This is true but Coop made a lot more than any other 250 rider this year not including the half million bonus for winning the outdoors championship and definitely more than most 450 riders save three or four. I think coop will still go even when he makes it really big on the fo fatty just because he loves riding his dirt bike

There's a reason riders like Ricky Carmichael make a big deal out of their MXdN victories in their bios.

I genuinely hope you have a great time at Glen Helen, I imagine it will be a spectacular and memorable weekend!

Run it every other year...

I think TO THE RIDERS when America was winning every year for a decade and a half, it got stale and boring...now that we aren't winning at all for the past half decade, its just not fun.

But stale and boring, and not fun...neither are good signs for American riders interest in the event.

The only fans that I know that care about the event are the ones that follow the message boards...well, that's a bit of an exaggeration, but for the most part its true...and to American fans, that post on the message boards, we loved it in the past (when America was winning) because then we could talk trash on all the Europeans/non-Americans....now that America isn't winning, we can't talk trash on the message boards any more, so it doesn't matter at all.

I do feel like American riders are in a lose/lose situation, even if they win...if they win its because we have a largest population and we are SUPPOSED to win, so our win doesn't matter...but if they lose, then its a massive deal and the team(s) that beat them are amazing, and we really suck to lose with such a huge population.

It's like wrestling a girl...if you win, big deal! You're supposed to win...but if you lose, look out because you'll never hear the end of it.

So I can see why American riders-especially the best of the best in America-don't really care to go.

I understand what you are saying, it makes a lot of sense, but every other country had to deal with year upon year of American domination, I'm sure that wasn't much fun. They never stepped away from the challenge though
I'm not defending the attitude of American fans...I'm just offering my observation on why they have it.

I would tend to agree it's lost the luster after a 3 or 4 year winless drought. I'm also wondering if it would have made a difference to Eli if Dungey were healthy? After the beating the US riders take when they return when they don't win, did he weigh his options after the possibility of not winning again? And winning on home soil next year would be sweeter? I'm a huge fan of eli and am very bummed he's not going. I understand completely however.

It's the main event of the year to showcase the downward spiral of the the USA fighting to even get on the podium against the GP riders. Sour grapes when you are being beaten. Who wants to be known as a rider on the team that lost?
That's some pretty awful bait there, my man.

I was just curious. I was wondering if it was the same basic lineup for the GP's and the MXdN and that might be a reason as to some peoples loss of interest.

i hope not, but the way these riders are contractually obligated to do all this other stuff, the MXdN is the only thing they aren't pressured to do

The fact that he is always comparing GP riders to AMA Says it all. He is bitter that Ferrandis is leaving and then Gasjer is leaving and countless future world champs will leave the GPs for the AMA series.

The MXDN is certainly the most entertaining race of the year. Have always looked forward to seeing a 125 rider have to step up to the 250 / 500 or vice versa. Emig on the 500 at Jerez, Coop on the 450 ... even Buckwheat getting stuck on the 125 at Unadilla.

Since it is only a single race it doesn't count for much other than a good time, but there is usually some great drama to the points.

For the Euro fans jumping all over the US riders ... first compare the schedule of the US riders vs the GP schedule. Between SX and MX they don't get much of a rest. That said, I think they should find the time. Stuff like the MEC simply are not in the same league and IMHO have been pretty disappointing so far.

From the mfgr / team view it must be one of the more expensive events of the year. Is there any financial sharing from Luongo?

Lastly, I sincerely hope GH learns how to do some marketing for the 2017 event. In the past they have done practically ZERO marketing for the GPs they have held. Never heard any radio spots. Never saw much in print. Then they wonder about the poor turnout? Please hire someone capable to market your events.

It's the only proMX race of the year that allows us to watch the worlds best MX racers race each other regardless of the engine displacement of the bike they're racing. At the MXdN we get to watch the hot shot 250f guys go up against the 450's, Wasn't it great to watch Villopoto beat them all on his 250f just as it was to see Omara's results on a 125 back in the day; who doesn't love a "underdog" win/effort?

But having what is basically two 450 classes needs to be dropped. Put in a two stroke class and get 125's and 250's in the mix also. After all there are some proMX series in the world that race two strokes and this is supposed to be like the Olympics of MX isn't it? Maybe there'd be more enthusiastic participation from some countries (Canada) with this sort of class included.

