Jennings' rides:
Early '75 Norm Reeves: Bultaco

late 75: US Suzuki: Started as an RM test rider

76-77 US Suzuki: full factory. He raced the 76 125s on RM based bikes, got a few rides on RA125s (Grossi's when Billy was out and a hand-me-down Gaston Rahier bike in 77) had an RH250 for Supercross.

78 Started the season on a Bultaco that hardly finished a moto throughout the pre-season and Golden State races, blew up big time at the first AMA National at Hangtown, then he picked up a ride with Wheelsmith Maico.

79 US Suzuk:i: a support ride, he pulled a 4th at Hangtown and had some more top ten rides throughout the AMA 250 series and some top ten Supercross rides too.

80 Race Ready / Honda: Race Ready was a Texas-based clothing line, Honda supplied the bike and parts. JJ ripped some great results in the Golden State Series, including a battle royal with Donnie Hansen.

81 Pro Circuit / Anaheim Husqvarna: It started as a shop ride, then US Husky pitched in some $$ and parts and even some factory mechanics at some Golden State rounds and at ABC Superbikers. Some real battles took place in the GSS series in the open class against Broc Glover. JJ stacked hard at Hollister, knocking himself silly. At the LA Coleseum JJ was the last rider to put a dual-shock/air-cooled bike into a Supercross main.

82 US Yamaha: A factory ride on production bikes. JJ tweaked his knee early on and put in only a few rides that year. The bikes were overweight, the rear suspension was dismal, the handling was freaky (radiators on the upper triple clamp!) and JJ never came to terms with the bike or the team. It was really his last real chance.

83 Mid Cities Honda: JJ prepped a Honda CR250 (Pro Circuit motor, Ohlins shock) that was worlds better than his 82 YZs. He was running very well at local races, but two days before the season opener at Anaheim, he blew out his right knee while practicing at Mockingbird Canyon, Riverside. He had surgery and did a few local things later than season, using one of the then new CTI braces, but never got back up to speed.

87 After being away for four years, pounding nails and such, JJ got the itch and bought a YZ and was doing real well in the So Cal Yamaha Series. Consistent rides had him leading the series, despite him getting zero support. As he said then, he was racing on tires that he wouldn't have used for practice back when! Sadly a work accident in which a nail went through his knee cap ended his hopes of getting back to speed.

Whew!

Steve Scmitz fast socal local guy.
Tim Locey 6 in the 500 nats in 84 thought would get a ride.
Gary Bowman 9 in the 125 nats in 84 then eruptly quit.

I thought Steve Scmitz rode for suzuki on the mini's and when he step up to 100/125's then he disapeared??

has to be two of the fastest and most dominant riders i can remember watching that just didnt make it.
Riddle had his chances. Horrible waste of talent.

Shawn Clark - Fast Indiana kid, but injuries have set him back. Three years in a row had shoulder problems, surgeries, etc...

He's back racing now aboard Yamaha's. Hopes to challenge for a +25 LL title here in a few years!

If Kevin Walker hadn't broken his arms or wrists all those years ago he probably had a good shot.

Eric Hall was a heck of a racer up north for sure. He seemed to win everything up there in sight.

Ryan Huffman, McCormack, Ryan Terlecki represented the northwest well in the mid/late 90s.

Ryans dad Ron was really fast in his day around the mid 70s.
Cory Bauder was really fast until he went Pro and he never seemed the same after.

When I rode with Juan Benevedez 1982 he was riding a well used YZ 250 driving it around in an old dodge van, he might have gotten a few parts from Yamaha but it was no where near a Factory ride.

My friend Mike Corder! he won two AMA western 4 stroke national titles after he made his return from some serious shitty luck. After he did well in loretta's , he got a ride on the PC kawi team when RC moved up to the 250's. 1st round of SX that year , he snapped both writs in practice and was out almost an entire year. He came back strong a few years ago , and won the 4 stroke titles and di a lot of top 15-20 in nationals , but refused to train at all. he would sit home and not ride at all for amonth and just show up at the local money paying races and then take more time off. I used to get so pissed at him sometimes , because he just wouldn't take it seriously. he's a great dude with a ton of talent....just didn't want to take it to the next level i guess.

Keith Watson, houma louisiana by way of tallahassee florida. the original tallahassee flash. Keith was james stewart fast and i thought he had some yamaha support back in the early 80's.

Keith was tragically killed at Hattiesburg Mx park in mississippi in 1981

Nathan Woods reminds me of Shane Esposito; both good MXers, but found a way better niche racing off road.

Mark Lawrence was pretty good too with Gambetta.

DG Dave Taylor thought would be top 125 guy. Eropkin was real good too.

Wayne Boyer. Can't remember if he was full fac. Suz. or a support rider. Another good one.

A new kid I thought might be good was that Jesse Masterpool....dunno if still racing, but use to see name in World Mini or Ponca/LL results. Know he should be 11 or 12 now.

Went to H.S. with Juan "the Burrito" Benevedez. We used to ride and train together, he was an animal in the training dept. Listend to AC/DC at 120% volume capacity. PC was helping me on the Husky as an Int. and Juan rode the Yamaha. Had Yamaha support until 81 I believe. He got a bike and a parts allowance from Yamaha, but everybody did back then in So Cal if you were a front running Pro. Can Am in 82, maybe 83?, back to Yamaha in 84. His old man would weld his bikes with coat hangers in a jam... More then once I saw his old Dodge van pulled over on the 57 FWY going to Saddleback with the trailer up on blocks fixing wheel bearings on the thing. Juan, Mr. Benevedez, and his brother Anthony would be doing the WWF fight thing and were ready to beat the living daylights out of each other when they go to the track so late. When he made it to the late practice, Juan was so pissed and AMP'd up he had to win that day to pay for the parts on the trailer that broke, let alone the bike. He was a determined rider. I think Sondra said he still comes out to the Glen Helen National every year to watch.

Doug Lange ,now that is a name I have not heard for years.
I knew Doug from back when he was on 80's like 1979ish.

He was also buddies with Currier back in the day.

Aston was already to be a Kawi fac. rider before the accident in '82/'83 I understood.

I put him next to his pal Harrigers name anyways...CYA.....Wink
