He’ll be a 7-10 rider at best , if that. Once he gets to the east coast rounds of MX the 95% humidity and traveling will eat him up. I’ve never understood the hype for this kid.
yer not a weasel, yer a jackass with a keyboard. Thomas will do fine outdoors.

Genuinely like the dude, great person and hard worker...

Now, he lived in Belgium for 5 years.. riding Lommel etc. before moving to Europe, he had virtually no supercross experience.. monster cup is not SX .. it’s very easy for the 85 riders. + no whoops.

He raced In Europe for five years, becoming very very good and winning races here and there. Now he has transitioned back to the US and it’s not as easy as people think it is to just move back to where you’re from after making friends and a home etc in Europe.

Yes, he rides for Rockstar Husqvarna here, just like he did there... but come on, if you think the bikes are the same, you’re crazy... tires, chassis, suspension, etc is all different as you guys have seen how much are done to those GP bikes!

You also have to remember how soft euros run their chassis ... even I struggle with it everytime I go over there, but it’s better on their tracks. He has probably never even had a SX set of suspension until he came back here.

Give him time, he just needs to be comfortable with whoops and big rhythms and riding in 2nd gear and not being in 3-4th gear leaning back wide open for 30 min!

He will be a threat outdoors.

He is simply just learning supercross and getting his feet wet! He will be fine in 2020.

Is coming back from Europe more of a disadvantage than a first year pro in the class?
He’s had a lot of time to test on factory equipment.
Hopefully he figures it out.
Rookies have still been riding sx tho..

Justin Cooper's level? When? I like Covington quite a bit, but that is a pretty fantastic vision at this point.

It's a bummer to see some fans already seemingly rooting for him to fail because he came from the GP's. If Thomas does well it will be because he is talented. It won't be a win for the GP's. Just as it will not be a knock on the GP's if Thomas rides poorly outdoors. Just let the kid race and see how it goes. Don't put him in the middle of some US vs GP nonsense that he doesn't deserve.

I disagree, I think if anything there is more people wanting him to succeed because he comes from the GP's and it's a pretty cool story. Like anything there will be critics but to be fair with his supercross results thus far I'd say some criticism is a bit warranted. I say wait till outdoors, if he starts running upfront there will be a thread here praising him.

Rooting for him to fail because he came from the GPs... or stating the obvious that hes riding terrible and the GPs arent some magical unicorn series where if u podium there youll automatically dominate us riders in everything like the euro fanboys seem to think?

He up against Adam C, Faulkner, Ferandis, Cooper, Nichols, Martin, McElrath, Smith, Sexton, Hampshire, I sure he'll be in the mix.

Did you look at his results last year before posting this? The majority of his motos were top 3. Multiple moto wins. Some motos with fastest lap time. Against Prado, Vlaanderen, Jonass. You're not calling Prado "no one" are you lol.

One should consider the fact Jason Anderson considered retirement after his freshman appearance. Doubled down on a dedicated training program, and boom world champ. So idk, food for thought.

Jason Anderson finished 7th in his first ever SX. TC is struggling (and failing) to qualify for mains.

Didn't Prado just lay waste to most of the field at the MXoN including Eli Tomac, Justin Barcia, and Aaron Plessinger? Are we really calling that kid a no one? Because I think everyone else calls him a world champion.

I'm not sure if his knee problem goes back to the one that surfaced at the 2017 MXDN.

And, that knee, I think was already damaged, before the event.

He / RS Husky probably would have been better off to have it repaired ( right after the GPs), and waited until the Nationals.

Bobby Hewitt ( correct?) has shown in the past he's willing to 'spell' a rider (Anderson), it might be a good idea to stop the SX for Thomas and see if he can get healthy(er) for the Nationals. But, his knee might be totally kaput already.

Supercross is a gnarly and cruel series to jump right into, and more so now than ever. More so than when Musquin and Roczen jumped in, and they were GP world champions. I don't know what Husky expected from Covington in SX, but the dude clearly wasnt ready or is injured.

,
They expected him to qualify for mains (in this weak field) and gradually improve on 10-15th place finishes.
They WERE NOT expecting him to holeshot LCQ’s, single single single triples and drop back to 10th !!
It’s a joke.. I’m sure there are privateer husky riders they could give a shot on factory equipment and see how they go!!??

Look at Dean Ferris results when he rode for KTM in 2014. Remember when these results were considered unacceptable and they sent him back to Europe. (I know there was more to it but was still disappointing to not see him outdoors that year)

No, he hurt himself ( I think back here in OZ on a brief trip back during the 'west' break?)), and got the offer to go (back) to the GPs.

It fitted in well with his injury recovery.

Movement between KTM / KTHusky, is not that far a leap. Though, it may be for JH if Pit doesn't approve of things.........Whistling

Yeah that’s right he did hurt himself.. but I remember at the time there was chatter of his Supercross results being an issue. (I thought they were fine).
Compared to Covington they were outstanding and that was the point I was trying to make, a GP rider was able to qualify for mains and run around 10-15th... which is what Covington should be able to do.

Are you serious about KTM/Husqvarna. I don’t think Husqvarna is THAT independent from KTM???

He was winning races and did beat pretty much everybody in the GP's, on his good days. He even beat Herlings IN THE DUTCH GP race 1 in 2016!! And he has beaten Prado more than once last year too. Probably his weakest point is that he can go from a podium to missing top 10 the next race. On his good days, he can take a podium outdoor I'm pretty sure of that.
