What's relevant is now. You're talking about one dude who's sustained far less injuries, particularly to the head, who's still racing to a bloody respectable level compared to another dude who appears to be full time Dad-ing it, belly and all.
Give James an off-season and perhaps you have a different story but even then, he wasn't himself in 2014. In fact, since he got popped he wasn't himself. You could argue as far back as 2012 or even 2009 at his last title.
That, that right there is all James needs to say.

Stats, while a big part of it, aren’t the entire picture. Dungey has as many sx titles as RV, and not many more wins. Dungey has more 450 outdoor titles and wins than RV, but most people agree that RV had Dungey covered, much like Stewart did Reed.
Also, when looking at all-time greats, lites records are included. I don’t think that there’s much of an argument James will higher on the list than Reed.
