I've literally ridden with Deano on the same bike. Laughing
Laughing Laughing

Also pretty much ridden with most famous motocrossers. The benifits of being in SoCal.

Over the years, funnest dude ever was Kenny Zahrt, fastest was Danny Chandler, most annoying is a tie between Eric Kehoe and Mike Alessi, as both flew past me on 80s!!!
Been on the same D-36 track during *practice* with Magoo.

Kenny Zahrt gave me a ride on his Bultaco one day out at a track in the San Fernando Valley. Big mistake...thought I was going to fall off and die every second of that ride!

Went to the gate very early for a regional 250 pro race in late '87. Then Glover lined up on one side, Dubach on the other. That was as close as I ever got to them (or most of the others riders) the rest of the day.

Snuck into the long ago closed Deer Valley Cycle Park to ride the old track in the early 90's (it was on State land- you just hoped the PD wouldn't show up). Someone on a Yamaha 250 was there in a pickup truck by himself, no numbers, but just flying around the track. It took until I caught a glance of the Chesterfield logo on the jersey to figure out it was Bobby Moore home from Europe (living in Scottsdale in the off season). After he passed me like I was stopped I decided to really just stop and watch.

My 2nd ever race 1982 (80 beginner) Jimmy Button hit my front wheel in the first turn and made me crash. Dick. (:

Rode with Dick Mann in a practice session at the E St track in Marysville back around 1980. I heard him coming up behind me (he was easy to recognize because he was the only rider on a 4 stroke at the time) and being the "fast"Unsure novice rider that I was, I tried to race with him, but I quickly learned why he is a legend and all time great. He caught up to me, blew past me and left me in the dust like I was standing still. I was definitely humbled and saw with my own eyes, just how fast a real pro goes. And he was no young man either, must've been in his late 40's or early 50's at the time.

I rode with Bradshaw and Dubach at The Baldwin bros track off El Toro road back in the day. Also lucked out to show up at Beaumont one Sat where Armaridio, Tuttobene, Meyercough, Ron Lawson, and a few others took me on the most epic trail ride just after a rain out there.

Great, great stories.

I will chime in on the "I couldn't hang" part of this thread.

As a young kid I rode a local track with a guy who seemed to me light-year fast, and thus, ensured my realization that my talents were elsewhere: Billy Liles.

Much later, riding for fun, but working at a dealer, I rode Aonia Pass, GA track a lot. I never rode at the same time as RC or Mike Alessi, but did with Matt Walker and Robbie Horton. There was a section that had a double followed by a short, high tabletop followed by a sharp 90 right turn. My normal course was to double then poke over the table so I could make the sharp turn. MWalker, on his beat-up/down PC practice bike would clear the double like it was a speed bump, lift the front tire and slam into the face of the tall tabletop to slow his momentum, then float into the corner.

Robbie Horton was practicing jumping into a set of uphill whoops as if suspension was an afterthought. I was practically rolling them.

Great days!

I shared the track with a young Justin Barcia in November 2005. He was down here the week before the Mini Os practicing at Pax. He was on a CR 85 and he was easily the fastest guy on the track. Ultimately I took a seat in the bleachers and watched him hit this 100' step up while doing crazy look backs. I was also smoked by Ashley Fiolek while riding at North Florida Motocross on a random Wednesday afternoon in 2008 or so. She was super fast and had a very clean riding style.

My dad used to race with Jeff Smith all the time in national harescramble series.

In 03 I had built 2 tracks on a farm near my home.

I invited everyone from the interweb to come, freshdirt was the place then,MD just getting going.

If you were there you know what a epic day it was, conditions primo.

About 50 showed, built this hit that put you up and over a ridge ,you could get 200 feet and land smooth as silk.

Good times

being from FL and doing alot of nationals I've raced against many many different current and former pros in my 25 yrs racing. Personally grew up and raced against as well as practiced along... RC, James, mookie, Reed, Kyle Chisholm, Millsaps, villopoto, matt boni, matt goerke, the butler brothers, Ricky Renner, Zack Freeburg, Justin starling, Gannon audette, Byrne, Dan Truman, Zach Osborne, both Alessi brothers, both medaglia brothers, RJ Hampshire, Jason Lawrence, cianciarulo, bisceglia, Barcia, and I'm sure I'm missing off the top of my head quite a bit of others as well. It was a tough time and era and location growing up trying to go pro here where I'm from lol, looking back now I never had a chance lol. As I was just deciding to focus on school and college is when the MX training facilities started to become really prevalent and almost a necessity like they are now days, I chose a different path
Funny thing about your post is I raced and rode with RC, Ronnie Renner and RJ's dad, Chisholms dad use to give me a ride to the track and Freeburgs dad sponsored me when he had his shop, Rj's dad was just at my house Monday.

Back in the 90s a bunch of us use to get together and ride at Croom, RC, KW, Renner, Pastrana (still does) and a bunch of others.

I can also say i beat RC on 80s at a Dade city race...he crashed but i'm still claiming it.

Road racing- on track with Spies, Schwantz, Mladin, Hayden bros, Disalvo, Pegram, Rapp, Haskovic, was teammates with Mike Barnes and Geoff May they just finished 1-2 in Daytona 200.

