Discussion: Most controversial moment in Motocross?

Edison Dye canceling the Trans AMA race because of rain. I was there that day and it was a long and miserable day before my parents came to get me.

Moosecan letting golden boy by at East Rutherford definitely ranks up there
Salty much? Even if Marvin wouldn’t have done that, Dungey would have won the title.

The Falta incident.
Let Broc Bye.
The failed '02 MXdN at Competition Park.

Also very relevant to this discussion-
It's impossible to take on a subject like this without keeping
in mind modern communication. I mean, we have a multi-pager
for a stupid Flinch-Gate. Could you imagine if a Falta incident took
place today?! Holy hell, the entire interwebz would fugging seize up!!!!

As far as straight up controversy goes, I think this one will be hard to beat.

Doug Henry winning the 97 Vegas SX wasn't controversial at the time but history has shown it to be the moment the sport changed, for better or worse.

The biggest one to me was the twat that used a laser. All the other one’s were either team tactics, politics, or dirty riding. But the laser incident was malicious which makes it the worse one of them all.

Controversial is supposed to mean a seemingly even amount of people on either side of an issue.

With that in mind, I'd say banning true works bikes back in 1986 is something that could be considered very controversial. Some of the stuff that Honda was working on at the time was bananas.

The 1998 yz400 has been gaining in controversy as the sport continues to shrink.

Lots of great ones posted, but Falta scandle for the easy win. FIM at its finest, just another day in the office for them.

The Jaroslav Falta incident is especially sad because I believe he’s passed away, so even if the FIM wanted to right a wrong they would be too late. Not that they ever would anyway....

Can you elaborate? Why did it change the sport?

Not heard Falta has passed away. Gernady Moiseev who profited from Falta's exclusion died about 18 months ago.

What was the story behind RC, how come RC got his points back and Reed didn't, what was the difference there?

RC had the testicular fortitude to stand up to the AMA and fight for justice. No disrespect to Reed, but he didn't fight the AMA on their BS (and he should have IMO).
It’s A bit different as reed still had the points lead after they took the points off him , where rc would have lost the title

First major win for a 4 stroke since the 2 stroke revolution 25-30 years earlier, now here we are 20 years later.

Bayle's rear wheel getting removed to stop him racing comes to mind.

And the parking incident with Pichon's oldman at Mount Morris (if memory serves correct)

Both involved Frenchies and was just plain crazy.

That World Cup supercross they had in 1985 where Ward, O’Mara, et al were purposely slowing down in the heats do they could get a front row gate pick. Rick Johnson called them on their bs.

AMA/Jam Sports and Feld (Clear Channel) FIM. If this was going on in the social media era it would have been pretty chaotic.
