SX is something like baseball or nascar. Guys in US think those are the best and most important sports in the world, but nobody outside of USA gives a flying fuck about any of it.
Racing a monster cup for 99% of the GP riders would be a straight up suicide. One mistake can be too costly and derail an entire season.
I thought Gajser was doing good last year, but as we seen it, one mistake and he was pretty much out of it. The closer to SX the track is, the more punishment riders get for a the slightest mistakes
Supercross? Out of the question. DEADLY for a highly skilled GP rider. Bikes are the same but It is a different sport!
Look how much time it took Roczen and Musquin, both incredibly talented riders, to get good at SX.
Nobody competing in MXGP class has that much time (at least 2-3 years in my opinion) to adapt to SX. Careers are just too short in this sport.
Also i'll add Herlings said something along the lines of this year 'I would love to race SX if I could do whoops, I crash every time I go through a set' think it was in a GateDropMX interview.
And Bogle axed himself too, if I remember correctly. TG lasted longer than 2 SX Experts, with how many years of experience?
Yet, you'll generally just see US people bringing up TGs exit from the event.
Such is selective memory.
Still, it will be interesting to see if any of the GP or other OS riders take part in an event of no importance to them. They've got their real jobs / career to think of. Unless they want to establish a (bit of) a SX related credential, if they want to go and play in the Circus of SX. That, I could understand.
Herlings? - if he's got the MXGP Title in hand (or if he hasn't), I'd say KTM might well offer him a bonus Not to mess about with the MEC. They've a significant investment in their (probable) MXGP dominator of the next few / many years.
The main issue is the bikes are set up very differently, Gajser did great (well until ...). Not sure others can do as great.
- Gajser, let us hope he give it another try, he did more than great for a first time.
- Paulin or Febvre should be able to race with a decent set up.
- Herlings can too, too much talent. He did well at the SMX cup too.
- Prado but I don't think he has ever trained on a 350/450.
- Lawrence ? It may be risky to try to race just after a week of sx prep.
- Anstie ? Why not since he is looking for a ride (I thought he was going HRC with Bogers out for longer)
thats like when the MEC is at Lommel and Herlings and Cairoli decides to race the MEC
No, they won't make a penny at the actual race, but the $$$ part comes in via marketing their "brand" (them/their own name) here on American soil. Seriously, with so few factory rides available, top riders now days MUST market themselves to the few companies that have the cash to pay for their services. Part of a top rider's marketing package should absolutely include MEC because of the vast media coverage, as well as the big wigs that will be there in person to rub elbows with (that they normally never see in Euro land)..
That could be a solid point if I was in charge to convince the GP riders !
That way we euros could have 2 ass whooping for 1 in about 7 days lmfao (or a big revenge just in case of crash/racing incident)
Pit Row
SX is the pinnacle of the sport for the USA mx part , i get that ...
you really think USA SX is watched more or followed more in Europa as MXGP ?? you cant be serious :-)
Don't really wanna get into this whole whats better SX or MX thing... however just thinking about it, if it came out tomorrow that supercross had gone down the pan and there was no more supercross, I really wouldn't be that bothered about it. I watch it when I can but its not why I'm a fan of the sport. Now if there was no more motocross I'd find the nearest cliff to throw myself off
Just my opinion but MX is racing at its purest form, blows my mind that SX is somehow more important and more of a money maker for the teams and riders but it can't be denied I guess...
Maybe right now the current GP generation is competitive against the US top guy (Tomac, Dungey, RV at 95%), but in the like past 30 years the US have always produced and attracted the best riders, McGrath and RC as native but also in terms of "internationals": Bayle, Albertijn, Pichon, Tortelli, Vuillemin, Roncada, Langston, Reed, CP, Rattray, Searle, Anstie, Musquin, Roczen, Ferrandis. Not all have titles, still this list has 15 world championships (whereas it was only a step as they competed most of their career in the US). Lots of GP riders that stayed in the GPs would not have titles or so many titles if the list above had been there.
To be considered as THE best, you have to win both in SX and MX so the US is at least a 3 to 5 years experience to do.
