Great ride, absolutely. And kudos to KTM for properly hooking him up. Their world domination continues.

It's funny, when an American races the GPs and doesn't destroy then every race then GP riders are clearly better. But when a GP rider races an Amercian races and gets top 5ish we are all pumped to see the guy so good haha.

I don't care what series the riders race, or who is faster. I just like watching good racing.

That said, what Shaun did was very impressive, does he have plans to ride a fill US series?

Because RV was supposed to win.
No one expected Simpson to win.

In my book the 450 class is a bit stronger atm. When all guys are healthy tomac is the fastest guy and mxgp is a bit stronger in average.
But like you say, who cares as long as it's good racing. The both series are obviously close enough to provide good racing

Good results today. I am impressed.

He may have been on a "factory" bike. Watching it go through some of the braking and acceleration bumps the bike was rocking all over the place. It needed more time on set up. Shaun did what he did on a less than friendly bike.
Good point, I spoke to his dad today and asked if Shaun was getting on with the new bike?
He replied " it was different ", I didn't think till afterwards , if it was good he would have probably said so, but he couldn't say if it was bad , seeing that KTM were helping him out.
I might be totally wrong though?

I really liked his attitude too.
Came over really humble and respectful, no bold claims or beef.
Said he'd be stoked top 10, or really happy with top 6.

Good shit.

I find it crazy Caroili has never made it out to a race...
Image that dude in for a full season outdoors.

I was really hoping we'd hear from him after the race. I'd be interested in hearing his perspective/opinion on racing here in America.
I can help with that.

What a great week away for Simpson. He gets trip to USA, races Unadilla, factory ride, loads of media attention, new fans. All of that is deserved to.

He had 2-20 minute sessions on Thursday and paractice, today...then he went out and nailed down 2 solid Motos. On a bike that's VERY DIFFERENT and waaaaaay "smaller feeling" than his normal bike.

The dude kicks ass.

Period.

Great ride Shaun and thanks for coming over to race a round in our championship, I was at Lommel last weekend on vacation and your ride on that track was awesome...

New fan here. Shaun rode great. Very impressed. MX is MX. No matter which side of the world they are from. All are badasses in my book. Dirtbikes connects us all. MXGP....AMA. ... Who gives a shit. Those who race know what I'm talking about. Great job Shaun.

When did he get tto the U.S.? It takes a few days to adjust to different time zone. His finish was great for a regular in the Nationals. He killed it today in my opinion.

Man Shaun put in some great moto's today! I predicted a 4th - 7th.....missed it by one spot as he took a 4 - 8 !! That dude just seems cool as hell. I hope we get to see him back here in the future. If he can't nail down a factory ride in the GP's , I'd bet he could get a good ride here in the states if he put in a couple more races. Dudes's got skills!

Here's an interview, audio , with many from today's race afterwards including Simpson Check out @pulpmx's Tweet: https://twitter.com/pulpmx/status/630175409703899137?s=09

Keep in mind had Roczen and CP377 not gone down in the pile up at the start in Moto 1 then Simpson likely would've gotten a similar result in the first Moto, going more like 6-8 than 4-8. Still he did very well and with more time on the bike , adjusting to the time change etc likely then able to pull a straight up 4-4 without the top guys going down early.

For me it only proves that Simpson is better in the sand

RV2 did a 9-8 in his first GP..what does that proves to us?

Btw...Why we never see an American rider in the GP when they have a free weekend?, why didn't we see any of them in Lommel?

New fan here for this statement alone,

"I was going regardless. Everyone knows I like to get stuck in and just get stuff done. I was fully committed to even taking most of a bike in my Ogio bags. A few 9800s just filled up with engines and suspension and just you name it. I was just going to take it over there and just build it up. Rent a station wagon and just throw it on the back there, build something up and just go riding and then do the event out of an Easy Up. Essentially that’s all you need to go motocross racing. Old school just bike, rider, tools, can of fuel, and get the job done really."

Love that attitude

Hope so be good to hear an honest comparison on bikes tracks and race day schedule without anything getting mixed in translation.

Also did he earn himself some cash (would be a welcome bonus)

You ask why didn't we see any Americans come over to Lommel on their wekeend off last week:

Well if u listen to Simpson's audio interview post race :http://www.pulpmx.com/sites/default/files/audio/2015-unadilla-simpson.m…. you'll hear him state that coming to America and racing in an AMA event was a dream come true. Also he said he's bummed to have to fly back home and would like to stay. Also that it was just more fun in general and friendly atmosphere. Wilson even though he was half joking said that Simpson said he was pissed to have to fly home so soon.

Also Simpson stated that his social media has blown up as a result of racing an AMA event. Based on Simpson's New York City pics when he first made it to America last week, he seemed to enjoy the sightseeing, just being in NYC was a nice experience.

So all of the above I don't think translates the same to Lommel. No US guy likely would see his social media blow up for going to MXGP. Did Alessi garner as much attention as Simpson going to America? Granted Alessi has not had a decent US outdoor result in years and is riding horribly I still don't think had be been a top 10 US guy heading for those two MXGP races would he have gotten much attention.

I guess not only motocross racers but folks of all types dream to come to America.

Lastly I'm sure no American pro would travel on an off week to Belgium to get their ass whipped on a mega rough track in Lommel (as that's such a different style track , a one off..) that doesn't quite sound like the enjoyable time that Simpson said he had this weekend.

Simpson did an amazing job. Expected him around 5-6 place.
Wonder if he don't want to race the nationals if he gets a decent ride???
8/9/2015 2:28am
And those guys who are pretending his 4th place proves anything ...

1.37 behind the leader in the second heat was one of his worst results of the season .

so again, don't jump conclusions on one race/one rider

Shaun lived his dream, had fun and did an amzing job.

And ... another big gun from Europa, Tim Gajser wil probably race a few SX next season.

He rode for 4th and 8th , an avg of 6th, so that's right where u expected him.
He rode awesomely for unfamiliar track, time zone, track, country!

Honestly thought after his Lonnel performance that he would do better. Not so much with his results which were solid but with his speed. His average lap time was +-6 seconds slower than RD in the second moto and +- 2 seconds in the first. Its not a knock on his performance, I just expected he would be closer in speed.

Well Lommel and Unadilla are two quite different tracks. I don't think anyone expected him to do as well as he did in Lommel. Im not sure how far of the pace he is on hardpack in GPs but he's not winning those

Lommel is a particularly specialist track though and Simpson has honed his sand riding skills in recent years. With a full strength GP grid Shaun is usually on the cusp of the top ten on a typical track, he's certainly not on Dungeys level and Ryan is probably riding as well as he ever has right now.
