It seems like a no brainer that DV can help Marv.

Don't know him personally but from listening to him if you aren't going to put in full effort he isn't going to waste his time. A guy like that has enough money and if he is going to train someone it's going to be to give back to the sport. If you don't respect the sport as much as he does find another trainer.

As far as his bona-fides, he is one of the few humans that can say that they beat McGrath straight up in his prime. In my book that is a bad dude.

But then again, you have the guys who are champions who don't seem to know shit about bike setup. And some of them refuse to listen to people that through many years of setting up bikes for other champions actually know how to set up a bike.

DV had a bit of an awkward riding style, isn't that what earned him the Cobra nickname? Fast as shit too, one of the few people that could fuck up a Saturday night cruise fest for some dude named McGrath. While his riding style may not transfer over to all others, fast is fast and picking up pointers wherever you can is never a bad thing.

And let's never forget...

Back in the MotoTalk days!
I think DV gave Rick/Hammertime the jersey after that.
Funny stuff!

I remember watching DV in Seattle on that FMF bike in 1997 running the number 125.
He won the 125 main that night - I think it was his first SX win.
He beat Windham,Reynard,Ramsey,Casey,Johnson,Willow,Schnell..etc.
He did it again next year in Seattle running the number 934.

Dv was hired for two very specific reasons.

He is able to curse at them in french and nobody will know what he is saying.

He will make sure that any riders in contention for the title do NOT schedule a photo shoot.

DV gave some more info today on a video (LeBigUSA).

He coaches Dylan 100%. And about Marvin, the training program is 100% Aldon's, DV will just be here to give some last minute advices on the race day : riding style advices, line choices. And that's about it. Perhaps he will show up a few time during a training session with the same purpose : riding style and line choices.

Total Gary Bailey move... GB did this at a week long school I attended. Kid on a 60 told him he couldn't jump a double because his bike wouldn't do it. GB jumped on the kids bike and sent it.

That was a ballsy move for him to leave a factory team and move his family to TX to be part of that whole ordeal.
Certainly entertaining - glad he did it because those videos never get old.
Loved some of those segments.

Its like being told how to play a guitar , by someone who cant play a guitar.

Just a thought - it doesn't take much to be an observationalist.

It's easy to see where riders differ - even in technique - if you watch. You don't have to be a pro to see these things - or even a rider.

But as an aside - Jerry Masterpool - to my knowledge - was never a motocrosser - and certainly not a top pro.

He has single handedly produced 3 insanely fast boys (RIP Jessie). He teaches some things that are different than many pros teach/do - but common among st many top riders/champions. Any parent with 3 kids would tell you - that's insanely hard to get 3 kids to be commonly exceptional at 1 thing.

His ways of coaching are far different than the current crop of training facilities in every aspect - as far down to how much you ride and race - and yet he is delivering (via his kids) some incredible results.

I've never believed you must be able to do - to coach - tell that to Geanie Carmhichael!

Valid points, but if you are going to tell me that someone's mom is a better coach than a guy who won at SX, i am gonna have to disagree.

That said, i have run a few riding schools, and the best instructors, are not neccessarily the fastest racers, they are the guys that can put into words, what you need to be doing and when, and give folk the confidence to try stuff.

Respect to the Masterpool's , you have to say they have done well.

Some people can teach/coach and some cannot...the best are not always great when it comes to coaching...much of it is motivation and the consistency of strong program you don't have to be a former racer for that...just because you are a champion doesn't mean you have the ability to translate what needs to be done...don't forget many racers aren't the brightest lights in the shed...

Bill Belichick never played a single snap of NFL football either. Must mean he can’t coach players.

i have no idea who that it is. And there is a world of difference between a pre-rehearsed ball throwing , and telling someone how to clear a 3rd gear pinned triple that you need to seat bounce.

It's actually quite tough to coach an entire professional team to several championships. You really need to know what you're talking about and never need to actually be on the field executing plays. Much like a motocross trainer, you just need to know how to coach properly.

So Aldons fee plus DV’s fee maybe this is the most paid for training ever?
