Malcolm Stewart interview

10/23/2016 8:22am
What Malcolm is missing is that he has the wrong attitude. He thinks a ride should be given to him and he'll wait until that happens. I remember Shorty buying a CRF450, putting on some A kit suspension and a pipe and putting himself in the top 5 at an SX, and a ride quickly followed. Grant took a privateer Suzuki to Daytona and did the same thing. Gotta show people you want it and will work for it, not sit around waiting for someone to hand it to you!

Reed isn't a legitimate threat. He's in a mentorship role. And he's one person out of what, 100 or so pro riders lining up for sx/Mx in the 250/ 450 class. Hardly someone to be the example of an SX only contract.
Reed is more of a threat over the course of a season. Mookie might have more all out speed but he also has a track record of crashing and not finishing races.

The only correct response to reed doing a SX only deal is he's paid his dues. He has the fan base, championships and money to warrant being part time and still be able to get a factory ride. Mookie has no one to blame but himself. If he was out there competing in MX he would have a ride right now, there's no question about it.

Agree 100%. Real shot in the foot to skip a whole series to prove your worth. Makes no sense.

Out of curiosity, what kind of pay does a rider like mookie try to seek out?

Malcolm has done all that before. After his ride with TLD he bought their 450 race bike - remember the Seven branded Honda at RB Straight Rhythm? That got him a "fill in" ride with Geico, then he got a full time ride with them the following year and delivered a championship. If he were to buy a bike again and go about it "privateer style" what would that accomplish? There are no rides. A lot of risk for no real reward - except a fill in ride. Which is what he is waiting for anyway. What is there for him to"want it and work for it"? You act like there are available rides and teams are simply passing him by. That's definitely not the case.

You can only burn so many bridges before you run out of bridges . I think the Stewart family is getting close to that point if not already there .

I would have seen Malcolm doing the outdoors on a 250 as a win win situation for him. I mean if he goes out there and doesn't do real well he can say that he is too big for the 250 outdoors and I think anyone who understands moto would agree with him. On the other hand if he does do well on it then that makes him look even better.

To me it sounds a bit diva-ish to sit out the outdoor series and expect a ride.

He should sit out supercross to prove to everyone that he deserves a big contract for the outdoors.

I like how he takes the high road and doesn't throw anyone under the bus who's slower than him and has a good ride.

The way some of you talk about them...it seems like both the Stewarts shit in your cheerios!

MCR tried to sign him, He could be racing. I think the family has seen the end of the big paychecks with James (Bubba) being basically done now. Seven gear is probably paying its own way but not making the kind of money the family has been spending for years. Mookie has been advised to hold out for more money, not because he wants to but because they (the family, entourage) need him to. This prospective makes me think that not having fun on the motorcycle is a real possibility.

Who said that because this is probably the very first thing we have heard about that.

Plus Reed is also 34 years old, Mookie is 23.

I'm guessing people tend to forget momma Sonya went back to college and got an accounting degree I think it was or something similar to ensure they would be just fine. I don't think anyone really knows how much money stewart has actually made. And I wouldn't say seven is just getting by. There are a lot of people wearing that gear for how short it has been mad to the public. I found it ironic how many companies were replicating that gear at red bull strait rhythm. If its one thing stewart knows it is style. And it seems all the other companies have been taking note. Also note big james and sonya have other income than james.

Please enlighten me to big James income streams, as I am not aware of any that can support the entourage?

Thanks for remembering that, I sure didn't! He rode it at MEC, too, didn't he? But it backs up my point once again--get a bike, race a few rounds, put yourself in the top 10 and prove your worth! There are many past 250 champs in the exact same boat, no one is owed anything, and if nobody offered him a ride, obviously he still has more to prove!
