Not your typical race recap interview! Weege does an awesome job getting some stories out of Dungey. What a guy, that Dungey.

Very cool. Moral of the story, encourage good habits and competitiveness to children. Definitely taking notes for when I have a little one.

Super cool guy, we don't get to see this side of Ryan too often.
He's definitely one of the greatest, much respect.

Great video! I think time off in the winter is probably something often overlooked as a positive.

Outstanding, good to see a one on one interview without being pressured, the guy is a class act and very humble. I remember a video where Dungey's teacher told him he will never make a living riding dirt bike's, lol. He could probably have any job he desire's after he retires from moto, but I think he would be just as happy putting in the final touches in the concrete business with his dad. Thanks for the vid.

It's strange. I've always lived in the Midwest so I know all about the winters and the breaks. It's funny though... After a few months on the couch of watching personal film and SX races, by the time the ground thaws... you are so ready to go.

I still hate the winters but every season we'd get the bikes out from storage and break in the new engines from the winter overhaul. And I just feel like the feeling you get from that is something a lot of people don't get to experience.

You get to spend 4+ months staring at your bike and rebuilding it the exact way you want it and you dream of soft ground and non freezing temperatures. You picture all the tracks you ride at and picture how you can hit certain sections better and sit on the bike on its center stand and run through virtual laps in your head. Then come May, you get to kick it over and wind through the gears again for what feels like the first time! It always resparks the love that hasn't left but has been pushed to the side due to Mother Nature.

And one of the coolest things as well is that you usually come back faster, even after months on the couch. You dream of it so bad that once it's finally a reality again, you find more gumption and hold it on longer than before.

I have a love-hate relationship with the Midwest but I will always hold the long winters inbetween the MX season close.

Good stuff. Thanks RacerX. How appropriate that his career number and his alarm clock story go hand in hand.

I enjoyed that, thanks for the link! I don't think anybody will ever question his work ethic!

I really enjoyed that even though I'm not a fan of him on a bike.

Hearing him talk about working with his dad is kinda funny. I've read a couple of places that he wants to go work for his father's or brother's business once he's done racing. I doubt it'll be a shoveling job exclusively, but you can tell he just likes being active with his hands.

I remember working for my dad in elementary school. I was in charge of handing him tools so he didn't have to go up and down the ladder. I remember transitioning from that to actually being allowed to strip some wire and trim out a device. I was so excited even though it was just low voltage work.

Awesome interview. All racing, riding, professionalism bullshit aside, Dungey seems like he'd be a cool dude to hang out with. Not often you get to see a glimpse of these guys personalities outside of racing.

I went to Minasooota one spring to ride for 3 weeks, and experienced just that.

Season was just starting, everyones bikes were absolutely pristine, people were faster than I ever imagined for not riding winters, and extremely passionate and motivated as it was a fresh start

I sat exactly 3 months on the couch and totally regret it. Taking a break is one thing, sitting on the couch for 3 months sucks. Still maintaining a base is absolutely key to success. Stay in the gym in one form or another. I'm paying the price right now.

Yep, seems like a very likable dude. He also seemed nervous not talking racing, but talking about himself...very humble, and seemed really respectful of his Dad too.

This interview reminded me of why I like that guy so much. It's a shame we don't get to see more of who these guys really are...seems like such a down to earth guy for a hall of famer!
