I could be wrong, but i vaguely remember Barcia being a "Monster athlete", not just part of the Monster sponsorship of JGR. So maybe his contract with Monster is what is standing in the way of the KTM ride.

If remember right, when Monster came on as a JGR sponsor Barcia and Phil were directly sponsored by them, and Pieck was sponsored through the team deal (he only had the claw on his jersey not a monster helmet).
I remember Phil saying Monster paid him 10 grand to run that claw on his helmet for the year.

I would think it's Red Bull not wanting to be associated with him? He definitely doesn't have the best rep.

I get that but I kind of feel like that's a little different, James was a RedBull guy for a long long time and Barcia's only been a Monster guy for what 3 or 4 years? I honestly didn't think that would stand in the way considering Deano was sponsored by Monster for as long if not longer and he rode for the RedBull KTM last year. They also signed Dungey who was with Rockstar for awhile.

Not trying to argue just kind of surprised that would play a factor.
Bubba linked up with red bull at the end of '05 and monster sponsered kawi in '07. He wasnt a red bull guy for that long.

Sport is run and controlled by energy drinks. I know it is all about money. But if energy drinks decide to pull out of our sport, what happens then?

Hope that insurance companies step in? Instead of Monster/Rockstar/Redbull they'll have Progressive/Allstate/State Farm/Farm Bureau follow suit behind Geico Silly

On this past Monday's Pulp podcast they were saying that Barcia might be staying at JGR but have to ride for allot less money.

Title sponsors of teams in many sports can have a say about athletes being hired, the athletes are the ones that have to represent the image of that sponsor. If the sponsor doesn't want that athlete in their brand or representing them in any way, then they can leave or ask the team to not hire them. Why would a sponsor spends upwards of millions of dollars to work with an athlete they don't want? Btw, I'm not stating this as a direct comment as to what may or may not have happened in Barcia's case, I'm just stating this as an overview of why a large sponsor has say in contracts for a team sport where they're sponsoring the team.

Let's look at the stats here:

- Tickle has gotten podiums in the last 2 seasons, both indoors and out.
- in '17 on the same bike, Barcia's best SX finish was an 8th
- Barcia has had lots of chances with superior equipment and extended support, while Broc has had to go on deals year-to-year with '17 being a last minute effort by RCH
- KTM has a history of seriously whiffing on their secondary riders... Dean Ferris, Wilson, J Hill. All great riders but had injuries and other issues, then went on to success after leaving. That has to sting. So you have to think Tickle's predictability as a top 5 and occasional podium guy played into this.

To be fair Barcia has been injured a lot last few years. Can't compare Tickle to a healthy Barcia.

C'mon ML, this is exactly what happened in this case and you know that. Nothing wrong with saying it, it's not you who made the decision.

If Matthes gets his info from Vital and Vital gets its info from Matthes...then who is really get the information from?

Classic egg vs chicken scenario.

That all said....is JS7 still a RedBull athlete? Would Monster take him on?

Why? Red Bull has a standard, Barcia doesn't meet it. Not sure why Red Bull would feel it's a diss by Matthes. Barcia parties on the otherhand....

Ps. Keep calling people out Matthes. The PC world we live in blows nuts.

Dean wasn't a monster guy, it was a team sponsor.

Barcia is a true monster guy. Like James was with RedBull.

Either way something is up, not sure why they said no to him. I don't think Barcia is worth what he is getting paid by JGR so hopefully he just stays there and JGR gets him for next to nothing to recoup some of their money.

Barcia has no contract with any team at the moment. So his 'worth' is open for interpretation at the moment...

Millsaps to Yamaha "could" make sense (although he is accident prone...). On the flipside don't be surprised to see Bogle at Yamaha also. I know Reed has recently tested a KTM, however, my money is still on him going to JGR.

I guess another question is, is Peick re-signed with JGR for 2018? if not we "may" see Reed and Bogle at JGR together. Peick could very well end up at the Rocky Mountain team or Motoconcepts.

Pure speculation (part of it anyways)

That doesn't make much sense to me. If Hill was going to defend his 17 SX 250 title, why would you not do that on a Procircuit Kawi?

Been used to KTM announcing Decoster's contract renewal in the Spring ('13,'15). Nothing this year. Is it much ado about nothing? Or is The Man stepping away?

Maybe after his performance outdoors he wasn't asked back?

More than likely though it came down to $$$. I'm sure Suzuki is wanting to have a top caliber SX rider for their newish 250 team.

Mitch wants to keep Hill, Savagty and AC so it has to be the 450 side of things. Plus he gets to keep the monster sponsorship now that its factory suzuki with no energy drink sponsor (unless they stay with JGR) which wouldn't make a difference because his brother Josh handles the athletes.

But thats only if he leaves PC. I did notice in one of RCs instagram stories his PC bike was at the farm so....

I wonder if that JGR suzuki 250 will be up to par to the PC Kawi. I remember hearing that some of the parts they had on Nicolettis 250 this year had "Stroupe45" on them from 2010.

They wont. The 2018 RMZ 250 is still the same bike as before. By far the slowest in the class.

I think this will end up just like with KTM but worse. I'm sorry but i have very little faith in Hill. Yes he is fast and talented but this outdoor season has shown that the issues that he had when he went pro are still there.

Like Matthes says, a 250 regional title is almost nothing if you can't do something with it.

If it is about a 450 ride, I feel a legitimate shot at back to back titles with PC in 2018 would open way more doors than just JGR for 2019.

Suzuki 250 slow? Seewer and Lawrence in the GPs think different about that! Kind of weird they have good Suzuki's in the GPs and suck in the US..

I think both Seewer and Lawrence would love to be on a factory KTM/Husky.
