I don't know how much more clear this can be.
The second part of the rule clearly says to get the hell out of the way asap and don't impede the race, paraphrased of course.
Stew did nothing wrong officially, quit cherry picking the rules.
That's what I saw. BUT....I also think James hasn't had much experience in situations like this and he isn't like a normal lapper. He has serious speed to run even with the leaders.
If he would of just backed it down for 1-2 seconds......RD and Marv could of just let the cards fall where they may.
my $0.02.
Clearly the intent is to get out of the way before being black flagged. That takes A LOT of blocking usually.
Pit Row
The outcome of the race isn't near as troubling as the deeper meaning here: James relegated to being a lapper who inadvertently affected the outcome of a race, by being in the wrong place at the wrong time! Ouch!
They won't penalize him. He didn't do enough to deserve a black flag. To say his presence had nothing to do with that situation though? Blue flags are a warning. It's up to the rider to assess that warning. If I saw a blue flag going in to the last lap I would want no part of what was coming behind me. Someone can chime in with the "well that's why you're not a pro" bullshit but racecraft is racecraft whether you're pro or not.
For the record it was Marvins fault trying to jump the triple.
Although for the record Stew should have gone out of the way.
Either up or low but not in the middle.
Now...comments about Stew needing to leave the sport, or being unethical are equally moronic. It was an honest mistake / brain fade. I am a huge Stew fan, but this was a big mistake on his part, nothing more. In the big scheme, not that big of a deal. No one got hurt, bummer for MM...but based on what we saw to tonight..MM will win races in the future.
I am sure Jame's ego is bruised. Perhaps this will be some motivation for him to put in the work in the next off season. I would also be surprised if James does not apologize to MM for his mistake.
Weimer pulled over.
Canard pulled over.
Friese pulled over.
James, who was right ahead of Weimer, Canard, and Friese, clearly gets the blue flag, at the earliest, on the 2nd to last lap.