I can remember Spies blow by me on back straight at Daytona as we were about to brake into the chicane...scared the shit out of me.

That's funny you should ask that. I have loved dirt bikes since the late sixties (yes I'm old). I did 28 years in the Air Force and always tried to get stationed in Southern California but never did. When I retired in 2004, I told my wife I was going to get a job in So Cal. I was lucky and landed a job at Boeing in Huntington Beach. Like 95% of the dirt bikers all around the world, I only read about the MX stars in the magazines or on TV.

On the first day I went to a track (Cahuilla Creek) I was getting dressed up and Ernesto Fonseca, Michael Bryne showed up. They had two tracks and I went out on the vet track as I was super nervous. Back then the old vet track had a pretty good sand section that got real rough. I was coming into a corner and I heard a bike coming up fast behind me. I went wide in the turn and a guy on a Honda took the inside and just roosted the heck out of me. It was Jeremy Mcgrath. I remember saying "Wah Who" as loud as I could.

After I got home I made a document on my PC titled "Riders Who Have Passed Me". After my first day riding in So Cal I had three famous guys already. I still keep adding to that list today. I don't have a total number but I'm on my third page of riders who are very good privateers up to factory riders.

My wife just laughs at me when I come home and I say guess who I rode with today? It's been amazing.

Pretty cool to live near the hotbed of the moto industry, huh?
jimmie, Yes I still work for Boeing. I actually sit in the Seal Beach campus but work in the Huntington Beach also. I have had the most fun as far moto goes since I moved here. You get to do things moto related you just can't do anywhere else in the world. I love it.

Going to Pala on Saturday to ride around slow on the vet and amateur track. ha ha

I joined the AF in 1976 for one reason....so they would ship me and my bike to Europe so I could race the GP's. Yes, I was naive. They did send me (and my MX400) to England but I got a rude awakening trying to deal with the "club" racing system they had at the time. I did get some help from the Bavins up in Diss but they were on to bigger things.
Fast forward a million years. I have ridden the track with Guy Cooper and up in Wichita with the Hahn bros. I should say, gotten blasted by Cooper and the Hahns.
plowboy, Air Force in 76 also. Nice....My dad was stationed in England in 1960 - 62. That is where I went to my first MX race. I have always wanted to go back to England. Haven't made it yet.

Big Lenny, Another fellow Airman.....What base was that with the track? I was at Edwards AFB in1987 for 9 months. They had a track that would host one race a year and some of the good privateers would come out. I would go ride it all by myself. There was nobody on it ever. I was also station at Beale AFB in Nor Cal. It didn't have a track on base but it did have a pretty fun area to ride at. I made a couple little tracks there.

I can't ever admit to actually racing with any of these guys...I have had the pleasure of riding with Jeff Dement, Steve Wise, Wyman Priddy & Steve Stackable. I could barely stay on the same lap with most all of them...but they let me share the dirt their tires were on for a while anyway! Ha!

Red Bud Grass Track race either 2001 or 2002. The week after Larocco won the $100,000 US Open he decided to come back for a hometown race and signed up for +25 on a 125. I was either on my 380 KTM 2T or 520 4T.

I got a top 5 holeshot and Larocco on the 125 didnt. Going around the 2nd turn just before the ski jump he was screaming around the outside of me when someone else inside me missed a rut and stood me up. I hit him so hard it sent him about 15 ft off the track but he didnt crash!

About 3 turns later as we were getting off the National track portion and onto the grass track he cam screaming back around me again and I didnt see him for the rest of the day!

Ive had some other cool runnins with moto celebrity but I will never forget that one.

Cool story. I remember the old ratty pickup too. I don't think he was into looking fancy, just going fast and being out front. Definitely, on pavement or in the dirt - he was one of the best.

Raced Gareth Swanepoel back in SA when we were younger. He was a machine, pretty much cleaned up every class he rode. At one point he would take a PW50/KX60/KX80 and win all 3 classes.

Tyla Rattray and Grant Langston both at the South African Nationals because they were from a different province (state) and those boys where quick.

Chad Smanjak (Guy from Crusty) coached me for a while before I broke my femur and was out of it.

Neville Bradshaw who raced pro in the UK for many years.

Most times I've been on the track with famous guys was at Carlsbad GP's. Been passed by McGrath, Kurt Casselli (RIP) Travis Pastrana, Guy Cooper (on DRZ400) and whatever other big names used to race those things, Kiedrowski I think did a couple when he switched to offroad. I told my wife that at some point in the race I will be right in front of MC or Pastrana (The two guys she'd recognize) as they're lapping me, Thats when you need to take the picture.....Laughing I kept MC in sight for about 1/2 the length of the dragstrip, besides that 2.3 seconds of glory they went by me like I was chained to a post. Oh and met Malcom Smith at the Soboba trail Ride a few years ago. And I shot the shit with J-Law at Elsinore for awhile when a guy went down and they red flagged practice, we wound up siting next to each other on the side of the track. He was totally cool, down to earth and polite, and he went wide when he lapped me, seemed like a great kid.
