Word on the street is that he is really riding a Yamaha (said he preferred it) that the team has disguised as a KTM. Everyone knows that if anything happens negative while riding one, its 100% the bikes fault, always.

Dungey does appear to be riding more conservative like pre-Aldon years.

He definitely looks off: weird to see him have to go to a semi. But, he's in a great place to grab the championship and wrap up an amazing career, so it makes sense to cruise it home and not get hurt.

Protecting his points lead........check
Hidden injury/illness.........maybe
Roczens crash in his head...............maybe
Last years injury in his head..............maybe
Others raising their game, definitely. MM and ET are not paid to ride around behind Dungey and no one stays at the top for ever. Carmichael went out on top but didn't push it until he started getting beat.
Things change. Likely another changing of the guard.

Well, that's not something the State Department tells dependents when the battle occurred over the wrong line on some map

Age, injury, too many outside commitments? One could speculate all kinds of things. The thing that is apparent to me is that he doesnt ride with the same intensity as he has in years past. He is still fast and all that, but it seems when he tries to ride to the edge he needs to, he is making small mistakes and so he backs it down just a little. He is losing points and I think he knows his situation very well. I dont think he wants to cruise to a championship in 3rd or 4th position, and not have the ability to turn it up and win. I think he is doing what he can and trying to win but he is not at the level Musquin and Tomac are right now. I do not think everything is working for Dungey right now, as they have in the past.

It's this, and his own crash last year at Thunder Valley. I wondered what that crash would do to him mentally. I remember way back when Marty Smith got injured, I think it was a broken hip, and did not come back the same rider. He later went on to talk about it, saying he had had a pretty injury free career, and then the big crash, and he was never able to get to that place mentally where he wasn't worried about the "what if".

If the rumors are true that this is his last year, thinking of his crash, Roczens crash, and a retired life just waiting for him, maybe the realization that he is not invincible is holding him back, just that little bit. There's no doubt he is super talented, and is always top three, but there is an edge that's missing. When have we ever seen someone run him down, and pass him? I've seen it more than I care to this year.

It's pretty hard to hold a level of riding like the past two years for very long.

16 points up with 9 rounds left is no time to get comfortable, especially since he doesn't seem to have anything for Tomac OR Musquin.

Anyone who claims he's cruising to a title at this point needs to get their head checked. 3 more 3rds and this thing's pretty much tied up.

He was off the pace for sure, even with the body language, he looked bored,

He missed his marks, was coming up short on a lot and the dragon back section was making him look like a b rider.

some corners he was fighting the bike, it seemed to want to push away from his line choice...

He really needed to keep between Tomac and Marvin and he didn't. He knew MM was coming and didn't adjust. Not sure what that tells me but it says something.

Granted Marvin was dialed, if MM had had a better start he would have been battling with Eli IMO.

VF is very tough to pass, very unpredictable and I'm sure RD was measuring his distance from that guy. He could collect you at any time, chaos swirls all around VF.

People who think it's the same Dungey are nuts. There's no way he'd be riding this conservative on purpose.

Go back to last year when he had a 40 point lead in the second half of the series, and how hard and precise he was riding to beat Roczen when he didn't really need to.

no what was in his head at the conference was that the question annoyed the living crap out of him, and he got emotional because of the bullshit around he only gets the title because Roczen isnt in the race for it .... I am willing to bet he wins next weekend and all the experts here will look as stupid as they do right now ...and if he doesnt win well then I stand humbly corrected, still not as though he is finishing mid pack like other top riders eh?

Sure. He was about 2 inches from an over the bars adventure that could have easily ended his season.

Dungey has a point lead. I bet he's willing to admit to himself and everyone else that Marvin, Tomac, and previously Ken Roczen have more raw speed than he does. Since those guys are down in points, they have to be in front of Dungey every single race from here on out. You know how hard that is to do against Dungey (worst finish a 4th over two seasons). It's already pretty damn hard to get a podium. Dungey is fighting a war of attrition.

Dude no one is saying he can't win, literally no one would be surprised to see him win next weekend. So far he just hasn't shown any fight, something is missing and it's pretty obvious.

And for Dungey, getting passed by Musquin and ending up third may as well be finishing mid-pack.

Or maybe, this is the new normal and you guys are just having a hard time recognizing it and accepting it. Or, maybe he ate taco bell before the main. Or could be he wore the vikings gear and choked just like the vikings. Nobody knows except for Dungey what is going on. Hes still blazing fast. He still is in a good position to win it all. I wouldnt jump to any conclusions for another few rounds. If his riding remains like this, then either he has a bad strategy or he is wanting to finish the series healthy and damn the title.

This....it wasn't caught on video. He just about ate shit over the first dragons back . Saved it but ended up off the track. That is why he suddenly lost a few seconds to Tomac and why Marv was suddenly right on him. He talked about it at the press conference

How about he's doing what Dungey does and that's race a dirt bike well. All the "he's not himself and something's up with him crowd" is the same as it ever was, if he was winning by 20 seconds in each round and had 30 or more point leed by now you'd still be pissed about it.

Thinking of the end goal And when Tomac has a bad off and ends his championship run everyone will say how Dungey has lucked into another title

RD is about consistency he has never had the raw speed to hang with the faster guys and obviously still doesn't.
Not bashing him he knows where his strength is and keeps to his game plan there still a lot of racing to go so i don't see him concerned at this point.
Who are these faster guys you are talking about. You know he won like 10 rounds last year right?

I'm sorry i thought this thread was about this year my bad.

For this year the first two rounds it was Roczen now Tomac certainly has more speed and Marvin is showing hes got the speed to run RD down pass him and pull away.
I'm sorry RD is a great rider but he does not possess the raw speed of others but is more consistent. He is aware of that and knows when he needs to push right now i don't think he is concerned too much.

Agree with this.

If he plays it smart he gets another SX title. He's got a nice points lead. No need to screw it up. Just ease it home.

I think it's his last year and he has a very good chance to go out on top. No need to push anything and fuck it up. Steady as she goes for Captain Dungey.

Let's say Dungey does retire next year. Tomac, Roczen m, or musquin will not match his titles. Stamp that!

Post a reply to: so .... whats wrong with dungey?
