Best chest/rib protection

After going down last week and breaking some ribs I am looking for the best protection I can get.

Broken ribs are way more painful than anything I’ve had.

After 7 days I’m feeling better but still way sore but I want to ride in a week or so so I’m loooking to get protection before them.

You need a chest protector that covers your ribs as well as chest, I have a fox raptor that does that ,its a little bulky at bottom but worth it , I think alpinestars makes one a little less bulky

I use the Leatt Pro after doing the same thing a few years ago—great protection.

I'm using the rxr, but in terms of outright protection, nothing is going to beat a bull rider's vest (what the motoxvest is based on). Greater protection is needed for a 1500lb ball of muscle that would like nothing more than to disembowel you with it's horns and then crush your chest with it's hooves.

Riding with broken ribs 2 weeks after is a really bad decision. Crashing again on them will result in displaced ribs that can puncture vital internal organs. I broke 5 in June and am not riding until 8 months to ensure they’re fully mended.

This!!! 100% back what Joko said. Terrible idea to ride with broken ribs.

I run the Alpinestars A-10 armour under my jersey and it is comfortable with offering real good protection

I wear the Alpinestars A-10 as well. Has rib and shoulder protection. Light weight, breathable. Won’t ride without it.

Leatt 5.5 HD pro, it’s a little on the warm side but has good air flow when moving.

Leatt 4.5 here. Under jersey with the 6.5 Carbon Neck brace and love the combo. It may not be "jersey only" cool, but I'm too old to get hurt! lol

There is a lot of good chest protectors out there now that are CE certified. If I remember correctly, Leatt and A-Star were the first to do CE products and the rest followed suit in part to the MXGP mandatory chest protector requirements.

I wear the A10 as well and really like it. I've used the Leatt 4.5 and prefer the ventilation and comfort of the A10.

Not the most stylish, but I think a level up for full rib protection is the TekVest. Google Tekvest or Tekrider.

So you A-10 guys good with it under the jersey (saw mxmaniac runs it that way)? Not too overwhelming under there?

I wear mine over the jersey. I don’t think I’d like it under. I know I’d need to go up a jersey size if I wanted to try.

I have ran mine either over or under. I usually run a medium jersey but got a large to compensate. I even use it in gravity enduro MTB with jersey over the top. I have no problem other than the jersey can catch a little when putting it over the top. No big deal. Mates have started running the same combo and love it also. pic is on my 1981 Maico 490 wearing the A-10

I ditched my CTI knee braces after Ping and Ryno said it was worth a shot. I can't believe how much better I felt on the vintage and modern crf450. I chose to wear my MTB Fox launch Pro knee pads that have some nice comfort and side padding with hard plastic patella cap. I won't go back to the CTI knee braces again. Each to their own but I felt like I had more comfort control and feel without them on.

Does anyone have experience with the Alpinestars A10 in combination with a Leatt GPX 5,5 neck brace? Does it fit well?

I already have a Leatt 5,5 Pro HD vest, but it's way to hot when riding in warmer weather.

I broke 5 ribs and punctured a lung, so I really want to have the best protection and think the Alpinestars A10 gives as much protection as the Leatt 5,5 Pro, but has way better ventilation?

I have read a bit of the for and against argument.. and see your valid view and theory.
As said by many... knee injuries as you mentioned above have happened truck loads of times whilst wearing the braces. From memory Pingree said he has screwed knees as well as other pros whilst wearing them. So they don't eliminate all risk I guess. I saw a guy snap and compound fracture his femur at the top of the knee brace instead of potentially blowing his knee. So there is that scenario also. I am well aware of the positives and negatives so I will roll with it and whatever happens... happens! If I blow my knee out I will be sure to get back to you hahaha
