How do you idiot proof a motocross track? Forkner missed it by an inch. Glad he wasn't hurt but no need to change the track.

Didn’t Trey break or maybe re-broke his femur in that crash? I was thinking he had two crashes on that jump, but I might be wrong.
Trey broke his femur at the Easter break in SX, testing for outdoors. Then came back at Milville, and had this getoff at Washougal.

Forkner is on the edge, sometimes it bites him. I'm amazed he has not been hurt worse in some of the crashes he has had. He is going to have to figure out how to smooth it out 5% but only lose 0.5% of his speed.

As for the tracks we should probably get rid of Larocco's Leap and Martin Mountain too, they look dangerous. And that hip jump at Glen Helen where Christian Craig tore his ACL. And holeshot devices, since Forkner's released and hit him and displaced some ribs. Come on....

They used to air it out more back in the day. The first pro rider I saw really wadd there was Justin Buckelew during day qualifying in 2000 when he was 158 on the yot. He holeshot and did the same exact thing. Luckily no one tagged him as he stood there in the middle of the track. Then Brown in 2003, Canard in 14?, and Forkner were the most memorable ones. That's a lot of laps by a lot of riders if you think about it. I've seen more riders eat shit in the whoops honestly, maybe they should take the whoops out?

If I’m a team owner, I’m telling my guys to play it safe over that one. It’s not a particularly dangerous jump, but it has some major consequences when it goes wrong. I wonder what the time savings is for scrubbing that jump.

Hope forkner is alright. But it looks like he will be out for a couple of races under concussion protocol.

Watching Canard's crash 7 years later still hurt my stomach, huge bummer.

Another topic, Ferrandis got a bit lucky to avoid Forkner and vice versa but he also deserves some credit too for anticipating and managing to avoid hitting Forkner's neck/head. Glad everyone is ok and will be racing next round !

He says he'll be back at the next round. Don't think he was diagnosed with a concussion.

I don't think it is about time saving on the jump here but more on the momentum kept for the long straight that may save about .1 a lap. Maybe the jump could be more "direct", just uphill / "less rounded" since it can lead to high speed unexpected crash. But overall I am still surprised there is so much shadows, for me it is sketchy and quite a miracle we don't see much crashes during the part in the forest.

Jesus, so let's bulldoze the whole f-ing place flat AND cut all the trees down. Then it will be safe. Or just go hold the race in a WalMart parting lot.

That's not even CLOSE to the most dangerous jump on the track. Road jump is way worse in traffic and if you go down over the top. Ask me how I know.

This is moto. These guys are f-ing fast and do shit we can't even think of. You push the limit, sometimes you pay the price.

Scrub within your boundaries and it shouldn't bite you.

I don’t think they should change it either. Just saying it does tend to be a bad place to crash. It’s a far landing so if it goes wrong it’s a long ways down. It is kind of sketchy jump but people are right. You can’t bulldoze the whole track flat. Is what it is. One jump you just can’t scrub off like that.

I don't get all you internet forum hardasses who just dig your heels in and say there is nothing wrong with it, leave it

For the sake of a small modification Canard doesn't break his femur, Pourcel, Ryno, blah blah blah... Forkner doesn't crash out and we get to see the stars keep racing... Isn't that preferable?

We're not cutting the fucking pine trees down or removing the whoops. It's still Washougal.

But to be real: I'd be 100% on board with doing away with the holeshot devices. They are, as identified, a potential hazard and serve no real competitive purpose.

The camera angle from TV makes it look like it drops down into a g-out before coming up the hill. But in reality it’s almost flat on the landing and starts climbing into the rollers.

In all honesty it’s such an easy jump, that people take it for granted and it bites them when they push the edge.

I liked that jump when I raced there last year during the National amateur days. You suck it up (vet scrub) and get the rear wheel down. I passed several guys there by keeping low and keeping momentum.

The landing area is flat to the world.

That's probably one of the safer jumps on the track. Forkner learned a valuable lesson yesterday.

You guys calling for change have never ridden there it's a pretty flat landing. Definitely not a scary jump was all rider error it's like you've never seen a rider high side and get thrown at speed. Quick wrap everyone up in bubble wrap and line the track with pillows and land on bouncy houses.

Your making mr bigglesworth angry.

Honestly thought he was going to be a star. From the MEC minis to that first rookie MX season showing promise. I was wrong on that one. Hope he’s okay and makes a quick recovery. That was a gnarly crash.

How about we start accepting that actions have consequences? When the rider makes a mistake while attempting to do something on purpose, sometimes it can cause them to crash.

Of course it's a dangerous jump. In the history of motocross, nobody has ever crashed hard scrubbing at warp speed......................ever.
7/30/2018 1:24am
There is a video from the mid 90’s of a dude pushing his bike off that track on what looks like the same jump, and he get t-boned hard by a rider that didn’t see him on the track, is this the same jump? Just adds to its history if it is.

yes lets not be concerned with rider safety...
says all the bullshitting "im tough as nails" dipshits...

dipshits that have no idea that without improving safety less and less will be in this sport...

most professional sports now very much monitor injuries, but our sport, one of the most dangerous.....nah just slow down ..

whats canard upto?, no ones heard boo..

oh dc, yeah he picks up a shovel to smooth a lip out and also comes on here to shovel shit..

and please now call me "weak" cause it actually proves you are punch drunk stupid from to many crashes..Grinning

Yeah I don't think it needs to be removed but I also don't think it needs to be a 'step up' like it is.. Just knock the unnecessary half a foot off the top of the 'landing' that they don't use anyway

...like when Stew started scrubbing to hard over SX triples and clipping his footpegs on his 125 and they started mellowing out triple lips. Stuff can be changed and still maintain the difficulty.

Knock half a foot off and it will entice them to scrub harder to stay lower. The lip just needs more pop.

I understand it isn’t necessarily a dangerous jump, but if it keeps hurting people.... Change it!
think about how many riders hit that jump on saturday, and the amount of times they hit it...even Forkner....and didn’t wreck. the jump doesn’t need to be changed.

Jump definitely doesn’t need to be changed. It’s actually a super easy jump. Anyone with a little bit of experience can hit that jump pinned and all is fine. But when you try to throw the bike sideways to gain an extra tenth of a second, anything can happen on any jump. Which it did here.

Wow, all this advice from people that have never even ridden it. Make a lip, take a foot off the landing, fill in the g-out.

Hell. it's not really even a jump. It's a simple damn hill that rolls off into a flat. Really slow riders don't even catch air off it. You clear it and it's hammer on uphill (4th gear) through the rollers (when they are there) and over the top. The quicker you get back on the ground the more drive you get up the other 2/3 of HP hill. If I could scrub I would too. It's way faster.

There isn't a damn thing you can do to "fix" that "jump".
