No, you don't loose 2 lbs when you disconnect. The pressure escape you hear is the 150+/- that is in the pump, you loose the 2lbs when you reconnect the pump and 2lbs escaped your forks to pressurize the pump for the reading. You just have to remember whatever the guage reads when you connect it is actually 2psi lower than what the actual fork pressure was.

Actually the pressure lose happens when you connect the pump to your fork because the X amount of PSI in the fork has to equalize it's X amount of PSI in with the zero PSI volume in the pump. So, whatever the pump guage reads is true, and you only lose psi in fork when you connect. Disconnecting only vents the psi in the pump.
To Slipdog, liver, greg, 76... thanks guys. I had this issue and didn't know what to do. Since I'm new to air forks... I was wondering the same when measuring the pressure.
Now... anyone with this issue...I have a 17 250sx, I'm 185 (no gear), intermedia vet rider. My stock forks are on AP: 145, Comp 18, reb 14. The shock... sag 105, h comp 1 3/4 out, l comp 15, reb 13. I like a suspension that feels plush at first but gets stiff as travels down the stroke. current settings make the Bike feels good almost everywhere (intermedia and sand tracks in florida) ase long ase track is not too rough. Now.. when the track starts getting really rough with deep bumps everywhere... then the forks start feeling kind of stiff and mostly on the first part of the fork travel... I was told that once I find an AP that holds my weight... to work on the comp and reb clicks only. OK then... so I left the AP at 145 and went soft on comp... then it feelt too soft on landings, corners and on sandy sections, if i went stiffer on the comp... then it felt even stiffer/harsh on the bumps but good on landing and big whoops. Super difficult to explain in writing the feeling of the forks. So... the AP is supposed to affect the first part of the fork travel. OK then... If i went higher on AP , Then the bike feels mega plush on landings but starts feeling high up front and can't turn crap. Feels like a riding a chopper. if I went lower on the AP, then I felt too forward on top of the clamp and not helping on the Sandy sections and it felt harsh assuming that It was too soft and forks where packing down. So... any help would be appreciated of what direction to take when the suspension feels good but when it gets rougher... then what to do?... play the clicks on comp and reb or the AP... and then... which direction... softer or harder on either comp, Reb, or AP. Sorry if it is a stupid question... I just can't find a good setting on the forks yet. Btw... slip... I tried your setting and it was too stiff for me... obviously I'm wayyy slower and fatter than you... lol

Victor, If the higher AP made the forks feel better that is the direction you should go. I have found most people have trouble with air forks because they run the AP too low. To address the chopper feel, which I also had as well, I would suggest you try adding preload to the rear spring to get balanced better with the forks. As you know I went much stiffer with the compression adjusters and preload to get mine better. I would start with 100mm of sag and see if that helps the bike turn better with the higher AP. That's where I ended up to make mine turn with the stock set up, but now I'm back at 105ish with a stiffer spring and valving

Mine are re-valved, I've settled in w/ 141psi, comp.-20-25, reb.- 10-13. 2nd line
from the top. I love them. The pressure builds, so check them before every ride.
I love these forks-
(I'm a 60+ int/exp., 180lbs.)
I put a zip-tie on the fork leg to confirm or deny what I'm feeling thru the stroke
as far as bottoming resistance, then fine tune w/ clickers.

No, you don't loose 2 lbs when you disconnect. The pressure escape you hear is the 150+/- that is in the pump, you loose the 2lbs when you reconnect the pump and 2lbs escaped your forks to pressurize the pump for the reading. You just have to remember whatever the guage reads when you connect it is actually 2psi lower than what the actual fork pressure was.

Victor16, your comment "Feels like riding a chopper", is what I felt too. Raise the forks up in triple clamp. I need to measure how far I went , but it is way more than any bike I've ever had and I love it. Then you could go a tad bit more on the AP

You know what? I knew that theory but my old fart brain of mine somehow never thought of decreasing the sag to make the bike more balanced with the front. I will try that as well. Thanks for the tipast slip.
Kb... thanks for the setting tip... but when you revalved your suspension... it makes it different from mine that is stock. So that setting most likely will not work for me as good as for you. I did noticed that your reb is way slower than your comp. Interesting. I wonder if on hard squear breaking bumps you get headshake? If you do.... try increasing the Reb a few clicks in order to work smoothly the the fast comp.

