I'm done with motocross ,what should I do now?

There is a lot of good insight here that is going to be totally wasted on an OP that has his mind already (and possibly temporarily based on the understandable emotions he is feeling) made up about a topic.

Look at all of his responses and how little he is acknowledging the absolute real life gold you old fucks are dishing out.

It's not conjecture, but real actual men who have raced and ridden bikes for a LONG time and are ok, they are fine and they are still doing it. That is what everyone is trying to tell you OP.

Also he is 17 and has a Corvette so he's possibly getting some pussy that he shouldn't be if he had to go out and earn it and I don't have a lot of hope for those kind of kids. Seen it go bad lots of times once they hit college and after.

Life is dangerous man and everyone loses the eternity game. It's how you play. Get in that Corvette and buckle up twice because death is coming for you, motocross rider or not.

You made it sound like you don't want to race moto because you don't want to end up paralyzed. At least that's how I understood it, but fair enough. What makes you think you won't get paralyzed racing cars, or for that matter, just driving in one?

It's a tough situation you are in. I understand the risks, and each of us have to judge our own tolerance for them. And that tolerance changes on a regular basis, so you have to be willing to reevaluate periodically. My suggestion to you, and I have both 15yo and 19yo sons, it to take a step back and envision your future. 10 years, 20 years out. Take the steps now (at 17) to put the foundations in place to support that future. As you head down that path, you will find out what fits and what does not fit with integrity into your plans. But don't forget to live in the moment as you plan for the future. To some degree the risks we take give us life. The art is determining how much it takes to give you the feeling of living. And not all risks have life threatening consequences. There is life outside of moto.

Mountain biking is a GREAT sport!
At this point I enjoy the climbs as much as the fast single track, and moto guys have an advantage.
My mountain bike friends say they can tell who rides MX right away.

If you do ride again, ride within your limits and keep in mind why you're there.

At 53, I ride a 125. I like the way it makes me ride, and it's also setting my own speed limit. I know that if I ride a faster bike, I'll use it. To each his own.

Seriously though, try mountain biking. It's a total blast!

Maybe it's time to focus on your career at this point. I stopped riding when I was 18 to start shooting snowboard videos. I've had the opportunity to travel the world and hang out with friends for the last 10 years doing that. Lucky I've built up my career and now I'm back riding moto.

Anything we do that gives us, "that feeling" is going to be dangerous to degree. I've seen kids get broke off snowboarding, even know people who died, seen someone get paralyzed mountain biking and a friend break his neck diving into a pool. Life is dangerous and the only way to be safe is sitting at home watching TV, but I know I don't want to live my life like that.

There are so many other things in life to enjoy that are safer than MX if that is what you are looking for. Don't be of the mind set that life is MX or nothing. Get out there and try many other things to find out what you like. There are many other ways to get an adrenaline rush, to enjoy being outside, or activities to do with friends and family. You don't have to pick one either, you can do them all! You may find out that you are good at something you've never done before.

- Mountain Biking

- Road Cycling

- Rock Crawling/Four Wheeling

- Hiking/Back packing

- Body Building

- Fishing

- Snowboarding

- Rock climbing

- Buy an old car/truck and restore it

I would take moto over gncc any day. The most scared I have even been on a bike was racing woods. Like someone said previously, trees don't move. Get out of control and hit a tree and you could easily be sitting in a chair next to your buddy.
Anything that gives you a rush is going to be dangerous to a degree. I got sick of moto injuries and took up wakeboarding, my brother bought a stand up jetski. We both say neither give the rush of a bike but the consequences of a normal crash aren't as bad either. But I wakeboard on a river so after a big rain there will be logs floating down the river, some just below the surface. I could very easily land on one of those one day and get messed up. Take some time and let your buddies accident sink in, evaluate and you will pick the decision that's right for you

Ever considered riding a Trials bike? Plenty challenging and you can ride almost anywhere. Sometimes I wonder why Trials riding does not get any more support than it does. Many of today's top hard enduro riders started with Trials.

