Awesome amazing ! Just a few too many chainsaws. Curious how much more sandy the track was than normal. Seemed like a deep wet sand track- Coldenhoff was on another level. Looked like he wasn't even trying -

I'll chime in but please keep in mind some of these are issues more related to the Event staff and not the Red Bud track itself.

1) I've been to the TN national and I visited Glen Helen last year for the national. Comparing them to the highly touted REDDD BUDDD, I'd say they're about even. Nothing all that special about the track if I'm honest. That being said, the track crew did a phenomenal job with the cards they were dealt. 10/10.

2) We were parked in Lot A. While it was much more tame than Lot B, we still had our fair share of fun. Heck we walked through Lot B on Saturday night and unfortunately we didn't find anything raucous or raunchy going on. After trekking through the mud for a couple hours, we decided to head back. Which brings me to my next point...

3) WHAT. IN. THE. HELL were the track promoters doing while patrons got dumped with rain and the parking lots/pathways were being churned into giant mud pits?? Did no one think to bring a couple trucks of mulch or sand or hay or plywood boards or SOMETHING. It's a grassy hilly field whether in the pits or by the track. That poor guy on the tractor worked straight through the night towing people around, and while I'm prepared to get dirty at a MX race, this was pitiful execution by facility management (or lackthereof).

4) If they had a rubber boot vendor, they'd have made a killing. And for what I paid between tickets and parking and whatever else, give me a damn event program and have some kiosks with laminated schedules for reference. Some arrows/markers on a map for concessions, restrooms, points of interest would be nice too. Another shortcoming of the event promoters

5) They needed some kind of entertainment or event on Friday. There was literally nothing to do apart from seeking shelter underneath the camper awning.

Bonus: The MXGP riders are just on another level. Maybe the USA didn't have their best showing but we really had no chance in that race. Herlings, Coldenhoff, Prado, Searle, Paulin, Cairoli - so very impressive. A true pleasure to watch them. Congrats to France. The USA will need to make some changes but I'll save that opinion for the other dozen threads on that topic.

The US outdoor series tracks have always focused 99% of their efforts on the riders, media and track. The spectator experience is not a concern to them. Why should they right? Not like we are paying 100% of their costs and profits or anything. Its borderline criminal how little concern mxsports and the track owners have for the spectators at the us national events.

The FIM does a much better job not blocking the viewing with repeater banners and signs than MXsports does with the nationals.

The midway/vendor area should have been wood chips/hay/gravel/something. That was criminal to subject the 40,000 spectators to.

The Pit Pass for $35 was the best money we spent. Great deals from the vendors on gear, Dunlop MX33 rear's for $70 no tax, close up pics of all the trick bikes and lots of signatures. The foreign country teams were super polite and eager to talk.

The FIM starting area back drop, team/mechanic superstructure and wash bays make the us national series a embarrassment in comparison.

General Admission viewing – Outstanding! We set up 3 track side “camps” with 8 chairs each at 7am on Sunday and our groups moved between them. We felt bad for the those in the VIP areas. We had far better viewing.

Laroccos Leap - dumbest move of the event to put in the massive roller before it. McGrath said same thing in his interview. Out of the 100+ riders less than 5 even tried. Its a safe jump. They purposely made it dangerous. Total epic fail. They robbed the fans of memories.

We camped Thursday to Monday so no issues with the mud. We had a handicap vehicle pass so we did not have to walk to the track or pay for track side parking and tailgated in rotations to eliminate having to buy food/beer at track. All in we spent less than $1,000 for 4 people for tickets, camping, gas and food. We were right next to night track so could watch from our campsite.

Overall if you were smart before the event and planned things out it was awesome. If you just showed up you were fucked lol.

Since you asked.....

I am from the Las Vegas NV, I may have a little different perspective on Red Bud than some others I have seen on here.

