honest, yeah, something like that, but, specifically designed to the motocross racers and PP’rs ( Professional Practicers), with actual RIDER TRACK REVIEWS (fairly recent) and assigned a grade, based on a very structured set of standards, that would ultimately, enable the consumer to gather all the necessary data -before traveling to the particular circuit/facility. And yes, YELP reviews does come to mind, yet -with a specific set of criteria, predetermined to assign some sort of legitimate establishing baseline (?)

I like the way you’re thinking and true, Instagram, FB etc do offer valuable insight.... I like most of your judging criteria, although I’d say we would have to steer clear of any “Safety” declarations. Can of broken worms there me thinks

There should be separate score totalsmfor.each section.

If a facility is next to a.Moe's, a holiday Inn, a walmart, have 5g coverage and a car wash it shouldn't result in a higher average score that would off set a sub par track.

In Ohio and if there is a place to ride, regardless of the amenities or the track condition it should get a star cause it's open. We don't have many if at all places to ride as it is. Don't bash on any of them cause it won't be long before we won't have any places left.

This would be awesome. Bring more exposure to local tracks for the riders. Its actually suprising how many riders are unaware of tracks that aren't far away from them.

There’s bashing and there’s constructive criticism.

Bashing is complaining about things the track doesn’t have control of like dusty on a sunny hot summer day or a piece of equipment breaking.

But if they leave a kicker on the face of a jump they should take some heat for that. Especially after a crash or rider letting them know.

Some of the best tracks in Ohio take suggestions and improve. Briarcliff comes to mind - and they have their first regional this year.

Some things you can hold against the track and others you really can’t - I’ll take good dirt over a bike wash and I’ll take a bike wash over close restaurants.
