Yep should see it this week. We'll see what it looks like when it comes apart.

You’re local to that dealer. Do you work there? I may be bringing it down tomorrow.

The Honda salesman couldn't have been more explicit that my 2017 crf450 came with absolutely no warranty whatsoever as it smoked like a two stroke when I started it for the first time in the parking lot lol. Kudos to ktm for all the bikes they have fixed, the fact the guy even has a chance says alot about the character of that company. Top notch is what it is, years of teeth chattering forks or not lol.

I bought a brand new 144SX back in 2007, had a crank bearing issue, and KTM took care of me no questions asked. I’ve been a strong ambassador for them ever since.

They seem to have customer relations figured out. While nobody expects to have an engine resolved or taken care of, it really shows how much KTM is there for their customers. It’s a huge step towards gaining brand loyal customers.

For me it's not even if they will fix it, it's the fact they want to look at it. They want to potentially learn from the failure. Obviously getting the bikes fixed is awesome.

Now I just wish we had a local KTM dealer, lol.

Ha, even if they weren't going to warranty it before now they almost have to! Good job OP getting your buddy a free engine!

While there is no warranty, a new bike will smoke slightly from both the assembly process, and the anticorrosives the OEM's utilize during the manufacturing process.

This just reinforces my decision to buy another new KTM/Husky tomorrow. Not only are the bikes far superior (and 2 stroke if I want one), but it's stories like this where they act with integrity which means there is literally zero chance of me buying any other brand. It's a complete no brainer. Now I just need to decide which model to go for...

KTM is a safe bet no matter what bike you're buying. Moto, enduro, street. All good stuff from a company that takes pride in what they build.

Here is your problem, he was sitting at the starting gate revving the motor to the moon under zero load, things can go bad during this time and that is the riders responsibility. Unresponsible revving would be the cause.

KTM will absolutely pay for this ,we had 250 F that we race for a whole season and 3rd gear broke in it they replace the whole transmission for me without any trouble. Also had a 300 that the rod broke same thing replaced every single part that was damaged

Yep, always better to idle the bike when the gate drops, especially when I'm launch control mode. That rev limiter is just there for sound also.

I'm curious, have you ever seen a failure that wasn't the customers fault, or is every manufacturer perfect in your eyes?

Here is YOUR problem. You’re an idiot. Did you read the initial post? Can you read? Do you know how the KTM Launch Control works? If you answer “no” to any one of those three questions, figure out how to answer it with a “yes” and come back.

Fully aware of how it works, and have raced for years and tested and built factory components as well. I have not had a bike blow up at the starting gate and the pro's bikes built to the hilt aren't either? Makes you think to yourself, self am I able to rev this bike to the meat of the power without over revving, you say rev limiter, if that is were you IDIOTS are revving to than I am sure you are aware that is way past the meat of the power, just look at the drop off on a dyno and a dyno is under no load and is not real world. And as far as the manufactures fault I am sure it is their fault a lot of the time but most bikes are sold as is so to expect coverage and bashing a company if they don't fix it is acting entitled. If they fix it out of good will great, but they don't owe it to a guy with 42 hrs on his bike. Since we are speaking knowledge of KTM tell me how many recalled KTM parts you have manufactured and sent out to every dealer in the nation because it was a major safety concern and would have taken too long to manufacture new and ship from Austria. We should ask ML512 if he sits there on the gate with the bike bouncing off the rev limiter?

Pretty sure the ktm launch control lowers the Rev limiter to the meat of power band.

It even says "For the Launch Control to function, The throttle must be fully opened at the start." in the manual.

43 hours and people still expect KTM to replace this stuff? Really?!

How deep is the sand on your dyno? Sure a dyno is under a small amount of load but it isn't under real world load conditions, it isn't even close. But hey I am sure you guys have dyno'ed 1000's of engines. Also I would follow the manual to the "T" regarding break in, because the manual knows.

Not me. But I know a dyno simulates load. I agree with you that bringing a 450 to rev limiter on the line is crazy. You’re asking for trouble. I said so early in this thread but someone ripped meso I backed off.

I wouldn’t redline any bike on the starting line while waiting for the gate to drop , particularly one with valves.

But I’m a old timer.

This thread should officially go to the HOF.

Key notes:
*Change your 450 pistons every 10 hours
*idle your bike on the start gate for best results, if you rev it then you WILL blow the motor
*dyno your bike in sand
