I've tried the hard over-the-jersey protectors as well as the soft under-types, and while I look way cooler and I'm 5 seconds a lap faster with the under types, I only wear a hard shell protector now. Every time out.

I don't wear a jersey, but I do run a black chest protector, with some killer spikes.

Damn Skippy I wear a chest protector. IMO I don’t see a reason not to wear one. Besides, in the Ozarks, most tracks have rocks and they hurt! I wonder if the reason most pro’s don’t wear a chest protector is cause it hides sponsor logos on their jersey?

thor sentinel and a leatt, although I have heard good things about the RXR. I'll have to hit up shenzi one of these days and ask him if he has any laying around.

I have always wore one from the mid eighties just learning to ride, currently running an AXO attached to my Leatt.

When I first got a Leatt I was having a hard time with a 661 protector/Leatt and One Industries helmet but after modifying a new AXO/Leatt combo and using a new 661 helmet it all works fine even with my shorty neck...

I have been riding with armor since i was about 9 and at the start of the year added a leatt brace into the mix, and i have had no mobility issues with both items, but i have had mistake and unlucky issues during the year. These photo serve as a example of an unlucky issue were i over jumped a 70 foot step up and cased out on a massive hole that was just after it. I went from about 60 km per hour to about 10 in the spaceof about 0.5 of a second. My chest cracked the bars and left this imprint on my armor. Its hard to notice on the photos but that is really thick plastic and the cracks have gone all the way though so imagen what it might have done to my cheat if i had no armor. Oh and i got out if it, surprised as hell but luckily that was it.

I wear my RXR every time I ride. I wore it when it was 100 plus and stayed cool as a cucumber after soaking my jersey in ice water first.

After I got the air pressure dialed in I am not even aware I have the RXR on.

Yeah I won't ride without my RXR...

Sure maybe they are bulky looking, but I don't care. Instead of sitting on the couch because I have broken ribs, or worse, I'd rather look less in-style and be out riding.

They're just as important to me as helmet now. I'll never go back to plastic. RXR's are made for crashing, as opposed to my chest and back, so it works out nicely. Plus they are comfy. I usually never even think about them until I'm getting up from a flying W and thinking "wow that didn't hurt much."

I just started wearing a chest pro again.Well I will once my leg heals. After a few of my friends had some internal injuries from getting handlebars, etc in the chest I decided to pick up the new Fox one.I took the shoulder pads off and zip tied the front and back to my leatt and it is really comfortable.

I ran it with the backplate before, but for me with the leatt it fits better without it.

twice even when going out to practice. Whats
your guys' thoughts on this?
RXR. The best chest protector on the market. If you don't have one get one.

Always wear one when I ride. I use the TLD Bodyguard and about 2 years ago I was practicing on a little loop near my house and accidentally went wide coming out of a turn and hit a little sapling that was beside the trail. A branch on the tree speared me right in the big TLD logo on the front. It put a hole though the decal (obviously), but the plastic stopped the branch from going all the way through. I was very glad that I was wearing it that day as that branch would have been sticking in my chest!

I also have a Thor Impact Rig (quality is lousy, but that's a different story) that I use for off road and I bounced my shoulder off a tree one time and I had a "dimpled" bruise on my shoulder from the bio-foam. It hurt, but it was kind of cool looking (imagine having about 50 pencil eraser-sized bruises and that's what it looked like).

Like we have always heard, dress for the crash, not the ride.

BTW...as far as influencing younger riders, my boys are 5 and 6 and always see my wearing a chest protector. They were very excited to go to the shop and pick theirs out and in fact, they wore them into Burger King on the way home from the shop because they were digging it so much. It has never been an issue trying to get them to wear one when they ride as they just think that is "normal."

After breaking all the ribs on my left side while wearing my all time favorite chest protector (HRP) I ended up looking for more protection and went with an RXR. I wear the RXR and a leatt everytime I ride. Punctured lungs suck!

Always, and with a Leatt. The last time I didn't wear a chest protector I was in a first turn crash, and fucked up my shoulder. Bothered me for several months, never went to the Doc but my sister (who is a DR...) said I did my rotator cuff...
12/8/2008 2:21pm
Never felt like it slowed me down so I see no reason to not have the added protection even if it doesnt protect you that much.
12/8/2008 2:42pm
We wear them.

I only ride a pitbike, but I don't have a chest protector. I always make my son wear one though.

I always wore either a Thor under jersey protector (the padded t-shirt thing) or an RXR. I never got on the bike without one of those two items.

I quit before the Leatt really caught on, and I have always liked the design of the A-stars brace better than the Leatt. I was sold on the A-stars device the during final practice for the 07 Hangtown National when I watched the thing save Sean Hackley's spine.

Never. I've been racing for 11 years and have never worn one in a race ever. I've never had a crash where it turned out wearing one would have made a difference either (knock wood). I've taken my share of rocks but its really not so bad...
