MEC is an exhibition for publicity, has nothing to do with a real race.

In Eli’s post race interview he was asked about the pass on Joey and he completely dodged what she asked him about. Then when Joey was interviewed he was never asked. Have to think Monster advised the media to back off. During the race Ralph & Fro both we’re talking about it and then we’re hushed quickly it seemed. I don’t see a problem with it. Yes Joey had nothing to gain and Eli did. Would Eli have made the pass anyway? Likely. The racing was great in all classes and I can’t wait for next years event! Braaap!
This.

Ralph and Jeff called a spade a spade when it happened and were blown away. Then at the checkers you could tell what they were saying was tounge in cheek. “What a great pass by Tomac for the win.....” etc

I bet they got marching orders quickly after it went down.

Isn’t the MEC held under its own rules?
It has to be sanctioned for insurance purposes, which makes it AMA, which automatically makes it FIM.

As for the rules, they can do what they want, but the track and all the other stuff has to be sanctioned.

This is a $1.9m fraud. If you were on the hook for it , would you be wanting to pay?

You do realize that MEC is really just a 3.5 hour long commercial for Monster Energy products. If you look at the price of commercial advertising between the hours of 6:00pm to 9:30pm you will see that 1.9 million is indeed a bargain.

Eli was coming and if Joey fought back, he was more than likely gonna get punted into the tough blocks. It's not like this is part of the supercross season, this is just for money and bragging. Eli had the chance to win alot of money and Joey was just trying to show he could ride and he made that clear. Dont blame him 1 bit for moving over

I’d like to tell you all about a guy named Bob.

Bob understands MEC is a one off event with no championship implications. Bob would’ve liked to see a last turn pass for the million, but he understands Joey has nothing to gain by agitating his new teammate after an already impressive ride. Bob embraces MEC for what it is, is stoked for the million dollar fan, and is excited for the real racing to start in January.

Be like Bob.

all tomac/savage did was take a little more money from a poison dealer. noone lost out. noone else was going to collect any more money. savage will be taken care of for missing the moto win.

if it makes you feel any better, 25% percent of it will be collected by the feds to prop up inefficient social programs!

This sport continues to blow me away. I mean, how much more of an industry shill could you be to hate on the people that support your site when they complain about big corporations throwing races so you guys can go sell your photos and rack up your web site hits. You want fans or customers, Guy B. It's a cynical as shit attitude. Have a good evening.

I was having a good evening until I come on here and start reading.

For the people whining about Joey, consider this.

How many people would have hated on him if he hadn't pulled over? More? Less? I'm guessing it would have been about the same. It was a no-win situation for him...even if he had won. I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone in the pits who'd argue with what he did.

I think the result would have likely been the same, even if Joey had kept up his pace.

What kind of impression would it have made with the team if he'd won that final main, but cost his new teammate $900,000? Would they have cheered his hard-charging attitude? I find that pretty unlikely.

Eli came from way back. If he'd been third or worse on the track? I'd say it's fair game for Joey to win it. But I'd also guess that there was some discussion about what to do before in various situations before that final main so that there'd be no confusion. Allegedly.

As for being a "corporate shill"? Hey have you got a second?
so did you two hug it out? (referring to your "Hey, have you got a second?" remark). Hate to say it GuyB, but he ain't the first guy to tire of the way you express your opinions toward YOUR CUSTOMERS.

As to the opinion, I tend to agree with our friend NorCal. What you (and some others) fail to recognize is that motocross is one of the rare sports where there are no team tactics. It's man vs. EVERYONE. That's part of the reason why we love it. So yes, throwing the race in the next to last turn so your buddy can win goes against everything that we love about the sport. If ET3 punts Savatgy in the last turn, then good for him. But to pull over (and have the announcers literally laughing at the duo) then a whole helluva lot of us have our jaws hanging agape. The only guy that was rooting for it was the dude that won the $1m. Oh, and ET3. I think that this sets an extremely dangerous precedent for our sport as managers figure out that they could have their 8th place rider "accidentally" take out a series leader while he's coming through the pack....and you better believe there are few team managers thinking about this right now over a cup of coffee.

I wish you'd delegate some of the forum moderation to someone else for your own benefit.

I stopped reading when you said "motocross is one of the rare sports where there are no team tactics". That statement is just untrue and shows you don't really follow the sport.

Also in what way are we GuyB's customers?

Hey Eli, don't worry about all the haters on here. You were the fastest..won the million and blessed a fan with a million. Not bad for a race that has little meaning other than the entertainment value. Haters hate and whiners whine..

Personally , I like that in a competitor . But that’s just me . I guess to some people , being a corporate shill is the most important part of being a racer . To be honest, for all sake. Eli could have offered 5 riders a hundred grand to let him win. And still walk away with 5 times as much as when he would have lost the last race and had to settle with 100.000..... Just saying.

Or maybe Joey is a rational human being capable of intelligent thought, and was miraculously able to come to the conclusion on his own that it might be a good idea to let Tomac go since he wasn't in the running and two people would win a substantial amount of money at nobody's expense but either a poison dealer or insurance giant. Or is that to crazy of a conspiracy for everyone?

Pulling over is pulling over, don’t care if its a local race or for the title. The winner really didn’t win. Dungey knew it when he got the win. So how does Tomac spin this after acting like a pissy little child about this for the last two years?

Also there was no guarantee the Tomac was going to win if 17 didn’t want to let him by.

Agreed GuyB, but in this thread it seems to be the minority opinion. Fortunately those that are envious or just like to find something to be mad at are the ones making noise. There are so many more that understand the situation and are fine with it, I think they are the majority.

Your admission of this is terrifying for this sport. I have said it in other threads, but you better believe that if managers learn that they can get away with this, you'll see their 8th place rider taking out the points leader (accidentally of course) to help their 2nd place points rider because "there was some discussion about what to do before in various situations".