Let me explain...this past weekend I was racing and the setting felt good at first... towards the end of the day, the track got very rough and got bumps everywhere and the bike felt very harsh on the first part of the travel. So my question is what would you guys do at his point with your already established setting if seeking for a more plush feeling because of drastic track changes? Do you guys make some click changes on the comp and reb, or you guys change the AP while keeping your comp and reb the same? Perhaps even both? Idk... any past experience or tips would help so I can try them on my own.

Powerband had my AERs for a few months using them to design a spring conversion kit. He did like 3 small mods before sending them back to me. I wanted them to stay air because I didn't want it to maybe hurt the resale of my bike. I raced 3 very different tracks and practiced 3 other times on them and I feel that while they're not a cone valves plushness wise they are a very good fork and by far the best production WP fork that I've ever tried. I've been all over the place settings wise getting them set up but I'm very comfortable with them at 145psi and 18 compression and 14 on the rebound. I'm running them up on the 3rd line and I feel that for me it really makes the bike feel balanced and it turns great with zero hint of headshake. Hopefully I'll get one last ride this weekend before I sell it and am bike-less until the new FE's come in.
Digger29, when u state u run them up on the 3rd line, does that mean u moved the fork tubes up the triple clamp so the top of the upper triple clamp is flush with the 3rd line down from the top of the fork tube?
Wouldn't that but more weight on the front end making head shake worse?

Or did u mean "running the up" as moving the triple clamp up so that would force the fork tubes down and the 3rd line being the top most line, closest line to the top of the fork, putting more weight on the rear?

@Victor16, Reading your posts I can tell you are very in tune with what you are feeling. My 2 cents is if you are happy with your air and compression settings simply slow down rebound in your fork when the track gets rough. Also don’t be afraid to drop some PSI and of course compression softer. Not unusual to be 5 psi different track to track. Personally I start with comp clickers when things feel harsh, if I’m out more than 2 I reduce PSI. Once that is as good as it gets then it’s rebound adj time. You’ll also know to slow rebound if you are feeling any push in corners.
One thing I’ve noticed and wonder if others agree or disagree is the AER forks seem to react very quickly compared to spring. In conditions where I might open up (speed up) rebound on a spring fork to avoid packing I find that I’m slowing rebound down with the AER when it feels harsh and “busy”.

As mentioned, you have to check it regularly. We have a long thermometer here.

Can be 40 in the AM, 90 or more in the PM. It will change 3-5 lbs just due to temp.

I weigh about the same as you. I start the day off at 10.3 bar (149 psi) and by the end of the riding day (2 hours later on the hour meter) the pressure drops to about 9.8 bar. Im vastly more comfortable at that pressure, tho, it may just be because after 2 hours of seat time, I am riding better. I cant figure it out.

Im judging that by the results of this thread there arent any PSI/weight charts that WP have made available?

I'd love to know what the PSI should be based on weight. That way I could set it and then just worry about the clickers.

You guys are doing/thinking about it wrong. Don't check it. Just set it and ride - then set it when you ride next. Just like air pressure for tires or any air forks

To add to the database here. About 24 hrs on 2017 SXF450 - 140-145 lbs 50 Int/Exp It took a long time to figure out I need to go low on psi -135 right now and a little lighter on comp and rebound. 3rd line up seems best with 107 sag. I also had to go to a .42 spring rate on rear and still only have 5-10mm preload depending on sag which seems about right I feel I've gotten it pretty good with OEM and I'm almost ready for a revalve. Kreft, Dicks, MXR, FC, Race Tech - I have no idea?

A buddy had his '16 Fe KTM 450 revalved by MX 1 and they recommended 140 psi. in the forks for over 200 lb.riders
He said the forks felt harsh and asked me ride it and see what I thought. I knew that Mx1 removed any float on the midvalve so it was natural that it would ride high in the stroke but it just wouldn't follow the braking bumps. We started at 140 psi and dropped pressure until we ended up with 105 psi. At that pressure it felt like a good KYB or SHOWA fork ,plush on the small stuff but no bottoming. I weigh 220 lb. and race the vet A class and could not live with this bike if I had to run the higher air pressures. For you guys with the 48 AER try a lower psi one day when you are at the practice track just to see what you think.

