... the GP promoters should pay him 10X as much. His simple act of racing in that series has lit an American fire of PR for them that they couldn't by with any amount of money. They could spend Millions on traditional advertising and they couldn't begin to touch what RV has done to increase the eyeballs they gained. And most of those eyeballs are in a market (USA) that has traditionally been almost non-existent for them.

Think about this for a second. If I would have told you 2 years ago that about half of the front page posts on this forum would be GP threads and that a simple post showing the upcoming GP track would go 2 pages long in about an hour, you'd mock and point at the idiot. A-fucking-mazing.

Yep. And Supercross almost seems like a side show to the GPs. Right here in the good ole US-VitalMx-A.

That's what happened. They paid him $17 millions.

How much hype was there at A1 and Phoenix compared to Daytona? A lot! Supercross season isn't new anymore. MXGP is.

I don't get excited to watch the race because it's not on TV till afterwards and the broadcast isn't done very well. I get excited to see RV's results and watch the highlights! Supercross is still better for me.

i know he said its his final year of racing, but surely there would be a huge carrot dangelled in front of him at the end of the year to do it all again?

....AND they're paying him to lose so the GPs will look like the premier series. I read it right here on Vital, in the Dumbgeon. lol

I would agree to a point, however I did make a thread a few months ago with a video of RV free riding in the hills.

I'd say not having to pay his way out of big contractual obligations may well come into play too?

RV is certainly bringing a lot of excitement and exposure to the MXGP series but that will all disappear when he retires. Unless another high caliber US champion races that series next year everyone in the US will lose interest and it will be no different than it was last year.

Exactly right. RV is just a band aid for the GP series. And if he beats the field over there, it will very likely be seen as a second tier series. It could hurt as much as it's helping this one season. GP's have sent their best over here, and it took Roczen a couple of years to figure out how to win an outdoor championship that they don't acknowledge overseas.

'GP's have sent their best over here, and it took Roczen a couple of years to figure out how to win an outdoor championship'

The year Roczen won his 250 World title Cairoli won his third 450 World title.

Roczen moving to over to America was the equivalent of Dungey or Canard moving to the GPs after winning their 250 Outdoor titles... but three or four years younger! Pourcel very nearly won four titles in his first two seasons.

I enjoy supercross and American motocross way better that MXGP. I enjoy watching the World Championship, but to me MX Sport blows the FIM out of the water as far as who looks more professional

I have tried to watch both rounds of the MXGP, and each one didn't hold my interest. I'm absolutely interested in how RV does, but that broadcast is kind of lame bro's.

In terms of presentation I think most people would agree with you.

Last time I went to a GP was about 10 years ago in Austria.................pretty dissapointed as a big letdown from the des nations events I'd been to in Europe................and seeing 2 now on TV looks like they have even taken a big step BACKWARDS...........while the US MX nationals have grown substantially in the "professional looking event" department................from what I see on TV not a big motivator to make me want to actually go to one in person............while I believe the US National presentation would entice me to go to one in person...............at least Bernie is smart enough to know presentation is important....Luongo not so much.....

I have to disagree, even without RV there you still have AC vs Paulin vs Desalle. Then next year Herlings will be added to the mix. And in the MX2 class we're about to see the next wonderkid in Davey Pootjes.

I am not saying there aren't great racers there, personally I like the GP's more than our outdoor series but very few American MX fans will follow a foreign series. It would be like having a top Nascar racer going to F1. American fans would follow it but once there was not a Nascar racer in it they would lose interest. The quality of racers and type of racing doesn't really matter it's the connection and familiarity to the races / racers that does.

GP racing doesn't need RV, they have 4 times the spectators at races then any national. They had 100k + fans show up at a MXoN race and their TV viewership kills us.

Soo.....you have all the stats on this? Those attendance numbers were heavily padded. Big crowds at each series.....but you are saying they just completely blow away the AMA in attendance numbers? Hmm? Also the MXoN's......We race that too , so what is your point?
3/10/2015 9:07am
Attendance numbers are over the entire weekend, remember the GP's are two days of full racing.
