As soon as I watched the video I knew some people would jump on the, "Big James is spending his kids money like water" train.

Big James played a major role in his kids success. I know if I was James, I would WANT to give my dad the world.

Personally, my dad is completely responsible for my success, and it KILLS me...every freaking day, that the monetary success came after he passed away. It's the way he raised his kids, and it's the values he instilled in us, that played a huge role in my success and my brothers.

If he was still here today, I would give him the world. My mom played an equally large role, and I put her before anyone these days.

I think people just love to take jabs anytime they can...especially when it involves the Stewart family.

Put yourself in James' shoes. If you had the financial ability to spoil the living sh#t out of your dad, would you? Yes.

Also, if James was smart with his money, especially the contract/gear money he made in the glory days, he is just fine. And will be.

Let them live.

...and go call your parents and tell them how much you love them instead of worrying about what the Stewart family is doing. One day you won't have that luxury.
I totally agree with you. It's great that James can provide all of these nice things for his Dad. That's not what some of us are talking about at all.

I would love to provide nice things for my parents and it's great that James has the money to do that. Props to him. Not hating at all. He's earned his money and can spend how he wants.

I think you need to go back and re-read some of the comments. The issue is that Big James gives basically no credit to his son for providing these things. And maybe that's just more personality and relationships. Not knocking him. I just find it a bit bizarre. I guess when you have as much money, toys and etc like big james does maybe you lose a little perspective.

If it were me, and I suspect if it were you as well, and your kid had purchased all of those things in that video for you, that you would have a hard time talking about those tools and toys more then your son who gave them to you.

Look at it that way, and it's fair enough, I guess.

Has 'Big James' had another business than his oldest son? Prior to Jame's money making?

It's a question(s).

You'll find most top riders had fairly successful, middle class parents, prepared to back their child(ren) to the hilt - whilst it's not the most expensive sport, it does take a bit of money to do it, and many riders have parents willing to back them in their sport, in any way they can. There must be a trail of tears with so many families whose kids haven't made it.

I've never seen any reference to Big James having a business / farm etc, whilst James came through the sport.. Perhaps he had such a thing, but it's not been noted. He's living large through his oldest boy, and good on him, as he would have played a major part in Jame's, and Mookie's success - but that Snap On video seems to make out that he had success as a high end racer, himself. And that, I've never heard about.

Mookie - well he's been provided for by his brothers earnings, largely, and, his own earnings from the sport, would be the cherry on the top of things now. I guess he'd be a contributor to the compound now..

The thing I noticed, with so many successful sports people, is how so many blow their millions away. We've seen things like Grant's mum , and I'm sure there's been other relatively high level riders that have ended up less than comfortably off, but we've yet to see the complete bankruptcy of a Major rider. It's going to happen, as quite a few riders, like so many other sportsmen / women, don't have much more to them than their sporting talent. And there are so many vultures ready to take from them.

I wasn't replying directly at anyone in particular...more so the comments that are sure to come.

Also, they probably shot several hours of footage that was edited down to that clip. Big James might have thanked his son 3,582 times, but that was all removed. I'd bet he is very thankful for his son, as James is for his dad. Willing to bet their relationship is rock solid.

TX, by your deduction, everything you own is paid for by the guy you work for.

Do you think Big James and Sonya don't work? Who do you think they work for?

Guaranteed they spend more actual hours working than James and Malcolm ever did together. It's just behind the scenes.

Stewart's def didn't come from money. I would love to dig up an old video I saw back in the day that talked about his dad scraping up money just to pay for entry fees. It was really good.

Anyway, I hope James was smart with his earnings. If he was, that money can "work" for him and provide for that family for the rest of their lives.

Hope James is happy and enjoying being a dad, willing to do anything for his child...just like Big James did for him.

I can relate to Big James on one thing. My favorite tool is also my Snap-on 3/8 cordless impact. That thing was the best $300 I have spent on a tool truck in a looooooong time.

Big James use to pick up pop cans & let the rent slide to pay for Jr to race. Both his mom & dad worked double shifts. They earned it for sure.

This exactly. Those two worked their ass off so James could race.

It is possible a couple things:

1) James doesn't want him to give him credit.

2) James gave him a lump sum plus rent every year for the use of the facility plus some money for helping with his training and Big James invested that money wisely. So now really has his own money to invest. Their money guy used to be my money guy when I lived in Lakeland, he's a smart guy and not someone who has to steal from his clients. The guy is an investment guy for some really big business people not sports people. Back in the day he used to ride.

MDM, this is probably the video you're remembering. And yes, they came from nothing. It was hard work and persistence, as it is with any of the guys that make it to the top.

In a shocking turn of events, a Stewart thread/vid about tool boxes has once again turned into a shit show of speculation and assumption about their finances, family dynamics, physical condition, and now cows - I wonder if they sell their cattle; and if so, if Big James tells the buyers that it was all made possible by his son.

That was it. Thanks. His parents did whatever they could to help him get to this level.

James was there. He knows what mom and dad did. I'd give them the world too.

Look at the bigger picture.
Malcolm said the internet will go crazy when people hear what James Jr. is doing in 2018.
Snap On would make a great title sponsor.
They didn't buy all those boxes and tools, some maybe, but that was a promotional video, Snap On brought that stuff to the compound and set it up for the video?
Many are trying to get in to the moto tool business, might be time for Snap On to shut them all down and do a team?
Hurry up 2018!

if I had the cash I would buy my direct family what ever they wanted. But millions of dollars worth of tools is crazy. How can you possibly use that much stuff. 50 impact guns in that one drawer, he might have a problem.

Quality post. I'm surprised you beat ML or GuyB to the punch.
I cant believe 99% of vital took this at face value and assumed a cheesy Snap-On garage video series was allowed access to the most secretive moto family's compound. Just for giggles.

I never knew much about big James, except the typically negative things in the internet. But now I'm starting to believe the factory ECU thing is more credible than it appears! Not a reason for JS7 to not race IMO but but James Sr seems very credible and sharp.

What a tool box and garage setup Cool

This is the truth. When both parents have passed away, you are on your own. And it hurts every single time you want to call and say hi.

When I see the products of the Stewarts' success in motocross, I get a warm feeling. This sport made it all possible. JS7's mom used to work at a fast food restaurant from what I remember. It is a classic American success story! Work hard, take chances and never give up and look what can happen.
