I guess we should ban 4 strokes, long travel suspension, engine mods, knobby tires etc etc because everyone has them so it will take skill and technique again. Wink

Holeshot devices, Front and/or Rear, ARE an "Equalizer".

Make the teams run standardized ECU's to accomplish the "level playing field" that you're implying.

I'm beginning to think people drink more during Silly Season.

I remember hearing how that Boyesen link bike design eliminated chain torque. The bike didn't squat down on starts. It was said to be like cheating how it launched off the gate.

I'm in favor of banning them but only to keep the speed into the first corner down, a better launch and transition = faster to the first corner = more carnage.

TFS always said follow the money. There is lots to be made from the devices, they won't go away anymore than after market exhaust or triple clamps.

This is how I see it. Banning them may reduce speeds a couple of mph going into the first corner. Those couple of mph might be the difference between a rider brushing off a crash or being out for 3 months. I would rather see my fav rider on track, not in the booth.
Because the difference between 45 and 40 MPH is really going to make a difference....

As an equalizer for riders of different height, I don't see it as an issue. At the pro level (where everyone is equally equipped), I also think it's not a big deal.

I'd suggest that electronics (and electronics tuning) are probably a bigger issue on starts than start devices. That's also a much larger can of worms.
Ha, you said "where everyone is equally equipped" Grinning

Are all the pros still running the holeshot device in the back too?

The follow the money comment wasn't a dig at anyone, I'm just saying it's something that is a revenue builder, the people selling them will lobby for them to stay.

I have no data saying it's safer or more dangerous, I just think more guy's going faster into the first corner could possibly be more dangerous.

There is no advantage if everyone has them, the only variation now is down to reaction time and whatever minute differences there are in traction. So all they do is increase the speeds to the first turn.

It's literally hold it matted and drop the clutch. And with these rear devices too there are no worries about wheelies etc... WTF is the point?!

No shit, Vital's default solution to any "problem" it perceives is to simply ban the thing.

I'd love to see some of you jump on Barcia's bike and pull a holeshot in a pro race because "it takes no skill now"

At 130 lbs I'll be pulling holeshots on that bike all day long. And by turn 2 I'll be pulling up the rear lol

What benefit do they pose if everyone has them!?! Someone? Anyone? You can say it's retarded to ban it but what's the justification for them with no benefit...

Like it or not, it was harder to get good consistent starts without them, let alone efi start modes etc...

I agree wholeheartedly on the start device issue but it's like many other things of the last 10+ years that it been introducing the motocross market it seems that bike to become easier to ride fasten ever almost the fact that someone with a much lesser skill can still go a lot faster than they should be going know I'm no pro but this is with regard to how many boys are seen be riddled with injuries just from going faster than they should've been and I'm not going to go off on a rant but I think for strokes and fuel injection have made riders a lot lazier the one thing I really like about two strokes and I will stand alone on this because I'm not gonna tell you that I am in all world heating for stroke die but I do love my two strokes and will continue riding strictly 2 strokes only one thing I love about the 2 stroke is that isn't only allows you to go as fast as your talent will allow you to go, you can't override a two-stroke unless it's a 500 lol that's what I like about them it takes skill it's a constant challenge when I get on a four stroke especially a 450 I'm bored within a couple laps there's no excitement no skill or talent to finesse the bike you just pointed and get gas and it goes it goes with out any effort and I find myself taking my mind off the riding while in the saddle more because it's become almost like a riding a sportbike feel on a 4 stroke when on the track

To me, it's a shame that the art of a well executed start is reduced to this. I was always amazed at the control and technique top pros showed on their starts. Oh well, at least 99% of the race after the start still requires insane skill.
