I have one more point to make just because this thread pisses me off! Most pro athletes retire when they start to decline mentally, physically, financially, talent, whatever the case may be. Not Chad Reed. This mthr fr kicks retirements ass! He stays in the game because of the love of the sport, to support his family, and he legitimately cares about his fans! He doesn’t make it only about him. He’s an icon and a role model! Not many men/women out there like this. I don’t see how anyone could give two fucks what he does in his personal life or how he gets to the track? Just knowing he’s on the track still grinding with all the young talent makes a statement! Dude is fucking savage!!!

I love to ride dirt bikes. It's an obsession of mine and most of us are the same. I don't think Reed loves riding dirt bikes just to ride anymore. It seems like his wife is pushing him to do it but he's over it and would rather race cars. I can't remember the podcast or interview with him from the past where he indicated that he didn't really enjoy riding....but it's out there.

I am, of course, a Reed fan. I just don't like when the riders don't love riding as much as i do. How can you not??

Imo. He should have stayed on the zook instead of switching. He has enough contacts to get a rmz. Race prepped or borrow one from jgr. And knew alot about the rmz.

He’s done, not because he can’t put a bike on the podium but because he’s not going to be happy with the results. The results would be the ability to win. If he could make millions more and finish top 3 possibly he’d stay but year after years of winning or being a contender the money and bike just aren’t there. For the first time ever.. I think chad retires at A-1 and rides that Honda around for a few parade laps .
Without the money and a winning bike he said it himself .. there’s no reason to be out there anymore. It’s time.. he rode that horse to death. Good for him!
He’s a legend , a master of the sport.
Time for something new’ have fun in those cars and sharing your insight with the industry you help build.

You’re obviously a Reed fanboy...and that’s ok, somebody’s got to be. I think what people expect is a bit more humility from Chad. I’m all for saying what you mean & meaning what you say...but Chad comes off like a pure whiner sometimes. Yeah, he’s a racer...so why not simply spare all the social media hype bullshit, and go racing 4-wheels full time? He seems to like the change. And at least he can win at that. He’s done winning at SX, and that’s a fact.

perhaps, then again these top pros can ride anything as long as they are comfortable on them, he states his reasons for buying the Honda on the RacerX interview, as long as he is happy riding I dont care what he rides. He did bloody well at MEC considering the huge lack of seat time Smile

The rmz would have eliminated the bike set up excuses.

What is somewhat funny is i think a lot of the industry wrote him off a long time ago, because it is a general consensus that the riders are done past 27 years old. In the end he proved them they were totally wrong and they are still betting against him, while we all know "never bet against Reed", because they can't admit they were wrong in the first place. He would do good to any team, even as an official test and fill in rider, but still, he is now on a private bike (again). I really think some team managers must be happy to feel they have (some) power while the CEO is not watching (because the CEO are there to make money, not to spend it). I know it may be a strong statement but there must be some truth as well. With his level, results, and autograph line, to be "private" is somewhat "scandalous".

For those that weren’t at MEC. Yes, Reed looked very uncomfortable on the Honda as he should have but no matter of what his time or place was there was constantly at crowd of fans around his truck. Dude got fans and I suspect even some of the naysayers in here were in that crowd at some point in the last decade. Carry on...

I still think it’s amazing that Justin Brayton can snag a ride on Team Honda & win an Aussie SX at 35 (I think...) but Chad, a multi-time freaking champion can’t get a ride on a good enough bike to win at almost the same age bracket. I’m not a Reed hater. I totally respect what he’s done, but Brayton is super humble & is well liked in the industry...but Chad has made a career of burning bridges & dissing past sponsors. You’d think he’d learn, but apparently not. He pretty much has to roll on his on dime at this point. Pretty sad, if you ask me.
Also, one of those names has a win in the last couple of years.

What excuses?

from RacerX interview....

I was going to ask about a bike issue that last practice. I thought maybe you had one, or no?

No, not that I remember. No, I didn’t. Really the biggest issue all day was I didn’t get a good lap in. I was on a decent lap when unfortunately, Deano [Dean Wilson] crashed, so then that kind of put me in the Last Chance. I just took too long. Even when I’m at my best, I take too long to get up to speed. I actually tried to take it a little easier this weekend, if I’m honest. You have to understand where you’re at and just chip away, chip away, and feel it out. My first and second starts were really good. My third one was terrible. I don't know why. I just got a lot of traction and wheelied. Roost hurt way too much.

This, also Brayton was already linked to HRC via MCR i.e. they already had a relationship with each other.

So Chad was playing it smart in MEC and he just ran out of time to put a good qualy lap in. I respect that. I also respect that he's still out there. His pace is nothing to sneeze at and as long as he's ok with it I'll definitely watch him and marvel. It bugged me when he messed with the title battle a few years ago but I've gotten over it... just Chad being Chad and that's why he's the iron-man he is.

Respect the effort for sure.... but man anyone that can say there is a win in this guy needs to take a deep breath of reality. He made top 10 from a field that were missing some big time players. Yeah he has made a lot and won some titles in his prime. But most of the kids filling the stands don’t remember that time. They just see a mid pack rider that gets in the way.. And by the way, use to go on a rant every time someone wouldn’t jump off the track when he was holding Stewart up.

But yeah. Here is to hopefully 10more years of the 22

Agree. Possibly, but not likely at running the all rounds. Maybe seeing how he feels after full training and results at the overseas races. I’m with you though, unless with some help, he very well may call it quits at A1.
