Every year one of these threads pop up with rumors of a new Kawi two-stroke, and every year I point it out to Kawi PR guys. They just shake their heads and laugh.

Around here the off road segment is prominent but even in moto KTM is everywhere.

2 strokes are abundant and growing.
Quite a few boutique brands too like Beta Husky etc with 2 strokes.

Lots of Beta 2 strokes.

Its funny how these conversations are so similar to 1970 when Japanese endure bikes were replacing BSA's, Nortons, and such for offroad use. Also, long travel suspension will never catch on since it makes the seats too tall.

If you go to any shop, you'll see offroad motorcycles are not a big deal anymore. Any manufacturer is trying to make money and the sales are for the four wheeled vehicles. What would you do? Spend 10 million developing a 250 two stroke where you might sell 10,000 or spend the same amount on a four wheeled soemthing and sell 100,000?

The races for the two strokes will always be there just as you'll find a race for your old BSA or Norton.

Honestly they could lightly modify the 2007 motor (both cosmetically, and mechanically) for very little money.

Throw it in the kxf250 frame. (most of the engineering is already done)

Make some new graphics.

Make some marketing material, website.

THIS!! I could care less if they made a come back. In fact, I kind of prefer to be the "outsider" for riding one.

KTM updates their bikes.

And every year Yamaha has their two strokes on the showroom floors. Albeit, not as updated but their bikes are bullet proof and are more than 90% of the population could handle.

BUT...the guys saying they love 2Ts aren't purchasing them at the rate they are complaining about them not being in professional racing in the US. Thats what TeamGreen is saying.

All this chatter about them being brought back wouldn't be mindless chatter if everyone went out and bought one.

I wondered how long it would take for you to pick up on it.

I started rotating my avatar pics a few weeks back and decided this one would look good for the next week or so. Cool

I am not going to be buying a new bike of any kind, but I do like watching and listening to two strokes being raced by top level pros.
And BTW, Golden Spectro was always my choice of oils. :-)

Dude, it's more than just hope. KTM is working on an injected 2-stroke engine that is going to be a complete game changer. I heard about it about 10 years ago so it should be coming pretty soon. Also, some dude in Australia put a 500 2-stroke engine into a YZ450F chassis so, like, yeah. I'd start stocking up on pre-mix.... Grinning

I know very few people anymore that talk about buying a new four stroke and even fewer that actually go buy one. Considering how good they were supposed to be for the sport, I'd say they fell a little short themselves.

Honda recently renewed their trademark on the Elsinore name, which we all know was the name of the first 2 stroke MX bikes.

I was thinking the same thing. That was not a 250! Whatever it was, was big.

Just look at the bend on the pipe (looking from front of bike, in front of rider's left leg) = 500

Confirmed.

Problem there is that vital members are only a very small percentage of the consumer market, it will not help the arguement

The reason folks who like 2 strokes don't buy enough of them is because the 2 stroke they already have does the job quite well and is easy to maintain. Why drop 8 grand on a new bike that probably will not drop your lap times one whit?

A four stroke 250 on the other hand, will eat you out of house and home. That's why they sell so well!
