I was in my local KTM dealer a couple of years back. I was talking dirt bikes with the owner for a bit. He said, word for word, "dirt bikes are a dying sport" and he said this with very strong sales numbers of the 200, 250's and 300's on his sales floor. He sees the writing on the wall...
Why are 2 strokes not selling? Maybe a better question is why are 4 strokes selling? 3 reasons: 1) there is still development. Generally, this years bike is better than last years. Better legs, improved geometry, more power, easier starting, yada yada. If you have the money it tough to give up an advantage to your buddy on the line...

The reason folks who like 2 strokes don't buy enough of them is because the 2 stroke they already have does the job quite well and is easy to maintain. Why drop 8 grand on a new bike that probably will not drop your lap times one whit? A four stroke 250 on the other hand, will eat you out...

With 250F lap times being very similar to 450f laptimes it seems pretty clear that a competent bike with 40+ HP in the hands of a skilled pro is going to do well. Two stroke or four. The extra displacement at this level doesn't buy much. That said, a 40+HP (I guess with the factory touch 50 HP) 250F bikes...

Sure would be fun to see Marshall in MEC -- on that bike but with a 380 engine stuck into it!

You posted: you are a fuggin' dumbass sheep that is just pissing your money away riding oversized farting pigs that Honda has brainwashed you into thinking are fun while at the same time reaching into your pocket and stealing money for replacement parts to repair a bike that has been pre-programmed to explode after 15 minutes of use and and...

Why STFU? We just point out to folks that some bikes that cost lots less than others can still do well at the track. THAT IS ALL THIS THREAD IS ABOUT, Why is that such a surprise and, at least to some, such a radical thing to state? The cheaper the entry cost the more folks will partake and the...

Ok, lets take a look see. MSRP from Honda: $8,699 + destination Charge: $310.00: http://powersports.honda.com/2014/crf450r.aspx?cid=main_reprise/google/… Keep it two years. Hope when you try to sell it you don't have this guy for competition, $5000: http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/mcy/3931999253.html so even if you get $2000 off the MSRP (which I admit in these economic times maybe you might so the dealer can move one...

The amateur racing budget 101: 2013 250F: . Buy a bike $8k . Hop up parts to get it to 45HP: $1000 (no, wait that was just the exhaust pipe!). . First rebuild -- roll the dice and wait till the end of the season to do it: $1500 . So the first season costs over $11,000 but you look...

Why? Just because nobody did it before? JR85 did 11th in B class for two reasons: 1) bike development over the past couple of decades has been very slow. Compare that to the '70s where a 3 year old bike would be a severe handicap). 2) Jerry is a very talented and strong rider. Its a combination of both.of these...

Maybe someone could ask Jerry or his dad exactly how much has been spent on that bike in the time they have had it? I for one would be very interested in that number. Oh and how many other engines have blown at Loretta's so far? Are there any? Anyone know? Just wondering.

Gee -- a bearing failure in a near 30 year old bike. What a surprise. I guess I better stay away from two strokes. And they repaired the damage in how much time? For how much money? And then got 9th? Really better stay away from those two strokes...

Let me verify this-- a 1985 bike that probably is worth maybe $900 on craigslist. nets Jerry 9th place out of 41 entries in 250B. A starting gate chock full of modified 250F bikes. Do I have this right? Hats off to Mr Robin and crew! So now, why does anyone want to spend $8k on a 250F when a...
