I am not sure calling them out in public would be the best scenario. That would just start a social media fight that you may not come out the winner. If they are not all that honest (as it appears) they will make up lies and blast you and your company for not supporting them or worse.

Write off the $1,200 on your taxes as a loss and ensure all your sponsorship deals are in writing with a clause that lists this scenario and need to return the parts.

Lastly - thanks for supporting the riders - this is very cool.

I was the rider support guy at White Bros end of 06 and 07. We had a couple of situations where we found sponsored riders were selling shit that they were getting discounts on. That was the end of said sponsorship. One was a nationally know amateur who was getting a shit ton of free carbon pros and selling them too. Bad shit. Oh and l was threatened when l made the call to end that sponsorship as well. We never took legal acton though, it was just an immediate revocation of sponsorship.

Well, I know someone that tried hard for a couple years to get a team running. There were lots of sponsor promises of cash support that never came through, even after the graphics went up on the trailer so free advertising. It happens both ways I guess. He did say that after the end of it all dealing with riders was like herding cats.

As a business, you got to take the high road on this and let it go

But for future reference, send parts with a bill. If they honor their support/sponsorship arrangement (which you have in writing which you will include with the bill), the bill gets whipped off the books. If no, they are financially on the hook.

I remember reading an article in a magazine some time ago. Brian Deegans name got dropped for not paying his tuner for a piston. I think it was Rick Peterson. If he can drop a name for a couple hundred, MotoStuff should for $1200+

Hey, even HRC requested the Honda factory teams to return bikes and parts at the end of the season just to send them to the crusher. It did always happen or else I wouldn't have all those nice parts on my RC250M replica.

I support MotoStuff. Helping someone out needs to work both ways and people should act grateful not entitled, but too many 1-way scumbags out there.

They should just stop supporting all privateers! I’ve never purchased anything because a privateer has a sticker for a product on their bike!

There are too many good guys out there that need help and would be appreciative. Call these assholes out and let it be known they are not honorable OR trustworthy. People like these two are what drags our sport down and makes it hard for the good guys to get help.

I don't think social media is the place for business collections, that is a slippery slope.

Any time you are a business owner, if you take a risk that doesn't pay off, you are at risk unless you have a contract.
I would de-escalate the situation with a phone call or text etc. Find out the real story and plead your case to them. If you never get payed, chalk it up to life lessons learned and put it in the bad debts column on your tax returns.

This. And the riders in that 25th-40th range should be grateful as can be when they get support. It sucks when they don't acknowledge that fact and end up taking away potential support from someone who could use it and would benefit the sponsor while doing so.

Update on this- The NW SX pro sent all parts back new still in the packaging, so seems he was trying to extort some extra cash from us when he said we’d have to pay his mechanic to remove the parts from his bike. Really dude! Anyways, that one is done. The other fellow did finally reply after we sent a link to the previous post, but can not afford to pay for the parts as agreed. Even though he can afford to make it to the races???? Kids these days.... just kidding, there are lots of great kids out there and we aren’t going to let these two exceptions ruin it for the majority of good folks out there. And thanks for all the great feedback and suggestions. We sincerely appreciate the support and advice. MOTO ON! 👍🏁❤️

And it was not Austin Politelli. Austin is still a sponsored rider in good standing! 😁

PS, if you are industry and would like to know who the rider is to avoid a similar situation, please private message us. If he would have simply apologized, that would have been the end of it. We did get several contacts from industry who had a hunch and we were able to confirm, so we don’t see any indication this rider intends to change his ways.

Besides for Hill in the 450's there are only a few guy's from the NW that gained 250 SX points last year.

Not saying any of these guy's did anything so save the BS. Just Listing the riders I found in the Final series results.