1. We purchased the VIP tickets. Money well spent, the accommodations were really first class. The food was very good, really. No hamburgers or hotdogs but prime roast beef, Fajitas, salad, etc. no one in VIP went hungry. The bath rooms were nice (no port a potties). I could be wrong but I credit MXGP and Guiseppe Luongo for the excellent accommodations not the Redbud promoters.

2. The staff, who I would assume were all Michiganders, were all pleasant and helpful. This seemed to be a recurring theme in Michigan, how genuinely nice and helpful the people are. Michigan could certainly teach Las Vegas a thing or two about how to treat visitors.

3. Who thought it would be a good idea to host the most prestigious motocross race in the world in Michigan during October? All I can really see when I think of Redbud is mud. What a mess. It may not have been a full on mudder but you could not tell that from the infield or parking areas. Having to walk through 3 to 6 inches of mud to go anywhere in the facility is ridiculous. I don't know, metal grates, wood walk paths, gravel, or sand dumped and smoothed seemed like it could have helped to get from one place to another inside the facility. We ended up staying in the VIP area most of the time just because it sucked so bad walking anywhere.

4. The track. I did not expect to see a sand track. I've watched the race for years on TV but never fully realized how sandy it was. This combined with the mud made for a really crappy race track. From all of the outdoor nationals I have been to over the years, this track would not rate in the top 10.

5. Directions to the track. These were country roads out in the middle of nowhere. The police at the intersections didn't have a clue when it came to what entrance VIP visitors should go in. We spent a lot of money for those passes and did not believe we should have to spend an extra 30.00 to take a shuttle to the race track when free parking was included. We did talk the officer into letting us through after explaining to him the VIP passes but he didn't have any idea which way we should be going to get to the correct entrance. Even after getting in the entrance it was a guessing game on where to park from there due to there not being any parking attendants directing traffic. Some signs stating where the various parking lots were would have been huge. Turns out we wished we would have taken the shuttle.

6. We got stuck in the mud in our rental car in the VIP area. Fortunately, the Redbud promoters came up with the great idea of supplying one tractor to pull out all of the stuck cars. And there were a lot of buried vehicles. Even four-wheel drive vehicles were buried. We were stuck for 3 hours in that shit hole. You would think the promoters would have had some idea that this was going to be a problem since I would presume they have dealt with this before. Fortunately, four Australians pulled us out.

I can only come to the conclusion that the Redbud promoters really could not have cared less about the fans and vendors. They have done this before. Thank god the turn out wasn't anything like what was being predicted. If 50 or 60 thousand fans would have shown up it would have been even more of a mess than it was.

Mud racing is part of motocross, it's the shitty part. Who ever really wants to see a mud race? Maybe the same people who watch mud bogs. The poster that posted that this race "should have been at Glen Helen" could not have been more right. He caught a lot of shit for that post but he was right. It was 77* and partly cloudy Sunday at Glen Helen.
I disagree I went hungry. It was supposed to run 11:30 to 3:30. I was there about 1:30-2 and they were out of food and tried to tell us we were late. I was pretty disappointed in that part of it.

I saw a lady with flip flops and she ditched them to go bare foot for the whole day, that would be uncomfortable!

I had rubber boots on and could go anywhere I wanted and my feet stayed dry. It’s too bad it rained so much but can’t blame the event for that.

First timer here. It was awesome. Great job by all involved.
Redbud is one of those tracks I always wanted to go to....bucket list material I guess. I drove 12hrs each way. VIP ticket.
I had a blast. The food at the redbud grill is surprisingly good. I missed the food on Sunday in the tent because I was walking around the track the first half of the day.
The track was in great shape. Met some cool people, heard some funny lot b stories, and yes it was muddy but that’s what happenens at a motocross race when it rains. I brought boots but still busted my ass once.
I stayed at a hotel so I had to park both days in the mudbog. It turned out ok. I stayed around after I got to my car both days and watched the entertainment of people getting stuck and people making it out. While doing that I came up with my line though the muck. I banzai’d through in a compact car and made it out both nights.
All of this just adds to the story, the experience for me......epic event, mud and all.

