Has a rider in the last five years made you want to buy the bike they ride?

Not really. I am on a budget, so that is a bigger deciding factor. I also ride 2 strokes, so there's that. Ken Roczen made me want to buy a 96 CR250.

Had a 96 cr250 in 2008. Very, very good bike. I'd go as far as to say it handled better than a friend's yz250x .......More motor too. The low end on the yz250x is probably better. The 96 had a trick shock and AOS forks with gold valves though, to be fair. I kept the 02 cr250, and I often wonder if that was a mistake letting that 96 go.

I must admit Villopoto and Tomac have both made me want a KX450 but I still bought the 450 I could get the best deal on so I ride Honda.

Not an individual rider but I like to buy from companies where I get the impression pro racing means something to them and they are fair to their dealer network.
I don't ride 450s but I think Roczen winning outdoors in such dominant fashion makes me believe the platform is still competitive even though it may not have seen big changes in quite a few years now

As posted above I really like what Sean Collier is doing with his big, bad ass K5....

So I went out and bought this in January, bearing in mind I haven't raced a solo motorcycle seriously in 5 years

I've owned 2 kx 250fs since 2011. Bought both low hours, both had PC pipes, the latest (2013), has a hinson clutch and a boyeson super cooler. I would credit that 100% those sales 100% to the PC team.

Ronny Mac almost incited me into buying a honda, but I came to my seances.

Do it! I have a 98 CR250 just like Ronnie Mac's. So much fun riding an old two stroke that you just don't give a shit about.

Paid £1000 for mine, spent very little on it and had it 18 months before the piston broke and destroyed the crank back in December, I'm planning to rebuild it and upgrade a bunch of stuff but I'll be doing it slowly over time, not dropping a fortune on it just now.

Funny thing is it rode back to the pickup like that. Didn't cut out on me just ran like a bag of shit for four hours while we were trail riding, I switched it off at the truck and then it wouldn't turn over 10 minutes later when we were setting off again.

Buying something because a person gets payed to promote a product is a horrible way to navigate the market as a consumer.

I make decisions based on my own research of the product.

Rv Def made me want a Kx450f or even a kx250f. He smoked everyone wide open, sideways thru the corners, roosting away. Was so aggressive.

Absolutely. Growing up watching MC on Factory Hondas was just awesome. Watching Steinke on that 125 was the motivation I needed to buy a 95 CR125 and restore it.

My 250F is a clone of Seely/Roczen 17CRF450.

I like having clean bikes....and I'm slow as hell.

Albee inspired me to buy my 2000 RM 250. Still my current ride.
If I was in the market I would have to go with a CRF cause KRoc made it look so good. Or a TC 250 cause I'm a Two stroke guy.

Nope. When I see a pro rider on a particular bike, I know it's far different than a bike off the showroom & his skill level compared to mine is just as different.

I think it's less about seeing Dungey or tomac and buying because of them and more about general awareness. I don't think many are buying new huskys just because it's Anderson, but because they are at the races and visible now.

No, but results across the board make me feel steel frames are proving overall superior.

That said, I buy what I like.
the RMZ 450, in the last 10 years, since its 2008 inception has won 4 mx and sx titles, kawi has 6 and ktm has 4.

I feel that steel may be better but all the riders who won have always been title contenders anyways.

that being said I would be very interested in the latest generation of KTMs

I don't care what bike a rider is on. I love the way Suzuki's turn so thats what I buy. I am too slow to give a damb about the lack of high speed stability, and add more sag if needed to counteract it.

No, but I'm partial to the KTM/Husqvarna brands based on the way they continued to support different racing series/riders during the downturn when the other manufacturers bailed. Especially in the off-road scene.

I'd wager to say that Dungey has sold enough KTM's to make paying his large salary worth while. Look how popular KTM's are in MX since Dungey has been putting them on the podium. Yes, I'd definitely buy a KTM if I was looking for a new bike.

Rider? not so much.

Watching Erzberg and Romaniacs vids sold me on KTM though.

I ride Enduro and Hare Scrambles, not Moto. Too old for Moto.

I can't help but buy what is constantly up front, as a 40+ Vet B I need every edge I can get... Not getting younger or faster on my own.