There is only one hobby I have found over the years that actually put my stomach into my throat and really got my blood pumping. MX is an actual sport that can hurt people , so it's going o be a rush every time you throw a leg over a bike. As far as hobbies go , they don't usually hurt anyone unless you do something stupid. The hobby I found was flying RC. I got into the 35% - 40% 3D type flying and it was a rush. You can put a lot of money , time and effort into a build , and one slight mistake can cost a good couple grand.

I'm actually getting back into it this next spring and summer a little , and then even more the following summer. I love riding , but between that sport and my every day work , my body just doesn't get a chance to catch up and rest very often. did the 1/8th scale buggies in the RC driving stuff for quite a few years too , but that was more just " fun ".....nothing scary about it , and making a mistake usually costs you nothing. I found no thrill in the driving compared to flying. The RC flying on the other hand , is something really cool to spend time in the shop with. Building / slapping together airframes , figuring out your electronics , tuning the motor for the right sized prop ( electric and gas ). BUT.....getting into the larger aircraft can also be dangerous. People get hurt and killed and you have to fly responsibly.

I flew a few different times with Kyle and at the time he was one of the best aerobatic pilot's on the planet. 2nd in the world at the Tucson shootout to a 5 time world champion. I try to emulate his flying and am pretty close to it now days. But the hobby , right now in 3D flight is completely crazy to what Kyle was doing 10yrs ago. Anyways....I always dug this video of Kyle. Wait until about 1:10 in the video and then it gets kinda cool.

The hobby isn't for everyone , and it isn't cheap. But gawd dang is it fun!

Let me say this first I'm 17 years old I'm in 250B and 450B ,I have been racing since I was 5 I'm in no way scared of the bike, I'm not scared to ride either, I broke my neck when I was 14 at a LLAQ , I started racing GNCCs 2 years ago (I was racing woods on the side) I'M NOT GOING BACK TO MX I ALSO DONT CARE IF YOU THINK I'M A PUSSY that being said here's this
one of the guys in my moto crew severed his spinal cord , according to his doctors he will never be able to walk again, when I was growing up my grandpa was completely paralyzed from the waist down and I saw how much of a struggle everyday day things were. Enough about that what should I do now,

I'm thinking of drag racing my corvette on street legal night or racing GNCCs full time ,I don't want to spend the rest of my life in a wheelchair because of something I can do until I'm mabye 45, thanks

Please don't try to push me back into motocross because I'm not going back
till your 45? have you not heard of John Down? hes over 50 and he qualified for a Canadian national last year.

honestly this sounds like your getting scared and making a knee jerk reaction. dont get me wrong do what you think is best for your self but this is the nature of riding a bike. I had a good friend get out of dirtbikes to do MTB because he got hurt. Well he got more hurt riding MTB and actually came back to a dirt bike. and ive known way more people who've been injured or killed in a car accident

if i got hurt the last thing id want is for my friends to stop riding because in that situation, if i wasnt hurt id be riding.

if you dont want to do mx do off road. or keep doing mx. no is forcing you to do what you're uncomfortable

I think OP is gone, but I'll chime in.

I rode dirtbikes as a kid with my brother in Texas. Competitively. A friend of ours was killed doing it, and Mom said "That's it. Sell 'em." so we did.

Horsed around through high school, but missed the dirt. I bought one in college for my bro and I to enjoy and we ended that day in teh hospital with my multiple facial fractures and having to undergo reconstructive surgery. Sold the bike and swore them off.

My brother got cancer in '12, and died in '13 at 34 years old.. 2 weeks after he died, I went and bought a KTM 250EXC. I put my helmet on, did one lap, stopped in the middle of the track and cried and cried. I was so happy to have found JOY again, but damn, I missed my brother.

My mom bitches about me back on bikes, and I just shrug and say "Yeah, I could get hurt. I could also get cancer tomorrow and die." She nods her head, hugs me, and the conversation is over.

Life is dangerous, and none of us make it out alive. I'm not about to head to LL, much less even race, but when I turn laps at the track, there's no other replacement for it and it's something that doesn't scare me anymore, but rather, it reminds me I'm alive. Which is something that can be taken from any of us doing damn near ANYTHING each second.