The whole experience was awesome. Drove 2000 miles from Arizona and got there Thursday morning stayed in lot b. Met a lot of cool people the Sweden’s brought the party but after Friday night lot b kind of died down. Saw some boobs so that’s a plus. Got the gold vip experience the food was crap and they only served bud light and an ipa but free beer is free beer. Watched the whole race on the fence overall great experience red bud is an amazing facility and I would love to go back on the 4th one of these years.

Ive posted in other threads but short version. Loved the place they did an amazing job. Its not thier fault if you didnt prepare for rain and mud.

But what about the creepy scarecrows all over Buchanan? Not sure if everyone saw them, i tend to go opposite of traffic jams. So when things got backed up in town i went right where everyone was turning left. I swear it was straight out of a scary movie. To top it off i had no cell signal so i couldnt get gps to work and found myself parked between a graveyard just down the street from a corn field. I just laughed and was glad i had 1/2 a tank of gas lol.

The scarecrows were odd to say the least!

Parking was interesting both days, I parked on the backside off of Main Street and I could not believe they left all the slop. They had dozers driving around.. why not push the slop off the lane ways?

Walking around the facility was also not ideal... Put in almost 10 miles a day, some sand / wood-chips would have been appreciated!

As far as the track goes it was nothing like a typical redbud national... they brought in a ton of sand, probably to help the track in case of rain, and the layout was much shorter than it typically is. Way too many VIP areas taking up prime spots... did we really need 5 different track side VIP spots?

Anybody have before / after pictures to show the damage done to the facility this weekend?

My only complaints are you can hear well and the viewing. My dad can not walk well and it was very tough to find a spot he could set and see seeing how the bleachers were being sold, not much you can do there but the courtesy carts for handicap and people needing assistance could have been a little better too. I only seen a few the whole weekend and majority of the time it was kids or people who didn’t need it riding around on them.

Other than that the track was awesome and the leap was crazy to see. Loved the experience and would definitely go back.

They shortened the track for this event. It's usually bigger.

Here's my observations.

-Track was much softer than I anticipated but soaked all the rain really well and did not became mudfest
-The area where the track is laid much smaller area than it seems to be in TV. It made following the race much easier
-Larocco's leap is huge
- Sound system in the area was really poor, you couldn't hear announcements while the racing was on
-There wasn't enough food and beer stands in the area for the large crowds¨
- Local people where really helpful and friendly
- US team riders where much slower than I anticipated.
- Dutch riders are animals
- Pastrana, Windham and Sipes are still very fast riders
- Pastrana's backflip from the tabletop was probably the craziest thing I have seen live in a motocross race
-There parking area was total nightmare luckily we had our accommodations only two miles from the track so we could go there by walking

They’ve been making it shorter for years. Used to be a lot bigger.

Viewing at Red Bud is not great be honest. Even sitting at the very top of the grandstand near the ski jump we could see maybe half of the track? (including the end of the start straight, past the mechanics area, triple step up, big table top and the Monza? turn). And we had the best general admission seats you could get, I am pretty sure of that. Had we not snagged the top of the grandstand both days we would have only been able to see maybe 25 to 30% of the track from any one place?? We expected this, so it was not a big deal.

Awesome time overall though. Atmosphere was great. People in Michigan were friendly, watching people slide around and face plant in the mud was hilarious, food was reasonably priced. Dude in wrestling leotard and blonde mullet wig was hilarious. He was already lit at 9am on Saturday running around with his loudspeaker. Hilarious.

Oh one thing I forgot to mention that was severely lacking was garbage cans in the B lot. I was told they got rid of them because people would set them on fire but man it really sucked having to lug around trash from one end of the grounds to the other.

