Has a military veteran ever qualified for a pro national or SX?

This question came up in the Vet MX Facebook group that I am part of - I would think if we go far enough back into the history of the sport there had to be someone at least in our pioneer days?

DV934 served briefly for France, I believe. In America, “Veteran” status was awarded to those with, at least, 180 days of consecutive active-duty ( unless things have changed).

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a few privateers with Reserve or National Guard status at one point. Probably back a few decades, seems like it’d be a little less likely today.

I’d think that if we go back to the ‘70’s it would be very likely, especially a European rider. As I recall, many European countries required it. I can’t recall exactly, but weren’t some of the CZ riders actually serving via motocross? My memory is fuzzy, but I seem to recall reading something like that.

No only that but to pull top 40 to get into a national and do it at 37 years old is a double. A veteran vet mx racer making the nationals.

My kid went to Mike's camp twice, around 2007 2008, he had a blast, Mike and family were very generous and good people. Missing from this is his involvement with arena cross for quite some time as well. He is pretty much motoSmile

I think Switzerland has mandatory miltary service for males, so maybe Tonus? Gotta think there's some exception to "mandatory" service though...
