This is my first post so take it with a grain of salt, but I seriously believe 6D helmets (or at least their design) should be required in professional racing. After recently smacking off a tree racing a Jday, literally bending my handguard to the point where it is up against the clutch mount (cycra probends), breaking my collarbone, and (not doctor checked) almost tearing my LCL and MCL, my head is completely fine. Sure I got a loud crack and my ears were ringing, but I forked over the $500 for a 6D helmet 3 years ago after getting a massive concussion on a DH bike, and can assure you my brain is fine after bouncing off the tree. Having seen James stewarts final crash over and over again, and really missing seeing him at the races, I strongly believe that had he been wearing a 6D helmet, he would still be racing. Just look at how hard some of the 6D riders have smacked their heads off the ground and raced next moto (zach bell for example) I just don't see why we're still allowing full foam helmets to "protect" the pros when basically a concussion proof helmet exists.

Hey OP, if indeed the 6D technology was proven superior through extensive independent testing conducted by a sanctioning body that was out to set higher standards for equipment riders must use, then i suppose it wouldn't be so bad to see a new requirement imposed regarding a certain type of helmet construction. Some might find it refreshing if new standards continued to roll out regarding various safety equipment, if indeed there was ongoing testing with data showing some type of superior protection. Someone mentioned the liability aspect of requirements of this type being imposed, and there may very well be an issue there, but I am also just barely still cognizant enough after banging my head for a lifetime to remember that the "non profit/ for profit" sanctioning bodies we all deal with in this sport do not put dollars in the direction of such independent studies regarding any type of protective gear that I know of. There are of course the Snell and DOT standards that have been around forever and may be a requirement in some or all forms of 2 wheel racing, but now that you bring up said topic I am actually curious what the current requirements are from the different sanctioning bodies today. In any event, these types of discussions do indeed have value if for no other reason than the awareness of where the sport is currently on said standards. I believe we could go put on a 20 year old helmet and line up on the gate at some of these big "nationals" that are held and probably be seen as using acceptable protective gear. (I know my 15 yr old Arai doesnt get any scrutiny. ).. Maybe thats just how this sport 'evolves'. We should shut up now so that the dicks and balls can get back to their struggle for position and you and I can go back to knowing as little as possible about the ongoing efforts to increase the standards of required safety equipment in a sport that has perhaps the worst reputation ever among general consumers for being extremely dangerous and hazardous to ones health. Hell, you would think there might be a driving force behind improved safety standards that came from organizations supported by the manufacturers of the machines in an effort to create an "improved safety" culture that might drive popularity of the usage of these machines. Anyhow like I said we should shut up now because you hit your head on a tree and spoke up about your experience of using a certain product and suggesting that the product is good enough to be required. I cant believe youd come on here with that kind of shit. I mean hell js7 isnt even done yet bro!! And "Linkeegle and Hedges" are dueling for fucktard of the year right now!!!!

Nobody told him not to look into advancement in this particular subject area just that the anecdotal evidence of him hitting his head on a tree does not equal it being required by all professionals in our sport. But thanks for trying to bring the butt hurt to another level.

Aren't there other helmet companies using the same(or similar) type design as 6D now?

Maybe I've misunderstood, but isn't that what the MIPS systems are in today's helmets?

I'm glad you had a great experience with the 6D helmet. But using that to make a jump that it should be mandatory for everyone? That's like saying because you won a race on a (insert your brand of choice), everyone should have to ride one.

No, MIPS is a different system. Bell, 6D, Leatt, etc. are all taking different approaches than the MIPS system. I don't think the OP has done much research into these different helmets.

Yes I think everyone should support a proactive American company like 6d. I'm done with any other brand and now will only buy from a company where I can physically walk up and shake the owners hand and that's 6d.

I honestly back up the OP. I had a nasty get off the other day where I nearly tore my ACL, separated my shoulder, broke my femur, and snapped my collarbone in 4 places.

Luckily I didnt get hurt in the crash though, so I have my 6D helmet to thank for that. If I hadnt been wearing it, I could have also nearly broken my ankle, both my wrists, and cracked some ribs as well.

But like I said I didnt get hurt in the crash so Im OK.