Enjoy life. I'm 40 today, and intend to ride until I am physically incapable of doing so.
Holy sh*t dude, that right there says it all. Thanks for sharing.

At 17 years old, you shouldn't decide to do anything.
Sure, plan your destination, but not the journey. Learn some productive life skills along the way.

Learn guitar.
Paint.
Vounteer at an animal shelter.
RC cars.
Turn some wrenches.
Co-ed softball.
Learn photography.

My point is, it sound like you want to replace your moto activities with another. That won't happen. What you can do is experience other things outside of moto. As you find new expiriences enjoyable, you will find your answer.

You can get paralyzed at any time doing anything.
This.

My girlfriend has been a T-11 complete paraplegic for the better part of the more than three years we have been together. I've witnessed her ups and downs since the day she went over the bars on her mountain bike.

It's a lot of complicated emotions around my continuing to ride. I've never really been injured, and I won't pretend like I "understand the risk" every time I get on my bike (until it happens to you, you don't understand, IMO). But I take as many precautions as I can and focus on riding in control and "hitting my marks", sort of competing with myself in an effort to improve my precision and technique.

I love cars, and have raced purpose-built autocross racecars, but they don't do it for me like a motorcycle. The man-machine ratio isn't like being on a motorcycle. I always know the limiting factor on my bike is ME, so I don't have to throw a lot of money at the bike to get faster. Car racing is fun, but to me it just isn't worth the expense of chasing horsepower, chassis set up, tires, etc.

For me, I don't want to give up what I love because of what-ifs, only to one day get hurt doing something mundane and regret all those times I was too timid to go out and enjoy being active when I had the chance. Enjoy life while you can, just be smart about it!

And yes, at 17, go try all sorts of stuff. Maybe you find something you enjoy way better than moto. You never know. I'm 25 now, and my interests are quite a bit different than they were when I was 17.

Words to live by from Lynyrd Skynyrd "I've tried everything in my life. The things I liked, I tried twice"

First, take a break. To stay in shape and have a ton of fun, buy yourself a mountain bike. Don't do the downhill bombing stuff that will break your neck just as easy. Then, get yourself a Vintage/Evo bike and ride those tracks. The jumps are dumbed down and it is a lot safer but still fun as hell!
2/19/2016 2:07pm
I've seen people seriously injured at the track, I've seen a guy die at the track. I saw a dead guy on the ski hill this year, during my time as a medic I've seen people dead early doing every day things. Just driving on their commute, work accidents, or people that get sick young and just don't recover... That's life, it's always a risk, so enjoy today.

There is risk/reward activities like mx, where the payback is worth the risk. The only thing I've experienced that trumps racing is being in contact on tour.
There are ways to numb the craving through strenuous activity/sports, mountain biking is one of them for me.
As a vet rider who spent 3 summers broken due to racing, and a spike in injury rates among my friends, I considered giving it up. I sold my street bike, bought an old car that I restored/modified and while it's fun and rips, it ain't the same. I still race, but I've decided to tone it down a bit, ride my pace and enjoy it... And I've been having the most fun I've had on a bike.

There is a personality that is genuinely attracted to this sport (aside from the poser crowd), and there will always be a need for these type of people to push themselves physically in some way, so anything you decide to do to get the fix will have risk involved.

At 17, slow things down, focus on school/career, take that car out and enjoy the girls. By the time you're 25, you will have your career set, some cash flow and then start racing again, you'll also have learned a bit of self preservation which will make you a safer rider.

Where's what I've been spending time doing-

It's hard to replace this-

But after spending a few weeks in the hospital and missing 7 months of work, I'm having a "somewhat" safe/ great time with the cage around me....

But whenI Feel the need for 2 wheels, I get on one of these-

When I'm tired of getting dirty, I take this out and invite as many chicks as possible-

Hope that helps..... Lol

Whenever I'm at a crossroad in my life...I like to go down to my favorite opium den in Garden Grove and play Russian roulette with the old Asian guys. When you leave 4 days later, you have a fresh new outlook on life.
