This whole career number crap is stupid. Just go back to running what you earn year to year.
I get the feeling there's some mass confusion on how the system works.
Unjustly? They retired his number for several years after RC hung up the helmet.

Obviously rules change over 12 years but for some of the past champs they didn't have a large selection of single digit permanent numbers to choose from after they won so they kept their 2 digit number for sentimental reasons.
There's only 2 current permanent numbers that were earned in the 450 class. Reed #22 and Roczen #94.
Other than that the original permanent numbers of McGrath #2, Larocco #5, and Albertyn #7 were earned with 250/450 premiere championships only. When the permanent numbers were selected they went by number of titles earned, with premiere class titles having more weight than 125 titles if there were ties.
Every other permanent number has been from 125/250F national championships. With how 450 titles are harder to achieve, you end up with 250 national champions having numbers 2,3,4, and 6, and with numbers 5 and 7 currently "retired" there are no current single digit 450 champions, although Eli or Blake could change that by August. (Or Anderson or Musquin take the title and take a single digit).
While we're at it, 250 points should not count the same as 450 points towards national numbers.
I remember it was 5 years....thats a long time.
I agree with 226 - savings numbers / putting numbers on hold after a guy retires is just ridiculous.
Zach should take #8 if he wins, IMO.
Here's my system:
- Run what you earn. 1-99 in each class(black/white background) with #100 being the alternate to #13.
- Riders moving from the 250's into the 450 class run 101 thru 199 depending on what they last earned in the 250 class(example: Webb would be running the 101 this year and Davalos would be running the 112)
- Current/Former champs can run their initials instead of numbers if racing in the class they are current/former champs of)
-Visiting foreigners of standing(points holders in the GP's etc.) can pick a remaining(unassigned) two-digit or available number from 200-999.
Simple.

Yeah, I know----"but NASCAR..." Not buying into it.
FELD won't even let riders sell branded gear at races, so what is the point?
Plus, I remember Hannah running 39, 2, 100, etc. and each number tells a story about that year.
Please don't go back to running whatever number they earned, they do it here in Canada and I still have no idea who is who
Post a reply to: If Wacko wins, will he take the 5, 7, 8 or 9?
