Suspension shops are only as good as the information you give them. Which ever one you choose be honest with your ability.

So... If you weigh 250 pounds and are a D rider, don't tell them that you are 160 pound AMA Pro?

Factory Connection is opening up shop in Florida – hey did I say that out loud… might be a good option when they are going to be there soon...

I'm sure your results will be simaler at both shops. They both have race teams at factory level and both have been around forever. the advantage of FC is they have more locations around the US, they most likley worked with more customers at different skill levels and on different types of terrain.

I'm a FC guy myself...

I have FC and it's the best stuff I've ever ridden. That being said, I haven't ridden PC stuff.

My Rm125 had PC suspension when I bought it in a box. As I restored it, when I got to the suspension, it was dog tired. I live in Florida, so I sent it the nearest FC shop, since they were closer to me. When they got it from me, we talked and after inspection, told me to just rebuild it, as the PC valving was pretty good for my specs, and save my money. Two things from that, is if it's calving is right, it doesn't matter who's doing it, and that FC values PC'S work. That's pretty honest in my book. I'll be having them do my RM500AF as well. Cool

Two sides to this. I have always found PC to be a little harder to get them to be more personal with their service, but they were always close to the mark on valving.

Not knocking PC in any way, but if you are going to be in Florida, you might want someone who is out at your local track on a fairly regular basis. Most smaller shops will watch you ride for a couple laps and help you with small adjustments like oil, clickers, sag, etc..

Just my opinion though... RG3 always did my stuff, and would always help out at the track when they had a van there..

i have had many bikes with factory connection suspension and one with pc suspension....pc is way better imo.....fc tends to valve the rebound control out and make the suspension very soft and move a lot...under a lot of conditions that works good but in others it doesn't....I sent my sons suspension to them twice , 13 crf 250r, and it still wasn't right....Graeme brough does some of the best work in the business....I have recently used a local shop to me, n2dirt, and he did a good job on my 2013 kx450f.....

I have had a whole bunch of different companies do my suspension over the years, including me! Nowadays, I like to go with who I see at my local tracks. That way I get it just right, not always the first time mind you. Also as time goes on, my weight might change, and my skill level. Then I can say the valving needs changed as they are changing the oil, at way less cost!

Just curious, how many of you install the correct springs for your weight, tinker with oil height and clickers, etc before sending it off to these companies for a $700 shim swap?

I don't even understand why you'd let anyone mess with what the engineers designed from the factory. I mean it's a motorcycle, you just jump on and twist the throttle and the bike does all the work. If something doesn't feel right, just twist the throttle a little harder!

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to go with a local suspension guy who will meet you at a track and help you dial things in?

The vast majority of the time, the best suspension shop is the one you can hop in your truck and drive to or meet at your local track. The after sale support is more important than the initial settings IMO.

After many years of getting to know suspension and how it works I now am more apt to make adjustments like you said before having a revalve done. ...my son's 15 crf250r is stock aside from a rear spring and some oil height adjustments. ...we are able to make it work for him on the motocross track, off road races and he even rides the amateur sx track at milestone on it...all with minor clicker adjustments, air pressures etc....

Everyone always says to be honest about your ability.....

I purchased a legitimate former Pro bike, PC had worked the suspension and it was set for a 160# Pro. I'm 190# and a C rider on a good day, yet this is the best suspension I have ever ridden. Plush, resists bottoming, and can really squat down in the corners (probably because of my extra weight). I don't know why it works...but it does. Never used PC or FC in the past but I'm impressed with PC.

Been a while, but FC was excellent to work with.

you should get a quote from both and that should help guide your decision. Both are capable of making them work well or ride like crap.

What SPYGUY is saying will be what 90% of riders should do and they will be fine.

I have not used PC since the late 1980s, so I'll stay away from commenting on them. One year ago this month I sent my forks and shock to FC for a complete respring, revalve and rebuild. They did an outstanding job. What they did was not only to make the suspension more "plush" but most importantly (to me), they made it predictable. The YZ250 comes stock with some pretty good suspension, but it was never completely predictable as to how it would behave. I don't know how they do that sort of thing, but I'm grateful. It has saved me from some scary crashes over the past year, and now, landing from big jumps is much easier on my 54-year-old bones.

Eventually, I will send my new 125's suspension to Roth Racing when it needs a rebuild/servicing You can't beat the personal service you get there.

Excellent advice. I had a KX I fiddled with by adding new springs and oil weight and height....I thought it was so so, my buddy with the PC built race bike liked mine better!!
Not bragging, just got kind of lucky....and I'm certainly not bagging on PC!