He made a leap yes. He went from I feel it protected my head so well, to everyone should be required to use the 6D (or similar technology).. In conversation that might be seen as over bolstering the point about how good something is, or it might be just good ole fashioned communist mentality, not really up to me to decide. Its not what "nobody told him not to do" as you say but more about taking what he said, turning it to shit, and only shit, acknowledging advancements made by a helmet company, then shutting it down altogether because its not "perfect". You took his experience and what he expressed about it and more or less hovered your butt hurt ass over it until the shit dribbled down on it. Thats what you chose to do with it. If you feel that is productive and non-dickhead like then well, lets hope those who feel and act the same are few in numbers, although I did notice a few who did chose your path, probably further encouraging you. My post just gave you a second chance at doing the same thing. Its the old, as long as you quickly prove everyone else's statements make them an idiot, then you are back up top sittin on the jacked up 4 by 4 brain bling. Meanwhile we can all sit and admire you or take what he said and attempt to either find,......... OR add value to it. Just keep doing your best and us dumbasses will try to learn from you. Hopefully none of this deters future contributions from those who feel a product served them very well in protection.

One would have to be a moran to actually propose the mandating use of a particular brand of helmet..... Whistling

After reading this, I can assure you that your head is NOT fine.

And since you have an obvious concussion, I'll let it slide this time.
hahaha I was thinking the exact same thing, I think you hit your head harder then you realize BRO. Literally zero knowledge of helmet technology but they're the most superior helmet ever.

Glad I'm getting off easy on my first post, or should I say first roast. Sheesh Sad

I must say the fit is not the most comfortable, and they're heavy as hell and much bigger than any other helmet. But I still stand by their tech after eating shit on a downhill bike in my old mx helmet (suomy) and getting ko'd, horrible concussion, and a laceration in my eyebrow that needed 11 stitches in 3 layers. I will never buy anything other than a 6D (until other companies adopt their system), and I am terrified while skiing in my smith helmet despite it having "mips", it still feels like just a shell around my head rather than an actual "helmet" that prevents concussions.
No two crashes are the same, don't bother comparing one to another. I have hit my head and got concussions in one brand of helmet while other times I have not. The helmet is not a defining factor. I've run Klim, Fox V4, Shoei, Suomy, AGV, Airoh, etc.

You're taking the humor way too seriously. The OP jumped the shark in his original post with, quite frankly, outlandish claims. This was never a platform to discuss the advances made in recent years with new technology in different helmets. Most all of us that ride would love for a helmet to be proven by independent, third party experts to be the safest overall so we'd know which one to buy if it was in our budget. Unfortunately, we don't have that but I'd love for someone with the resources (money) to do it.

True, you got me figured out. Speed and heads hitting the ground hasnt changed much.Truth is there's not much to take seriously on the topic since helmet technology advancements are minimal and happening so slow its as if they arent happening at all. At least not in any real world measurable way. I was indeed just busting the balls of those busting the balls of others and it has brought you and I together. I was pretty much argueing for the sake of argueing out of boredom. Toyin around shall we say. Being a smartass to the smart asses. Cant ride right now so my specialty is being a dick at least until im off the crutches and can do something productive. Ive got my superstitions with helmet choice. It has to do with side flex, which the helmet pros say you want a certain amount of incorporated. I argue and I dont like much of just because one of the worst knockouts i have had was with a helmet that had a ton of side flex (in the cheek area) But i like a pretty stiff shell from any of the best known brands, and from there hell were all just going on luck anyway. Arai calms my nerves but i cant afford.em anymore, so maybe ill be a 6d hat wearer one day. Peace, and watch out for trees while of course always on the gas!! Im not near the dick i pretend to be on vital, just trying to keep up.

Helmet threads and oil threads. Like smacking a beehive. Glad the OP likes safe gear. We all do. We're all talking theory until an independent testing lab sends us the printout.
That said, I own a 6d, I like the theory. Id also own a Bell Flex, or any dual or triple density EPS with Mips.

I'm glad you brought this up. I recently won a race on my 2017 KTM 450XC-F. If someone doesn't ride this bike, they're obviously concussed and need to be deleted from the forum until they have come to their senses.

Side note, 6D helmets are nice and cool deal that it protected the OP's noggin'. That said, buy the best you can afford and make sure you have insurance before throwing a leg over the bike ... the 2017 KTM 450XC-F. If it's something else, just take it to the local junkyard to be repurposed.

6D helmets are good helmets, so are Shoei, etc. I may get one as my next helmet and one for my son. I'm intrigued as to why 6D isn't making football helmets with all the stuff going on with concussions in that sport. Seems like a bigger market.
Not buying the 6D hype! I have seen kids wearing 6D's crash at the BMX track get knocked out cold.
