Apart from the obvious, that the decision os ludicrous, he makes a really good point. The federation is walking on water...they've won 5 in a row and, in their minds, don't think they can do anything wrong. The problem is it ignores last year was a mudder with team C USA team, 2016 USA nearly clinched it without a 4th rider if it weren't for Webb throwing it a way (so it was lucky)...and b team from USA, 2015 Marvin was there...but it still wasn't an A USA team.

This year it's a dam strong USA team...they really need to send their best team...but the federation is thinking the Paulin Febvre combo worked last time with Marvin....so why not now?

If they are doing this cause he turned them down last year...it goes to show how immature they are. This shouldnt be personal...it should be about picking the best team. Imagine if Roger D did that by excluding Tomac cause he missed last year? No one cares....u should always select the best team.

Yup a lot happened in tgat last lap...but the point was it was damn close...without the accident of Anderson, USA porbably wouldve won.

Basically the federation have been getting away with questionable team selections cause the team has won...

"With all those facts, you still have to pick Marvin over Romain. The excuse the Federation gave is that they estimated Marvin wasn’t as motivated as Romain for the event. That’s a bunch of crap. Marvin has been saying for weeks he wants to race MXDN. Let’s not forget, Marvin won Red Bud this year. You don’t take the best French rider of the moment who won the race on the track the MXDN will take place. Are they that stupid? But for me, the biggest error is to have Paulin in the team. I understand he’s been on the team since 2009, won 4 MXDN but he’s not as good as he used to be. He just went 13-13 in the last GP and got lapped in both motos. His last 6 moto scores are 5-11-6-6-13-13 in the last 3 GPs. The “rule” is to take the best riders of the moment. Paulin is just not doing good right now. The choice for the 3rd guy should’ve been between Febvre and Paulin for the Open class spot. Marvin should’ve been locked in. And if you want to have the best 3 guys of the moment for your MXDN team, Ferrandis and Musquin should be locked in and you have to pick Febvre over Paulin because Romain is doing way better lately and also in the last couple MXDN editions. Romain won for France in Italy in 2016 by passing a guy in the last lap of the last moto. He went 1-3. Last year in England, he was also the best french performer with a 2-3."

coldenhoff has been on great form this year. finished 4th at trentino (hardpack) how is he only dangerous on hardpack? he wont beat jeffrey or Eli but should have most of the others covered

I think it’s now important that I say a few words about what Jacques Bolle, President of the French Federation, said at the team announcement were the reasons and factors they looked at in selecting the team this year.

First of all, the motivation… For the record, the French coach came to America for the Red Bud National and spoke with me there to make sure I was motivated and available to race Des Nations. I confirmed I was 100% motivated and that being teammate with Dylan Ferrandis would be great! Also, what greater motivation is there for me to perform than to race in front of the world here in the US, on a track I just won? If that’s not motivation enough then I don’t know what would be!

Jacques Bolle also talks about the importance for the rider to be healthy and performing good around this time of the year. Seriously, what do you want me to say to that… ? My results speak for themselves. I finished 2nd in the AMA SX Championship this year and I’m currently a title contender for the outdoor championship with three races left! I won Red Bud this year and I’ve been racing at Red Bud for the last 8years…..

I’ll save everyone time and not go into details about the planning and logistics that have already gone in to be part of that race from either my side, my Red Bull KTM teams side, the factory, my sponsors and or the rest of my crew….

To me it’s sad to be overlooked again especially given the race is going to be here in the US where I compete almost every weekend for the last 8 years now and against many top riders that I am sure will be selected on the US home team. But I do really want to thank everyone who has and continues to support me and thank all the French, American, and all the other fans who have shown their support for me after this announcement. It means a lot to me.
If Musquin didn't make it this year, he won't likely won't ever after those comments.

He could have sucked it all up and gushed over how great the team selection was. Be the consummate professional. Then let his fans do the complaining, and "maybe" be on the team in a future year - showing the French Federation how much he supports their decisions unconditionally. Then, if he is never picked again and retires, he can regret not standing up for himself..... ouch

I'm glad he spoke up - careers are short and he has been wronged.

I hope this gets a fire burning under Marv and he wins all the remaining motos in the nationals, wins the championship,
signs on with team Peutorico ( I bet I spelled that completely wrong) and takes the mx1 class at mxon with a 1_1 !
That would be fairy tale stuff and a great story line for a movie or documentary!
It probably won't happen, but you gotta admit that it is possible!

Oh well, if the French team decided not to pick arguably the 3rd fastest guy in the world for their team, that’s their choice. If your a fan of any country besides France you have to be stoked!

On paper and paper only, you would think he is not touching Eli, Herlings, AC and Roczen. Most likely Barcia, Febvre, DeSalle, JVH beat him and im proabably missing a couple others. On paper only of course. I would not he surprised at all if AP or Garcia beat him as well on 250s.

Being an Aussie fan.....its gone from being a potential podium if we sent last year's team of Ferris, Gibbs and Lawrence, to a situation of who can we even choose? Actually, the riders have to fill out an application for MA and have to front up part of the expense money.
Ferris won't go, Gibbs got injured, Lawrence in a slump after being injured ( still probably our no 1 choice though ) Jed Beaton injured, Todd Waters in a slump after being injured, Hayden Melross??
Would be nice to have France's problems....
Im thinking we should just send our top two mx1 finishers ( after Ferris )from our own series and the mx2 winner...give em a shot...if they can afford to go

do you even watch gps?! glen has been in the pack of riders behind cairoli and herlings most of the season. those 2 are next level much like roczen and tomac in the ama (and Marvin but hes not been selected) but the riders from 3rd to 10th have been very evenly matched. its not like the ama where the level drops off so quickly. coldenhoff gets great starts so should be top 5-8 easily at the nations. bear in mind alot of the gp riders won't be there.. with herlings most likely going 1-1 at red bud. a consistent coldenhoff and a good result from vlanderen they will be contenders for sure. Calvin is on great form lately too

Coldenhoff's speed has been very impressive recently under the radar. Obviously he was fast at Lommel, but also at Loket he was very impressive. His starts were garbage and he came through really well on a track that's difficult to pass on. He's in done decent form, if they pick him for the Open class instead of MXGP, then he could do enough for The Netherlands to win

No chance would I want Musquin on Team GB if the circumstances were the same, he's French. He didn't go to the USA until he was 24.

exactly! vlanderen is 5th in the world champs with several podiums and a race win too..dutch have a very formidable team this year. agree 100% they put glen in mx3 they have a great shot at the win this year

No chance would I want Musquin on Team GB if the circumstances were the same, he's French. He didn't go to the USA until he was 24.
But enough about you. How old was DeCoster before he started managing Team USA? It seems a shame that a guy who is better than 95% of the competitors won't be one.
