I see it as a great thing (if true) that he is walking away because with the knowledge we have on concussions now, it should encourage him to retire. Seeing the results of concussions from contact sports and the horrible result with Dave Mirra earlier this year.... walk away Bubba. He needs to enjoy his family and time. Had a great career and I hope he stays around in some way, but hopefully this is a new chapter. I wish him the best!
Well said.

I too wish him the best and sad if the rumors are true. Hopefully he will remain a part of the sport in some way.

Sure hope not but if it's true, I wish James the very best and thankful to witness him in his prime.

If he doesn't have the will to prepare any more, then going out to race is a bad move. Congrats to him for being honest with himself, and for showing us how to ride a 125! His speed and technique revolutionized our sport. At his peak, no one has shown more pure speed, until someone else does.

If he does retire at A1 I think it really shows his true character (in a bad way). Doing these videos whining and crying about his hands hurting and not being in shape, and all the other BS then say I'm not done I'm coming back for my fans just shows he's gutless. He's a drama queen and it would prove he purposely lied and waited until the season started to quit to avoid any fan backlash during the off season.

I only have one remotely inside source, but I heard the same thing.

I honestly think at this point, that entire camp should shift gears and focus their energy on Malcolm. He is at a crossroads that I kind of feel loyalty led him to. That loyalty should start paying it back, not worry about James and let him enjoy himself, and get Malcolm moving forward and back on track. I am boggled by how quickly Malcolm went from winning a title, to where he is now. He is going to need all of the help he can get.

If true , I'm bummed , as I would of liked to of seen him try one more season.

Either way , it's been a great career James , and thank you for all those awesome rides!

I thought he was never going to ride that Suzuki again!

The guy pretty much reinvented how to be fast on a bike. I don't get where this would be a "tragic" way to end his career? It'd be cool to see him do commentary stuff for the races, he's got the personality for it.

Don't beat yourself up, big guy...there are still a long line of people from that "other SX website of a few years ago" around here, that are still butt hurt and want me to screw up too. I'd say you've been right more than you've been wrong over the time I've been around here.

I will give you two good reasons.

#1. We are human. When something is good, it is in our nature to want more. Even if he isn't winning, he is awesome to have on the starting line so his retirement is obviously tragic to anybody who enjoys watching him race.

#2. A rider of his caliber should be going out with two guns drawn and fireworks going off in the background. He should be saying "I am retiring at the end of 20XX". He shouldn't get going off with "Well shit y'all, we haven't got a ride, let's just call it an end right here". THAT is tragic for someone with a legacy like his.

I don't really want to be THAT guy, but "official" and "rumor" kind of clash.

This right here...

WADA stole 2 years of racing from JS7 and the fans.

Sure James messed up, but that penalty was not fair in any way.

Didn't this happen in 2014? I gotta give it to him. This guy gets more attention doing nothing than most do winning.

What a disgraceful way to go out and as said above gutless. He was never the FMOTP. That title goes to RC and it shows how he went out. On top and in style. Stewart could never beat RC when they raced together. He never gave a shit about his "fans" as can be seen in his actions so I don't understand how he has fanboys on here to begin with. He was great........when he was 259 and on a 125 since people love 125 two smokes. After that and he was so inconsistent it was hard to watch. I probably wouldn't feel so strongly if their weren't a few new threads everyday filled with people providing excuses for him. Shit gets old. I will be glad when he is gone so we can talk about riders who are actually relevant.

I agree, as a fan I lost a lot of respect for Stewart during his L&M days - anyone remember the tedious yearly "will he, wont he race" outdoors saga? Dunno, for me as a fan I was over him then. Any time there was any drama he hides under a rock and goes into his media black out mode. Always thought he treated the fans with an aura of distain.

Because he accounts for 30% of the ticket sales. The supercross big wigs are providing him with a golden parachute to ensure he waits until right before A1. I learned that here on Vital.
Hey bud I said that and you're taking any comment was way out of context. I'm pretty sure I said when he was absent they (Feld) had noticed a 20% drop in sales If I said 30% I miss typed it by mistake .... It may be less than 20% I can't remember but I know his absence has an effect on attendance to the tune of something like that and I heard that more than a few times on the pulpmx show and that data was supposedly from a conversation Matthes had with some one at Feld and looks like davistld01 heard similar .... the percentage Swing amount in sales drop was around there but I didn't portray myself as knowing the exact amount.

I was very careful and made sure to note that my thoughts were a "what if" and "maybe it's possible" that he may have been asked to postpone his announcement until A1 from Feld and the "Golden Parachute" comment was somewhat tongue in cheek but plausible .... I didn't say it as fact or even remotely true just a thought I had, different from "he's shitty with media" .... Just for fun ( humor me for a minute) assuming it was even a 15% effect in ticket sales over 17 rounds, how much do you think Feld would stand to lose over that? Quite a bit right? Do I think that Feld actually made a deal with James? No but no doubt that if him being on the line racing vs not being there has even a 10% effect on ticket sales, it would Amount To a large amount of lost ticket revenue over 17 races. My comment was just a HYPOTHETICAL "spitballing" thought, taken out of context.

A bunch of us will probably start Stewart threads after he retires just to read you bitch online about it, it'll be funny.

He is so talented but a lesson on the dangers of #Yesmen in your camp. Worst PR of any major athlete ever. No one is telling him to get his ass up ride and train. All yesmen in his camp. When he came off the WADA suspension looking plump I knew it was over. He should of taken rickies advice and retire on top!

If he isn't mentally committed then this would be best, I will miss seeing JS7 out there mixing it up...

I hope it's not true. I have been a Stewart fan from the beginning and he is so exciting to watch.

It's not like I will not watch or attend SX but the current crop of riders are kind of boring compared to James.

I was raised to accept my mistakes and not blame others. The only person James has to blame is himself IMO. BTW was it WADA's fault James didn't submit his TUE or keep up his training and returned over weight after his suspension?

"These kids today" :-) have no idea of personal responsibility.

James used to be exciting. Now I'm over seeing
him race one moto then not race the second moto.

On the other hand I would starve for a two weeks if not four to have a time machine to go back to the main at A1 last year and have it play out differently. I HATE that James got taken out after the start. My gut tells me his season would have been drastically different but woulda coulda shoulda doesn't count and only the shadow knows about the what might have been stuff.
