Whoever the rider is with a nice points lead half way through, earned that lead. To have his cushion taken away to give the other guys a chance is an insult to the lead rider.
The rules are the same for everyone right now. If a rider isn't prepared, or hits the deck, or his setup is off the first half the year that's his problem. They shouldn't just get to mulligan half the season.
Not sure I will continue to follow the Sport.
You think Kenny and Eli aren't gonna get after it a bit more with a shot at the championship? We already know they will, because any time a far and away points leader goes out with an injury, the 4-5 dudes with a shot at it go batshit trying to get it done... 2007 450 outdoors, 2013 east series are two that come to mind.
Enough said!
Does this chase format punish the likes of RD? Yes and No, yes that he cant win it the way he has for the past few seasons, no if anything makes it more of a challenge and to be perfectly honest (ok I am bias) it wont change the outcome, just make the final chase more exciting as Crush says make 4-5 guys go at it. The best rider will always win no matter what.
imho
Then make the 250 class run all of them too. Forget east/west.
Read my comment again care-ful-ly next time...
Justin brayton won the title one year with the chase format I believe. He's never even been in the conversation of the best guy.
Pit Row
The new elimination format of the past 2 years guaranted a close finish and has produced a last race winner=champion.
There is no way that Feld shortens the championship to less than 17 races. Races=$$$ if they could they would probably expand the series for more races.
I guess we both cant read, and we are both pedantic.
Sure, almost everyone in the main is a race winner, but how many could win NOW? Better yet, after seeing the first 11 races, who would even have the consistency to be called a championship contender, even if Dungey wasn't so dominant?
The problem is there is No Villopoto, no Chad and James from circa 2008, no Carmichael,...Outside of Dungey, Roczen, Webb and Martin, I see virtually nobody that has all the ingredients of a REAL championship contender at this point in their career.
No chase format will ever change that.
It's not always the young generations fault, it's not always society's flaws......
This is going to reiterate your point. A chase will bring the best, most prepared, fastest rider to the front.
It will also make a guy like Dungey push the last races, instead of pace Tomac and finish 2nd (Daytona) or take the lead and then go conservative to finish 3rd (Toronto) because he has such a lead all he needs to do is take 3rd or 4th every race from here on out..... which is super lame. That robs us as fans of seeing rear actual battles and competetion.... not the other way around.
But for real this can't be happening? Great way do disadvantage the best and probably the ones who work the hardest