None of this seemed to be a problem 5/10 years ago
Has Guy B's board been completely taken over by newbs, or do you guys just have short memories? This is the same lame crap that went on back in 2002-2005...same lame excuses, same weak sauce whining by the American riders and OEMs. No doubt the fact that there are a half dozen MXGP guys as fast or faster than our two best riders and another dozen who are as fast, or faster than everyone else we've got might have something to do with the jaundiced look of our primadonnas...I guess yellow is the new black!

And they're not gonna have a two-stroke class, so get that shit outta your heads

Since the EMX300 class got re-instated, I'd agree that the 300cc two strokes should be included.

The problem was created when money became more important than pride. And as for ads on the radio or newspapers we have done surveys when we did them versus not and it did not draw any more with them or without. Outdoor MX is not the same crowd per say SX. They don't want to be there 2 days versus 8 hrs. It's the real fans that go to outdoor races. If your under 35 you understand and have seen the change. Some call it the evolution of the sport. If you have been around the last 15 you will see the change in attendance indoors and out. The hearts of the old cannot stop the outstretched hands of the young.

Jonny Omara on a 500 he'd never ridden before.

The greatest stories in motocross have happened at the MXDN. I don't care who goes, I just want to see three guys that are willing to put in the ride of their life no matter how they finish.

I'm guessing you missed the Olympic athletes from the PGA and NBA that passed on the Olympics then. Similar reasons as our top MX'ers that said no thanks. It's easy to judge when you're not in their shoes.

Speaking of easy, easy there big fella. Easy to assume RE: I'm guessing you.......

My reality is I want to see Team USA win the $&@$ing MXoN and get the Chamberlain trophy back.

Roczen's bike set up was pretty far off in German MXoN 2013 according to a KTM employee I know and spoke to at the event. Ken made up with heart what was lacking in his set up that weekend.

I realize no one should be forced to go but I remain bummed Tomac isn't going. His ride in the last moto at the Latvian MXoN 2013 was nothing short of amazing.

I understand this forum is mainly an American forum, but IMHO the title should have beeen "Is MXDN becoming a thing of the past, for us Americans?"
I still have to see a euro fan having any doubt about it.

Maybe it's because the races are held mostly here in Europe and so most of you guys never attended one, but all of those who were lucky enough to make it know perfectly that the MXdN is and will always be the greatest mx race.
The atmosphere is just unreal, the night between the two days of racing is just unbelievable, and I'm pretty sure the riders feel exactly the same.
Comparing it to any other race is just ridiculous.

I would even say this year's race, 30 years after THAT race, in that same track, will be something I will remember my whole life, whoever will be on the American team.
If they even care about sending someone...

It seems to come down to the US not winning the last few years, so a lot of US 'fans' lose interest in it.

So, let's change everything...........

FUCK that, and the horse it came on.

Leave it the hell alone. No every two years, no every 4 years. Each Fucking year!

You have top riders not interested in going / between contracts with existing sponsors not interested in spending the money, or currently injured ?

Fine, just get the next rider in line that Is interested, that Does have some backing.

Every bloody country has those types of problems. But it happens to the US Team? - well, let's just change things, and continue the fucking up of our sport.

People who are only interested in one of the Great, yearly events our sport still has, If their team wins - show just how much they really are 'into' the sport of Motocross. Stick with your SX, your Nationals and get ready for ever more crap like Straight Rhythm - even that might test your attention spans.

It's just bloody pathetic, this being unable to handle not winning every year, so therefor it needs to be changed, by some of you.

Next year Team USA will win easily, Team France will be second with two US based riders (Musquin and Ferrandis) and the rest will race for third place maximum. Everything will be fantastic again and it will be proven once again how deep and how much stronger the competition in the AMA is.

Well it's hard to ignore that since the USA hasn't won the last few years, the interest of American riders and fans has dwindled a bit. Not saying they are sore losers or did poorly, I just believe that team USA goes to that event with the wrong mindset because they have been so dominant in the past.

In my opinion, team USA goes over there "expecting" to win, whereas they should "want" to win, not expect it. There is nothing wrong with finishing 2nd or 3rd for a few years in a row. They will win again, if not this year, then next year or the year after.

That race should be about representing your country, and if another country beats you, well too bad, but that's the way things go. I guess the same can be said about Ken Roczen that won't participate because he doesn't have a chance to win, to me that's a completely wrong mentality.

What about all the countries that only have one good rider, like Italy? Should they not participate because they have no chance to win? The Italian fans are some of the most enthusiastic of all, and they all know that they probably won't win the event in the next 10 years.