I'm 190 and on my TC250 I added a few PSIs to the number in the manual.
I'm running 152psi currently, works good for me

I would run 145 and set the clicker 12 out. If to stiff drop air down 2 lbs if to soft up 2 lbs until you has about 1 inch of travel noticeable when using full travel. I’m not a suspension expert but I stayed at Holiday Inn Express.

Wow some interesting reads here. So every different on air pressures for the AER forks. I am mostly surprised on "Alien " set up of 140 psi for a 220 pound rider.

Myself I'm 75kgs. 165 pounds. 2017 ktm 450 sxf. AUSTRALIA. Vet MX rider.
I found the 140psi way. Too low and bottoms out a lot even running comp at 8 clicks out .. felt much better at 151 psi and running around 15 clicks out on comp.
Although I must admitt I still not feeling the plushness people describe as it still feels rough through small bumps, this semented this for me when having a ride on the 2017 yami 450 sxf and that is hands down more plush through small chop. My 2 cents worth..
I would be happy with the AER if I could get more comfortable through small chop. ANY ideas?? Revalve??

Just to add. Im running forks on 3rd line down from top(black cap meets fork tube) as recommended by motocross action. Still understeer for me and feels higher in the front. A bit lost. Lol..

Did u raise the fork tubes up the triple clamp to the 3rd line down from the top of the fork tube? Wouldn't this put more weight on the rear creating more headshake?
I came off a Honda and I'm having a hard time turning the bike, feels "tall"in the corners doesn't want to "sit" down and get in the groove.
Running 140 psi, 13 out on both comp and rebound, and about 105 on the sag

Running the up? Does that mean u move the forks up the triple clamp to the 3rd line down from the top of the fork?
I think that place more weight in the rear and would create more head shake?
Or did u mean u ran the triple clamp up the fork tube to the 3rd line from the bottom of the fork tube? Making the weight shift to the front

These are the settings I currently have and its been amazing so far. 178lbs without gear faster B rider.

2018 KTM 250 SX
Air pressure: 144 psi
Compression: 23 clicks out
Rebound: 19 clicks out
Fork height: 3nd line

Spring rate: 4.2 N/m (my bike is an '18)
Hi-compression: 1-1/4 turns out
Lo-compression: 8 clicks out
Rebound: 13 clicks out
Race sag: 107mm

What made the biggest improvement was realigning the front end. From the dealer my forks were on a bind and had a real harsh feeling and a slip/stick condition up top. When I loosened the top clamp everything sprung back and I reset everything and went for a ride. Now its really plush and handles much better.

I'm on a 17 xcf 350 which has been revalved so I wont bore you with my settings. I've noticed and my suspension guy has verified that when you are moving the fork pressure around more than just a few psi (4+/- psi) you need to change the Rebound accordingly i.e. increase pressure = slow the rebound down a click or two, decrease pressure = speed up the rebound a click or two. I've noticed that stacking occurs when lowering pressure and the rebound isn't sped up to allow the fluid to transfer as needed. I've only lowered my pressure as I spend my time on the trails. I'd run a set of whoops and wheelie out and when I set the front down it felt like a brick until I sped the rebound up. This might not be new information to any of you but I didn't see it covered yet

That's about right in line with everything Ive read. Im going 3rd line down as well.

170 lbs = 10 bar
150 lbs = 9.65 bar

I still find it odd that WP didnt release an air pressure chart based on weight. I didnt think spring rate was some subjective measurement. It should be based on our weight, and then we play with the clickers and valving to suit our personal needs.

My AER forks are on a 2016 250 SX, so not really designed for the bike. Nevertheless, I'm over 200 lbs and have put a stiffer spring on the shock. With that, I've found that if I run less than 155 psi in the forks the bike feels unbalanced and doesn't hold up in the front well enough going into corners. I also mostly ride on a sand track. It was always my understanding that you should set the air pressure to match the spring rate you want (hence if you're running a stiffer spring in the rear, go up on PSI on the fork to keep the bike balanced), and then use the clickers to adjust from there.
