Perhaps if the OP just showed up at his house and banged on the front door he would give him an autograph.

Usually riders treat riders with a little more respect than what Dungee did (if that's how it went down) the kid raced that weekend and obviously would have riders that he looks up to.

No doubt why other riders had no problem giving a fellow rider their autograph.

The guy didn't go to his house and ask, they were at the place that was appropriate to ask, hey if a rider plays the come back later deal, don't be surprised when people come back later.

Personally it is a waste of time to try and get a riders autograph and I wouldn't waste time in my day trying to get one. 30 minutes a day to sign autographs? Tells me they don't really want to do it anyway. It's the guys who carry a pen around with them all day that really are interested in connecting with their fans!

Really? Dude was doing it for his son, most good dads would do the same. Obviously non of the other guys had an issue signing it for the kid....

I`d bet you will never read a story like this about travis pastrana, good or bad day he would go out of his way for 3 seconds. he was the all american mx hero right there
I remember at a supercross when I was new to the sport before practice all the riders were going through the tunnels (spread out, one every 30 seconds or so) EVERY single one of them gave an excuse (rightfully so, they were 5-10 min away from hitting the track) but not Travis. He was more than happy to come sign.

back to their RV etc...
"Stalk" was what you were looking for..

He's not "using" a kid. It's genuinely FOR the kid...

dunge fans are jumping on op.. I'm pretty sure he said dunge said no AFTER the races were over, that's not cool to me.

Yes really...he may have been at the right place at the right time for the others...his story is his version with absolutely no idea what Dungey was doing or headed to at the time...And what he was doing for his son was showing that he is entitled to anything he wants from anybody and when they don't get what they want throw a hissy fit..

We spoke to Dungey at Budds Creek the day before the race and while he didn't stick around to have a 20 minute conversation over a beer, he had no problem coming over and signing a few things and taking a picture with my buddies kid. Must have just caught him on an off day like we all have. All of the riders I talked to at budds the day before the race were awesome. Dungey, Martin, RJ Hampshire, Pourcel, Tim Ferry, and Roczen. Roczen stopped playing a game of washers with his crew to come sign some things.

Congrats to your son for getting first and cool to meet a lot of the riders!

Op, congrats to your son on a good race. You and he spending time together is important. The rest is minor details.
Yeah maybe he has an "angle". Dry
I never met him but most everyone else says Dungey is a class act.

Btw , I'm bummed for the OP's kid. I bet he really wanted to get RD's autograph , but it just seemed the timing was wrong. I don't think it deserves a slam from anyone , nor does RD himself. Just bad timing is all.

Kind of hard to be bummed when as a result of seeking Dungey, he ended up with DeCoster's autograph. The kid probably doesn't realize it, but that autograph trumps all of the others combined.

At the point where he went back while the kid was napping I'm thinking dude! just grab a random poster of the Dunge and squiggle some vague signature on it.

But, but, it's his job to stop whatever he's doing and sign whatever anybody puts in front of him anytime, anywhere. I learned that on Vital.

bummer on the autograph, i'm sure little man was really looking forward to it. but it's not the end of the world, everyone has their bad days and that doesn't sound like Dungey at all. better luck next time.

also great job on the win!

Whether or not you will ever read a story like this about Pastrana or any other rider for that matter doesn't mean that they have never turned down an autograph for a fan or have been short with a fan.

Today's riders are expected to interact with the fans more but that doesn't mean that they shouldn't be able to set on the steps of their hauler doing their own thing or whatever and not be at a fan's beck and call.

Even the photographers and journalists have to learn to read the riders as to when they don't want to be approached and give them their space.

If you ask and they say no it's not necessarily personal.

She didn't get an autograph either.

He gave her a tramp stamp.

I ran into him in front of a hotel in sanfranciscio. Just said yo and that my son and I think he is great. Without asking he got one of his dudes to grab my phone and take pics. Also signed a personalized autograph for my kid. One of his party had a sharpie. Lol.

Now the bummer is 45 min later my galaxy got stolen by some homeless bum. No pictures.

This is truth. And... This experience was not typical of Dungey and he is a human just like everybody else with good days and bad.

Must of been having a bad day. Last year at lakewood, we waited after the motos to get his autograph. We let him do his drug test and debrief with the team. He then went into his rv and came out thirty minutes later and signed autographs. He even gave my son a race winning jersey from the previous week signed.

I know this is gonna kill you, but you are 100% correct. Wink

I know Dungey and if it went down like you said, something was going on and this is not how he usually is. Just explain to junior that things happen and he should continue to look up to Ryan. He is a great person from a great family. It wouldn't surprise me if somehow they reach out to you.

I also don't think you really did anything wrong and sometimes you can get upset when things don't work out. Look how many people yell at policemen and tell them they pay their salary. Stupid thing to say, but that's the way emotions work sometimes.

Glad you had a great weekend, don't let this one little thing ruin your memories.

Congrats on the win.

Even though Dungey has never been a rider we sponsor, he has always been very good to us. I am sure he was just having a bad day.

Typical self absorbed cry baby. Get a life! Leave people the F alone. He's not there for you beckon call. Maybe you should be more worried about teaching your kid there is a time and place for everything. Not just when you think it's the right time, but to respect others.
