In the hopes of having a new race winner or two this year

I thought it might be fun to look back on the most unexpected single race winner in supercross.

My vote is Daryl Hurley in the mud in 2004. RACE STARTS at 3 minutes

The fact that JB won at Daytoner was super unexpected.

Ramsey at Pontiac 02 (?). Quite the wild race if I remember correctly. RC looped out early on the dragon's back, and gets up at the back of the pack. He's charging hard for the remaining 16-18 laps making everyone else look like Vital posters. Meanwhile up front, there were multiple lead changes with Ramsey snagging it in the last lap or 2 and RC knocking on his back door at the checkers.

Bunch of one-time stuff in 09, Brayton won his only 450 moto at Steel City that year, where Tommy Hanh won the overall. As well as the previously mentioned Josh Grant surprise A1 win and Matt Georke southwick win.

I remember Josh Hill' win being unexpected, wasnt he even a 250 rider just riding a 450 round when he won?

It was Dungey who got second that night that was a 250 rider.

John Dowd April 1998 Charlotte SX. He was a west coast 125 rider at the time. I believe he was around 33 years old. I'd say that qualifies as unexpected.

Marty Moates has to be at the #1 spot. Many just don't know about that race, what it meant in the moto world and the total surprise that he won both motos.

I kind of forgot about Marty. I even remember watching that race on Wide World of Sports. But I'm kind of torn between Marty and Ricky Ryan. If memory serves me correctly, didn't Ryan have a broken lower leg and some kind of brace that was fitted through his boot. Who would have ever expected a win from him in that condition, at Daytona no less. But yea, Moates is right in there with Ryan. Let's just call it a tie.

Yes, Tommy Hahn won the final 450MX round at Steel City in 2009 on the Canidae/Motosport Kawasaki.

Justin Brayton got his one and only 450MX moto win that day also on the MDK KTM.

The '97 Factory Yamaha YZM400F at Vegas. I believe that was a one(and only) time SX Winner in the only round they entered that bike.
