Paid $9500 over here in Aus, so would assume it should be considerably cheaper over there. A yami/ktm sets you back around $11500 here atm.

...I was quoted $10,902 OTD in at a unnamed full line dealer in the Inland Empire in October.

I politely declined.

I can afford it but principle prevents me from paying that much for a damn Kawasaki. Looks like I stick with my 2013 for another year, or look into getting back to basics with a two stroke 250.

$8400 OTD here in Alabama. $1300 cheaper than a 16' KTM 450SXF.

Back in October, 8,900 OTD from the Sac area. Probably a little less by now.

Thanks for the info guys. Not that I can't afford it, but I refuse to pay $8000 for a bike. That just seems insane to me. It'll be a couple months at least before I get to ride so I'll probably hold off until then in hopes of a good rebate.

I'm looking for a new Kaw 450. 15 leftover or a current 16. I've been making calls yesterday and today. Called a dealer in WV (I live in OH) and I was quoted 7399 otd. Cash.

Maybe I'll call up some shops in the CA.

I always wonder how you figure any import tax or how you do that.

You got that right. We have a couple '15 450's for $7699 CAN. That's $5531 US dollars with today exchange rate. Unfortunately I don't think we are allowed to sell into the US.

If I happened to buy one to use when I was in Ccanada and then drove it across the border what would happen?

We bought bikes in CanadA many times, and saved a bunch thanks to the favorable exchange rate. We would buy in crate, mostly from Honda dealer in Ont. We got great deals, buy 3 or 4 cr's at a clip. Now this was before 911 and the unpatriot act, so who knows now.
It used to be we would pay the provincial tax/fee and get refunded on our cc, you just had to stop at border before crossing back to do paper work. It was easy and a lot of fun for us. I imagine it is a nightmare now bringing one back? I bought my RM 250 in B.C. and had them ship it in 2010. I had to hire a border attorney/agent and a shitload of paper work and some dough to import it. So i dont know about nowadays if its worthwhile to buy up north.

Man that would be fun. Save some money, road trip and ride. I would love to do that, but i'm sure the bullshit would suck any savings and fun right out of it.

Cheapest I can find is $7000 otd right now for a 15. Havent called tri county yet though. Get ahold of me if you can find a 15 450 for 6300 otd. I'll buy it tomorrow. I sold mine monday.

The 16 retails for 9599 CAD, or 6950 USD. I'm sure you could knock off close to a grand on MSRP, bringing it down to around 6300 USD.

Consider spending the extra money for the 16. It's a significantly better bike. The time to steal a leftover is when the model hasn't changed much. If you have a firm budget, I would just wait till mid summer and steal a 16 when the 17's hit the floor since it will likely be the same bike with minor tweaks.

I agree it is a fair price but I refuse to pay that much for a bike. If people quit paying $9500, maybe they wouldn't sell them for so much in the first place. Rebates will be out by May if it's like any other year with Kawi. I'll just grab one then.

You did get hosed. Another dealer offered me one for $4700, with a leftover '15 250F for an extra $3300 but it was like 2 hours away so I bought local.

Did you ever look into this? I'm looking for a 16, best price right now is about 7200 OTD cash, out of state no sales tax. Im from NY, and saw a dealer up in Ontario (3 hour drive or so) advertising on US craigslist 16 kx450's for 6650 US. Thats like almost retail in CA dollar terms with the exchange rate but I could care less because its a good US $ price.

Two things that kind of seem like they'll be an issue:
-I'll have to pay some sort of tax when i take it back into the US. Even if its just 8% NY sales tax then im right back in the same boat as buying one here in the states and avoiding the sales tax by buying out of state.
-Contingency probably wont work if you buy in CA and import to US.

A dealer in NY used to turn canadian buyers away all the time because they couldnt sell to somebody with a Canadian address. I have a feeling its the same situation in canada. Most likely to help dealers service there area and not steal business from other areas.

The 16 250f's have some MONSTER rebates on them right now, For shits and giggles I got a quote on one and was told 5700 OTD cash no sales tax (out of state buyer). The 450 was 7200. I'm willing to bet that the 450 will pick up some more incentives in march. Usualy march and april have the same incentives and they're huge.
