I usually ride at 6 am for an hour or so before I go to work so the battery life is a Non-Issue for me. I also have a KTM 300XC that i can ride if I'm going for longer rides

I bought my YZ450 left over for ~$6700 out the door and maybe its still worth $4500- I can stomach losing a couple thousand. Spend $11,000+ out the door and its worth $4500 after 2 or 3 years I am out $7000+.

Sorry man, just pulling your leg.
The negatives would be, battery life, cost, unproven technologies, suspension maybe, it will be outdated in 6-12 months and the new one will be 10x better.
I can see all the OEM's jumping in the pool soon. Gas Gas (Torrot), and Beta will have one I am sure very soon, KTM is working on them now, Yamaha has a Trials bike already to go. You know Honda will have one at some point.
I would wait until some of the competitors release theirs and see if they are a big improvement over the Alta. If you have to have one now be aware that you are an early adopter and the technology will move quickly from here. You may get stuck with a electric bike that is obsolete much sooner than a gas burner.
Competition is a great thing for consumers. I've been an early adopter of products before and gotten burned in the same fashion. I will let the others get something out there before I pull the trigger.
That said, I have every intention of buying one once MX Sports fully releases details on how they will structure an electric class. I feel like getting on one the first year they are allowed at Loretta's is my only true shot at ever making it. I'm trying for 30+ next year, but I honestly don't have the speed.
-range/recharge time. I literally couldn't finish a race let alone training/fun/playing days.
Pit Row
I don't care about cost, I care about value.......I do not want to spend 10 k on a bike that is worthless after a few years because it needs a new battery. I let the trailblazers buy the first ones, then decide if new or used is for me.
I've heard many a salesman tell me what the lifespan is of a part.....only to buy it and realize the actual lifespan is half what they said. I'll wait till the price comes down and there are some long term high hour bikes out there to see the real lifespan of things.
Cons:
Weight (electric stand?)
No 2T exhaust note
Have to buy 220v generator
Still have to lube the chain & change tires (boo hoo)
Pros:
Do not have to buy race fuel
Do not have to buy lubricants
Do not have to buy air filters
Do not have to buy aftermarket exhaust
Do not have to buy oil filters
Do not have to change oil
Do not have to change filters
No repacking of exhaust
No jetting ( I am a 2T guy)
No engine maintenance
Relatively fast recharge time
I am probably in for next year...
That said... I don’t discount the “to each his/her own” statement as I think they would be fun to ride as a secondary bike to jack around on while others may look at them to race. I do believe they need to allow them to race once they find a way to prove that they could be legal in various classes other than Open classes.
Electric cars have been around for years and now Tesla is looking to file bankruptcy and the mass majority of vehicles are still gas burners or diesel. Again... there is a Niche market for them but I don’t see them overtaking the 4 strokes or even the 2 Strokes for that matter. The biggest market they may have would probably be with the 50 classes, imo.
Why I wouldnt buy one can’t be narrowed down to just one reason.
1. Run times on a charge is not sufficient to have one as a primary bike.
2. Is the perceived value worth the cost of the bike? For us, it is not when considering an Alta (My son rides TMs, so I’m willing to pay more as long as I believe my ROI is actually worth it.)
3. Limited classes to run them in until Alta agrees to play nice wth the AMA to prove output capabilities to open up more classes to them.
4. Then comes the more minor annoyances: Not a high quality look to it, no clutch, no noise (big picture it will deter fans from attending pro events). IMO, We would witness the complete demise of the sport because it completely changes the Motorsports Racing dynamic to a glorified BMX race. I don’t recall filling football stadiums to watch bmx Racing.