Not to be negative, but spectating was terrible. First time to red bud. Yes the track on TV is amazing, but being there as a fan was a bit of a bummer. If you went to certain sections you completely isolated yourself from the rest of the track and had to wait 2 minutes to see the leaders again.

If you haven’t been yet, go to high point where you can pretty much watch the entire lap and follow whichever battle you want.

Yes it was amazing and a party to remember. Pig shit mud as far as the eye could see in the pits put a damper on things.

Bought the VIP GOLD ticket for $700 and it was nice to be out of the rain, under the tent. Bathroom was nice and close and not a porta potty that was overfilled like the others. Apparently the pumpers were having a tough time getting thru the mud to pump them out, from what I heard...
Viewing wasn’t the greatest, because of the layout, but I made my way around to see the whole track on Friday and a little on Saturday.
Contrary to some of the other posts, I think RedBud did a GREAT job, but there were a few good points made as well from these posts.
VIP parking and entry was the best and we had ZERO issues with the mud, although we saw many cars/ trucks stuck in the mud.
The food in VIP area was pretty good quality, but not a great selection of breakfast food, by amy means. But none the less, there was PLENTY of food, if you were hungry. Free beer was nice, although it was Bud Light... lol
Racing was awesome, except for the USA teams results. Coldenhoff, Cairoli, Herrlings, Prado, Lawrence, Paulin weee all so impressive !!
The roller they put in before the LaRoccos leap was dumb, but it didn’t stop Coldenhoff from hitting (and downsiding it) every lap on Sunday !! The guy was having the race of his life, so smooth and looked effortless.
I’d do it all again, but hopefully without the rain !

The worst thing about it is that there was not nearly enough places to buy food and beer. Lines were a joke to get anything. You also couldn't hear the commentary at all when the racing was on, making it very difficult to work out what was going on with the team race

This was our first time to Red Bud. We went to Matterly last year and I can compare the two. Matterly has an awesome viewing setup. I thought Red Bud was very poor in comparison, we could only see @ 1/3 of the track from any one spot. With both being mudders, Red Bud did a good job for the weather. We had VIP parking at Red Bud and it did help. At Matterly, we parked in the sloped corn field and it took some serious skill to get out without getting stuck. Both locations had more than their share of crazy fans. I agree the RB chant did get overwhelming at times, as did the chainsaws at Matterly. The Euros looked incredibly fast at Matterly and backed it up at RB. Whether Europe or US based, the riders are the best part of watching Nations races for me. Those guys are Amazing..

My buddy and I made the trip from Texas for our first time at Redbud and a MXDN. We both had an awesome time. The parking lots were a mess, but we saw the forecast and upgraded our rental car to a 4x4 F150 when we landed in Chicago, so that didn’t bother us. Watching people try to get out of there, or just messing around in the mud actually made for some entertainment. One dude in a Nissan truck was wide open doing donuts on his way out, right by the parking staff, I thought for sure they were going to be pissed but they were cheering him on. Pretty cool to see them let people have fun rather than being assholes about it.

I’ve only been to 1 other national (Ironman) and I feel like Red Bud was kind of shitty for viewing compared to it. You could only see 1/3 or 1/4 of the track in any spot we could find. That wasn't a big deal though, I went for the experience more than to watch the race. Also, I’ll probably get some shit for this, but the leap was smaller than I imagined. It’s a decent size jump with a huge roller as a landing. That built up landing is all that seems to make it big.

Lot B is as crazy as you hear about. I felt like I entered a whole different world when I walked past the gate. I saw so much shit I can’t believe. If anyone was there Saturday night, I’m sure you saw or heard about the gas can incident. I was standing right by it when all that went down! Haha.

Overall, I had an awesome time. All the locals we talked to were really nice too. If I could round up some buddies, I’d definitely make the trip back up for a National or another MXDN.

One last thing, the night track looks like the most epic pitbike track. That track would be perfect to host a big pitbike race.
