No way Martin didn't get a minimum of a half mil for each title.
RC got 125k from Kawasaki for his first title in 97.
I've said it before, but I'll repeat myself. "It's a TOUGH way to make a living" . Even when you've actually made it, there's just not very much money left when the dust settles. (Talking about everyone but the top 450 guys)
Let me add that I don't believe he's broke for a second. Omara told me a penny would squek before leaving his fingers.
The Shop
DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
He and his brother both are smart dudes and I dont see them wasting ANY money.
Even people with one or more college degrees who should know better frequently don't fully understand their own finances.
It goes fast.
A simple example(I know there's tons of writes offs, but to make it easy):
$100,000 Salary
-$30,000-Trainer
-$20,000- Practice Mechanic
-$20,000- Travel
=$30,000 In the riders pocket at the end of the day
-($10,000)30% for taxes- (You could be smart and live in a state income tax free state and save 10%)
=$20,000 After taxes
-$10,000 Cost of living outside of motocross
=$10,000 of savings in riders bank account, and that's if you are lucky
I guess its the guys like Carmichael who are ultimately the lucky ones and have their parent as their coach/shrink/nutritionist throughout their entire career. But then you have the Alessi's, and any amount of money is worth paying to not have Tony as your track shrink.
Pit Row
In your scenario, everyones getting paid but the star.
The star is getting paid, he's just choosing to invest in his program. When you are a 450 guy making $300,000 per year and expenses are simaler, you will be saving $150,000 a year in your bank.
Every sport and buisness is the same that I know of. Moto guys spend a lot of money on training and back into their program to be on top. Imagine what the costs are to have your of facility like Barcia, Trey or Reed?
Trainers, nutritionists, hangers on, entourage, posse, nanny, coaches, driver, PR, social media manager.....
Hitting coach, chef, accountant, psych coach, life planner, wife.....
