I'm surprised it isn't mandatory to have goggles on at all times yet. It doesn't take that long to stop and swap for fresh ones if needed and the risks are sky high without them.

Yeah i agree, it should be mandatory to pit for new goggles the next lap when you have tossed your goggles.

Gnarly injury, i hope Vlaanderen will be ok.

When I was watching Cairoli going through the pack I was wondering if I was about to see someone sacrifice their vision for a race win. Imagine a 450-sent rock hitting your eye. Shiiiite.

If you are racing at any time in Australia without goggles, they will black flag you.

I guess that's why the doctors didn't let him race moto 2.
he would have probably gone out and raced had it been his decision

OMG. I am glad it is not more severe.

I am surprised by the (lack of) technology. I mean we are in an era where cars can drive alone and after 40 years we still can't make googles for mud races ? Why still no wifi + handlebar button or sensor roll offs that can give 200 screens and that are bullet proofs ? I mean, it is not like googles are getting cheaper or that they don't have enough riders to test it ! For the price of an airbrake+roll offs, that is at least what we should get ! It also makes mx looks so amateurish each time there is a mud race when you see riders dropping googles everywhere... Rant over, but at $200 for a bit of plastic it is justified sorry.

Something similar happened to my son. Vision has made a complete 100% recovery, but one eye is always dilated more than the other. Looks freaky, but functionally, it's fine.

Glad to hear that- I think David Bowie the famous musician also got hit in the eye with a stone or something and that also resulted in one eye being more dilated than the other, think it also was a slightly different colour from the other.
Probably added to Bowie's appeal and quite unusual look in a way!
Glad your son recovered! Hopefully Calvin will also.

quote "I remember reading Bowie got his during a playground fistfight, in school as a kid."...
yea you maybe right- thought it was as stone but maybe a fight as Motogrady says above.
Haaha- funny Bowie didn't really seem the type to be a brawler!

hope Calvin heals up anyway and when he does 100% he looks as cool as Bowie did!

What a shame though- they would have won it. Better luck next time Calvin, maybe your chance will come again. Hope so.
