Not sure if this has been posted. I'm not intending to bash KTM but this is starting to make me nervous.

I'm currently riding/racing a 2016 350sxf in 450B and vet 30. I'm no pro but I'm not just rolling around out there either.

What's the best way to inspect the frame for warning signs or stress fractures? I've seen a post on here before but if I remember correctly he had pulled the bike all the way down to the frame (couldn't find post) can you see the typical weak points without taking it down that far?

That's a massive impact and you have to imagine his bike has had that hit a lot that day and a few times similar before....

BUT... look for paint cracks etc... should be doing it anyways. I think you'd be able to see most of it without dismantling the bike, headstays, foot pegs etc... the tank comes away super quick on a ktm too.

Pretty sure this was the uphill quad at matterley basin mxgp round?

So a very pro rider, repeatedly doing a massive quad, cases it..... yeah I'm not worried about my husky 350

Go look through some of the user groups on FB like Pre-75 Motocross, Old Guys who ride, etc. Tons of motocross photos over the past 60 years. On a regular basis is a photo of some pro's bike broken in half. At the steering head, at the swingarm, you name it. Every brand of bike. Frame and structural failure is not unique to a brand.

Rationalize a pro rider hitting a big jump all you want. That shouldnt happen. Its too common of an occurance.

I agree.

Like I posted earlier I'm not just rolling around tracks, for the most part I jump everything at every track I visit. I may not be as hard on a bike as the average pro rider but I'm sure my bike doesn't get the attention these guys bikes get either. Not saying I don't maintain the bike but full tear downs/ inspections between rides isn't possible for the average guy with a family and job. That and I'm riding a 16 with I'm sure many more hours than this bike had.

Really just trying to make sure I'm doing my due diligence and checking the correct area on the frame for anything abnormal.

Thanks for all the info so far

You might want to keep an eye on it for safety man. It's not only happening to pro's. There's been many posts here on the topic from regular amateur guys.

Definitely a problem in production of those frames, thus they strengthened the area in 2019. I called KTM about this and they wouldn't/couldn't confirm the issue for me, but we all know there is a problem.

From some other posts I have seen, you should be able to see some cracks starting where the steering tube is connected if in fact you have an issue.

Inspect that sucker prior to every ride!

One thing you have to realize is there are a lot more KTM, Huskys on the track these days compared to the Jap brands. Also, anything can break. Ride your KTM and don't worry about it. I was impressed with the way this guy rode it out.

There was a previous thread here showing a larger head gusset on KTM frames starting mid-production year 2018.

Follow this advice if you’re ok with your front end snapping off. Or search for the other thread and keep an eye on your heat tube gussets for cracking or signs of rust.

I had the same bike. Black frame is harder to see the cracks in than the orange in my opinion. I kinda got freaked out too. I also ride the 30 and 40B. I studied that frame, took the tank off, etc., but couldn't ever see anything. Ended up selling the bike and finding a new one. May not have ever been a problem and I mighta just wanted a new bike, but definitely was in the back of my mind any time I hit big stuff or landed hard!

I remember back when forks bent outwards slowly after many many hours of use and you'd rotate them 180* so they would bend back straight.

Never did I worry about the frame snapping. Not gonna lie, I think these huge forks and no flex transmits alot of shock into the frame.

It's concerning for sure.

Nobody quaded anything back when the forks were small diameter.
