Weston Peick was once that " just get in the way and ruin the actual race while there getting lapped and just rolling around" guy... Turns out racing them faster people and putting in the effort worked for him.
And Op, in case you haven't noticed, mx and sx ARE separate.
Not sure what "new idea" you are pitching here.
It is a shame, but theres only 3 or 4 riders out there with a legit shot at the title and i'm being generous. If no injuries take place throughout the season, even that number drops.

I'm not talking about pre-season. I'm talking about getting rid of/eliminating entire teams from the league. Instead of having 32 teams in the NFL, just have 6 with all the best players in the entire organisation.
Why? Because OP's thinking is that he just wants those that stand a chance at winning to be part of professional sports because the other one's are useless or get in the way of other riders.
I'm just using the NFL and the number of teams (6) as an example.
If you can't understand that, hire a tutor and repeat grade school.
Let's take golf for example. They pretty much all make money and that's a fact but how many of them can actually win a round or a tournament?
Again, according to OP's way of thinking the PGA should revoke thousands of PGA cards and just keep the top 20 players "because everyone should have a chance at winning."
According to him and his ideology that would somehow make golf better.
OP is an idiot. Please move this thread to the Dumbgeon where it belongs.
I'm sure watching SX/MX with 5 guys on the gate that stand a chance at winning is better than having a full gate. Get real man.
Somehow this conversation went to kicking loppers out instead of original thought of guys staying longer which would make the field more competitive

MX and SX remains one of the most (if not the) lopsided sports in existence. The talent pool or field is so shallow currently (and has been for some time now) that you only have a couple guys who are legit title hopes. Look at the MX point standings last year. Nicoletti, Bloss, and Peick finished 6th, 7th, and 8th. Those guys have no shot of winning an overall moto yet a title. Barcia and Bagget finished 4th and 5th and they have no title shots either. They might win an occasional moto here and there when the stars align right, but an overall title,,,,,,no. Just keeps getting bleaker the further down the list you go.
Pit Row
Massive skill level/speed differences are dangerous. That type of rule eliminates the massively slower guys from being out there and being in the way.
The fact is that riders are having to qualify to get on the gate for the main so any formula you come up with is going to eliminate riders that otherwise would have been on the gate.
If they really wanted to tighten the racing take away the ridiculous advantage the teams have with $10k suspension components and bring back a workable claiming rule with a streamlined process.
If you doubt what I am saying just watch any, and I mean any podium interview from the last 5-10 seasons of SX/MX Nationals, that my friend is as corporate and sold out as any stick and ball sport there is.
