1. Most people think the 450 is too much bike indoors, anyway. Putting the premier racers on 250Fs isn't going to hurt their lap times at all.
2. Making the support classes ride 125Ts would give the top amateurs a real reason to develop their skills on one. This means an easier transition to to 250Fs for the young guys.
3. The two classes would sound a lot different and look a lot different because the 125s probably aren't jumping the same obsticles.
4, Taking the top guys off of the 450s will probably make them try the impossible less often (Roczen probably doesn't go for ill-fated jump in Oakland if he is on a 250).
5. Go ahead and keep the outdoor nationals 250F/450F, there is no reason to change the displacements in that series.
6. Hopefully, all of this will keep the top guys healthier all season - and that is the one thing that will make the racing much better.
- more racing from top guys during an evening: scrapping semis and multiple main event races for each venue
2. 25 minute moto for 450f/ 20 minute moto for 250f
3. Limit data that can be collected during practice and races.
Start the SX season two weeks later and still leave a 3-4 week break for Out-Door testing before the MX season commences.
That still leaves 25 weeks of racing action for the year and could leave some time for some big off one event races like the Monster Energy Cup, Red Bull Straight Rhythm and maybe some new races to pop up.
As for the races themselves on a weekly basis, re prep the track before the main events so it looks like it does when the first 250 heat race hits the track! Let the fastest 22 riders start on a groomed track and carve in the lines having the track completely change from lap one to lap 20. - May or may not work, just a thought.
One before the 250 main and one right after.
Start 2 rows, 10 fastest guys in front. I know it's exciting to see 20 bikes start heads up, but that only lasts for 10 seconds. Then it's back to the 2 or 3 guys up front for the most part. I would gladly give up the 20 bike start to see 20 laps of good racing.
I'd like to see all the fast guys up front for once, instead of it all depending on the start. If you don't get a real good start your pretty much f****d in SX!
I think it would be a lot more entertaining and fun to watch instead of the snooze fests we've been seeing. All other forms of racing do some form of this. Reward the fast guys.
A chase would be awesome too, imo.
And bs on the "tradition" crap.
Sports constantly have to evolve or they die out. Hell, even baseball is looking for ways to speed the game up and improve the product. The NFL is always tweeking things to make the game better. Like changing the rules to increase passing. Nascar added the chase. NHL and NBA changed the rules to get rid of grabbing to speed the game up and make it more entertaining. Notice a trend?
All the other suggestions in here are equivalent to a shark tank in the 3rd turn.
I see no reason to give the faster guys
an advantage with better bikes
Factory bikes
/guico/pc bikes.
run stock motors and suspension
would
1 slow things down
2 make it more affordable for every one
3 make it fair
if this happened it wouldn't be a surprise to see a privateer get an occasional win
Pit Row
There are no mulligans in motocross and Supercross.
For the children's sake please make it stop :-)
Keep the Pits open.
Sell better pit shirts, jersey's and hats that match team gear.
Water down a couple of areas.
- After Easter break, the "Finals" (last 5-6 rounds) pay more points (75-100? to the winner). The weighted system provides some excitement heading into the end of the series, even if you have a points run away during the "regular season."
- NO points reset - everybody keeps what they earned the first 2/3 of the season.
- 2-3 points for heat race wins.
- NO throw aways. It makes the points too confusing.
It could work. I love SX, but right now I'm not even all that excited about the rest of the season because it is a foregone conclusion what is going to happen, and that seems to be the case most years. A weighted finals system rewards both consistency in the regular season AND bravado down the stretch.
