He hauls ass. I'm surprised his contract allows him to ride MX. If I was paying him millions for MotoGP I surely wouldn't want him near an MX track.

Impressive. High speed tracks wouldn’t be an issue for him, that’s for sure.

Didn't he start off racing MX as a kid?

It would be interesting see how hard he could push on a MX track when not under a MotoGP contract. The guys control is mind boggling, even when he crashes in GP he forgets to fall off the bike sometimes.

There are old videos of him dirtbiking, and he honestly looked like advanced beginner. This was only a year ago. His speed in self development as witnessed by the latest video confirms his elite talent on two wheels.

Bikes are a way of life in Spain. I have always wondered why not more top MX’ers emerge from Spain. That seems to be changing rapidly.

You can see a lot of motoGP instinct in his style. An absolute weapon regardless

The guy is the best moto gp has ever seen. It’s only a given he could ride a dirt bike good too.

In Spain it’s Roadracing and Trials. They are a factory for roadracing talent. They have a great feeder system and the riders are huge celebrities. They also produce the best trials riders in the universe. The exception being Dougie Lampkin, he’s British. But the trials guys are insanely great on a bike. Mind boggling even.

The USA needs a feeder system similar to Spain and Italy if they ever want a World Championship in Roadracing again.

The Spanish trials riders revolutionized the sport in the late 80s and early 90s. My oldest brother always rode trials and was a huge fan. I remember going out to a World Championship round near Toronto in 1989, just around the time guys like Jordi Tarres and Amos Bilbao were starting to dominate. I was absolutely mindblown by how those guys rode sections, hopping and bouncing the bike, and riding each section like 50 smaller sections. To this day this remains one of the coolest motorsport events I have attended live.

Most Motogp guys also ride mx. Some of them are also racing in the winters at local motocross races (like Marquez)

Since they can't really train during the week for Motogp. It's not like motocross that you load your bike and go to the track to spin some laps.
So instead of riding on there own bikes , they ride motocross alot , yes also during the Motogp season.

Rossi rides a ton of Moto and flat track too. These guys don't get to practice on a road course all week like the MX guys can so they ride in the dirt. I'd like to see some pics of that Honda, I'm sure there are some goodies on it.

Not sure what video you are talking about but it certainly wasn't a year ago. MM93 has had impressive skills and speed in the dirt for quite some time.

I bet his team has a nervous breakdown every time he says he's going off for a day of moto haha

Edit: Just saw the replies above. I'm surprised it's so common!

Actually support to motorcycle road racing, trials and enduro is focused only on one spanish area: Catalunya.

I estimate more than 95% of the spanish successful teams & riders at worldwide level coming from that area.
Out of there, support to motorcycle racing is sadly close to null here.

If you are thinking about Prado, he and his family moved to Belgium sponsored by KTM when he was only 11, so I don't know if Spain deserves any entitlement in his achievements.

But then you see a mx rider on a highway billboard then you think there's maybe a hope:

They have some pretty great off-road and extreme riders. So many people ride there. When I was in Spain in April I rode with Alejandro Medina, ex Moto GP 2 racer and current Spanish Superbike series contender. Man that guy can ride a dirtbike. The average Spanish local I was riding with would blow away most of the guys that race pro class in my regional off-road series.

It generally starts with some form of riding/racing on dirt. Casey Stoner raced at our local clubs back when he was a kid (same region as Chad Reed) and we had a few dirt tracks and flat tracks in the area.

Colin Edwards was a promising mxer before he started roadracing as well. If you follow Marc's Instagram it seems he practices more TT/flattrack than MX on a daily basis. Rossi had a couple seasons ruined be MX crashes and he has switched to more TT/flattrack practice at his ranch with his vr46 team of younger guys.

I know it's dangerous to ride whatever but it still blows my mind Honda are good with that. He isn't trailriding, he's fucking getting after it with everything he's got.

US has tried to change its road racing feeder system to be more like the European countries but I hardly watch it, as it just doesn't seem to have the depth and closeness that the various Euro series have.

I realize it's really their only option to train and stay fit, but pushing that hard will eventually end some MotoGP championship hopes like it did to Rossi a couple years ago. As with anyone going that fast on a dirtbike, it's not if but when you will take a digger and injure yourself. Hopefully it's not during the season when you are a title contender.

Marc and his brother Alex love moto, they both come to Supercross races when MotoGP is in the US. I got to spend a few minutes interviewing him at the round in Austin a few years ago through Red Bull, as soon as I said that we were only going to talk MX, he opened up. The interview is linked below and it was surprising to hear him talk about trying different bike brands when no one is around.

The CRF450R he raced SuperPrestigio with was legit, looked like it had the factory engine cases and everything.

Pull & Bear, a Spanish clothing company that has ties to MotoGP, did a line of apparel with the brothers. I made sure to grab a lot of it this week, so get it if you can find it in your size.
