Running a track is one of the most difficult, thankless and low profit businesses around. Everyone needs to pay! Pro riders in particular who make a living because weekend warriors purchase products from their employers.. Tracks are the heartbeat of the sport and should NEVER should be cheated or disrespected.

A business related expense that can be a tax write off is not free or a discount.

Say you make $30,000 in taxable income in the year. You pay a % if taxes based off that income. So for examples sake if you pay 10% in taxes you owe $3,000 in taxes.

But if you have $5,000 in business expenses that can be deducted on your taxes your taxable i come is now $25,000, so you would owe $2,500 in taxes.

And there’s hundreds of other rules that could change this scenario. Which is why professional athletes probably hire their taxes done, while the average joe takes the standard deductions.

Your math is good, that's why it's a discount. You're paying with pre-tax dollars instead of after tax. Another way to look at it would be your $5000 in business expenses actually only cost $4500 after the tax reduction.

If this is true and I were in Mitch Payton’s position and found out my rider acted in this manner, he would be called in Monday morning and fired. Period!

Garrett displayed 3 things I personally do not tolerate. Thievery, bad attitude/non-professionalism and sense of entitlement. That’s not being an immature 17 year old. Those are character traits. He would be DONE riding/working for me as I would t want anyone in my camp with those traits.

Ok, you could say it’s a discount I suppose. But in the reference of “it’s a 30% discount” is not an accurate statement either. I don’t know what the new standard deduction is with the new tax laws, but with the old one they’d have to have over $12,500 in business expenses before it kicks in and becomes a benefit. With the new tax laws I wanna say it’s over $25,000 (tax bracket depending etc.)

My point is it’s just not a discount. When tax time rolls around you can add it to your deductions and maybe get your taxes lowered... but to say it’s a “30% discount or free” is just not correct.

But hey whatever, i don’t care about other people’s taxes just trying to shed some light if you didn’t know.

Your second paragraph starts with “Garrett displayed”. You are directly attacking his character there.

The truck blowing out of the place did NOT have a green bike in the back. So... the take away here should be:

Respect other people’s property, policies and don’t force them to have to be “the asshole”.
Follow the rules!

Your first sentence is what's wrong with this thread since this kid's name got thrown out there. You're at least passively assessing guilt based on 3rd part hear-say and giving your opinion about it. Then your second paragraph just drops all pretense of it being anyone else and you go straight into what's wrong with a kid you've never met and know nothing about. So how about we all STFU with dragging anyone's name through the mud without at least a shred of real proof.

I seen there was a guy claiming to show the receipt that said the rider could ride the SX track...my guess is he was true to his word and produced it.

Agreed. The entire sport of motocross is advertised by product endorsement via pro riders. IMO track owner did the wrong thing from a business stance over the long haul. Am I more inclined to ride at Milestone cuz track owner got his money or because pro riders endorse his track and work?

Having a factory rider show up to a track in the middle of nowhere very well may drive up entries to said track on that particular day, but not in SoCal. Especially not at a SoCal track that has a track SPECIFICALLY MADE FOR PROS.

No one is above paying for a service, unless the person providing said service decides to comp it...

I am truly surprised one person, let alone multiple people, in here has the opinion that the track owner should have comped whomever this rider was.

Having grown up in Southern California, never once has any single rider dictated where I was going to ride that day, and I’d be willing to bet $100 bucks that 95% of others in the area feel the same....for some of you to speak with the owners wallet and say you’d let this guy ride for free is nothing short of nearsighted and disingenuous.

Living in Atlantic Canada and riding moto is a nightmare. Unless you have a friend with a private track your options are limited to one Wednesday a week for 3 hours...... Split up into a bunch of classes so you end up with about half hour of track time if you're lucky. And if there's any precipitation pretty much every track in the province closes.

Exactly. We have a long distance in between this location (Milestone), but at my local track we have a lot of pro's coming to train. Especially when sand GP's are coming up. We will reschedule the training sessions for pro's and Amateurs split, but the Pro's are paying to ride. Few weeks ago Prado came to ride and he paid 15 euro's (our daily fee) to ride without hesitation. Same goes for riders like Herlings, Cairoli, Coldenhoff, Anstie, Jonass, Seewer, V horebeek etc. If they don't want to pay, they get a friendly "thank you, bye and have a nice day". Way too much volunteers working on our track to get riders thinking they are above anyone.

If I was a Factory rider, Id pay twice and tell the man at the gate "The next kid to come and sign-on, please give him a free pass."
