Damn, he was going for it... Such a bummer, it was shaping up to be a great season.
It's heartbreaking that we only made it to round 2 before one of the riders got hurt.
Hoping for a speedy recovery for Malcolm.

When I watched his bike pile drive his leg, I knew immediately that he was in trouble... Then we he laid there, it was obvious he was going in to shock which meant something big was broken/hurt.

My thoughts were, damn you were just starting to really make the big time, lots talking about you and then this. That led to.... Will you be able to make it back next year? I hope so.

I also heard his chain broke causing that crash. Not confirmed though.

A femur is bad, but it could have been much worse, it was probably the biggest face plant i have even seen.

Bummer because he was riding excellent.

Get well soon !

Malcom was riding great.! Heal up dude.
I cringe when they put jumps immediately after a fast tough whoop section. It opens the door for this type of thing.

Was Malcolm wearing knee braces?

He was definitely NOT smiling coming off the track (as I previously thought)

Man that sucks, I was really cheering for Malcolm. He was off to such a great start this year and you could see he put in the work with his fitness.

Gutted for Malcolm. Wanted to see him do well this year. The injury looks like it could have been much worst, pelvis or lower back. Hopefully the Femur is a clean break where they can put a rod down the middle and that’s that. Back in the old days a femur injury might have you laid up in counter weight traction for months followed by a body cast.

However, I can’t help but note how many times recently that bike of his tried to or succeeded in putting him over the bars.

Thanks for the update, man that sucks. I somehow forgot about Zacho, but didn't have a clue on Joey, as I only watched mains from this weekend so far. Huge bummer.

Strange coincidence. Rumor floats from Europe that he broke his femur during the off-season races, only it was not true, and now he really does break his femur. Having broken both of mine I really feel for the guy.

I don't think it really matters when a cartwheeling bike pretty much nails your thigh to the face of the jump.

That was a huge crash. He always goes for it. Crashes a lot. Unfortunately this will happen sometimes when that's your style. Hoping for a speedy recovery. Side note: What is the determining factor in red flags? Malcolm here was in a bad spot obviously and they tended to him for awhile. Roczen was in a similar spot two years ago and riders just rode around him for a few laps. My guess is Roczen could walk and Malcolm couldn't. I would expect both to be red flagged personally, but was just curious if anyone knew the actual protocol. Or if they just make a judgement call on the fly.

Well the actual call is up to the race director, but generally a red flag will come out when the injured is im-mobile and in the track. When he crashed tonight and I saw that he was seriously injured I knew right away they’d red flag it because the whoop section was between the finish line section and a long rhythm section. No way to really care for your patient when you have bikes racing on either side of you.
Roczen was in the middle of the track too. But yeah I figured it had more to do with rider mobility. Stewart's leg means he can't walk where as Roczen's arm meant he could.

Bummer. He looked like he was actually trying this season and was getting some results. I actually found myself rooting for him.

After watching the replay it looks like he gets bucked and accidentally holds it wide open and absolutely friggin ROCKET SHIPS across the whoops to a faceplant. He was going so fast that 2 whoops from the end he wheel taps off his front wheel and clears the whole gap after the whoop section and lands at the top/downside of the next jump. Thats probably a 35ft gap from a front wheel tap that he friggin cleared...

Ive never seen someone going that fast in a whoop section...ever...he had to have pinned that 450 by accident. Maaan I hope hes not too badly banged up. Seriously if you watch the highlights n compare to others laboring through them the fastest guys r going like 15mph hes going 45. Hes EASILY going 3x as fast as the next fastest, probably by accident there though.

you seems a little conservative on your guesstimate...

rofl he was passing friese in th whoops, not a fast rider, and he wasnt THAT much faster, yeah he was fast but the differential with other wasnt critical. Saving a 6th place and passing Friese wasn't worth a broken femur...

With malcolm style it's just a question of when he will injured himself.
No... compared to EVERYONE he was hauling assss.

Especially before the crash I think he got bucked n held it wide open cuz you can see him noticeably accelerate even more.

Mookie had never been this fit to be able to ride a 450 at full tilt. Tough way to learn how a 450 can treat you.

Last femur injury during the season I remember was Canard in 2011. He was injured in mid April and returned in August in MX. This SX season would really be pushing it, and Malcolm has a SX only deal and hasn't expressed desire to race MX. I'm guessing 2020. Sucks. That's three gone already I believe and we are only two rounds in.

It’s not a walk in the park but a lot of femur breaks aren’t the end of the world. Pretty sure kdub was battling some other issues as well.

In one of the videos you can definitely see the gold chain broken and whipping around the rear sprocket.
